Lost World OfThe MayansGuatemala, Mexico, honduras &Belize
ElderTreks’ 20 day journey to the Lost World of the Mayans is probably the most exhilarating Mayan trip you will ever encounter. This fantastic adventure includes the great Mayan cities of Tikal (Guatemala), Copan (Honduras), Caracol or Xunantunich (Belize), Palenque, Uxmal, Chichen Itza and Tulum (Mexico). We also journey to seldom visited Calakmul, Tikal’s great rival. We also explore remote Yaxchilan, accessible only by boat before crossing the border into Guatemala. Visit Quirigua, the site which includes the Stelae with its Mayan calendar referring to in the “end of the world” predictions for Dec 21, 2012. The demise of the Mayan civilization - the end of the world as foretold in the astrology and beliefs of the Mayan, have long created intrigue and mystery.
Our Central American journey includes so much more than Mayan ruins. We explore lagoons and rivers teeming with birds as well as monkeys, crocodiles, turtles and much more. Experience the Caribbean culture of Livingston and the traditional indigenous cultures of Lake Atitlan and Chichicastenango, featuring its vibrant and colorful market held on Thursdays and Sundays. And, we cannot forget about the colonial gems of Merida, with the oldest cathedral in the Americas, the seaside fortress of Campeche, Lake Atitlan, surrounded by 3 volcanoes and finally Antigua, a true colonial masterpiece! We hope you can join ElderTreks’ unique journey to the Mayan world that promises to be nothing short of memorable.

Ometepe Island
EL Salvador & Nicaragua
Come and visit 2 of Central America’s least visited countries. El Salvador and Nicaragua!
In El Salvador, visit the ancient Mayan sites of Joya de Ceren, Tazumal and San Andreas. Enjoy the relaxing pace of the indigenous colonial towns, coffee plantations and markets of Ruta de Las Flores (Flower Route). Visit a turtle sanctuary and help to tag resident turtles. Enjoy a scenic flight over active San Miguel volcano enroute to remote Perquin, the former mountain headquarters of the communist guerrillas during the Civil War. We will learn about what really happened including shameful government massacres of civilians. You will meet our local guide, a former communist guerrilla at the age of 10. His story is sad, shocking and yet inspiring!
We leave El Salvador by private ferry to Nicaragua.
Our first 4 nights are shared between 2 of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Americas; Leon (the oldest city in America, est. 1525) and Granada. We visit Masaya Volcano and market and enjoy local cuisine during a cooking lesson. Enjoy time on Omotepe island, formed by 2 volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua. We visit pre-Colombian petroglyphs, a butterfly farm and a local church that has its own ‘indigenous Jesus’. On the Pacific coast, we visit a turtle sanctuary which has several major turtle migrations to lay eggs between July and January each year. If we visit during a major migration, the site is truly magnificent! If the beach has no turtles, we can learn about the turtles and go for a swim at this pristine white sand beach. Always keep an eye out for monkeys! Our last stop is the capital of Managua, where we enjoy a city tour and our farewell dinner.

Exchange a curious glance with a blue-footed boobie, admire stunning tri-colored marine iguanas and watch the ever-playful sea lions frolic in the surf. The non-preditorial environment of Darwin’s Galapagos has created a non-threatening, relaxed and magical connection with wildlife unlike any other on earth.
Our 11-day Galapagos adventure starts and finishes in the colonial capital of Quito, nestled in the Andes. Enjoy a scenic city tour, taking in the sites and sounds and admiring the colonial architecture. The short flight to Baltra delivers us to our comfortable yacht. Watch for dolphins riding the bow, like oceanic messengers taking
us to our next equatorial volcanic island, each with its unique endemic species perfectly adapted to its environment. Pink flamingos, Galapagos penguins, giant tortoises and a myriad of birdlife, including the fish-stealing frigate and the enormous albatross, are just some of the wildlife we encounter during our naturalist guided adventure.
Cool off with a refreshing swim or snorkel with stingrays and view the fantastic underwater world of sea turtles, dolphins, fluorescent tropical fish and colorful coral gardens, before departing for your next evolutionary marvel.

Machu Picchu
Discover breathtaking Machu Picchu, relax in the tranquillity of Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca and discover wildlife in the dense Amazonian jungle. From the Andes to the Amazon, experience diverse culture, rugged geography and rich history on this 20-day journey through Peru and Bolivia.
Beginning in La Paz, Bolivia, visit the Murillo Museum to learn about local customs and explore the market district for some unique finds. Next we visit the Uyuni Salt Flats before traveling across the 12,500-foot high Altiplano mountain range. Take in spectacular views of the Royal Cordillera peaks before boarding a small vessel to cross a narrow strait to the rugged Copacabana Peninsula.
On Taquile Island, explore hilltop shrines and commune with the Taquile Indians who invite us into their homes for an overnight stay. Explore the old streets of Cuzco,
bordered by Incan-era stone walls — the ruins of former palaces. Travel by train down the gorge of the roaring Urubamba River to Machu Picchu — the famous “Lost City Of The Incas” and a phenomenal archeological site. For the more adventurous, hike the steep trail up Huayna Picchu for a spectacular view over the ruins. Take a mountain flight over the Andes to Puerto Maldonado and canoe up the Tambopata River to our Amazon rainforest lodge.
Fly from the Amazon to Lima and continue along the coast to the Paracas Peninsula, where we board a boat that takes us to the volcanic island of Ballestas. The island is home to a wildlife refuge of sea lions, Inca terns, Humboldt penguins and large flocks of gannets and pelicans.
Board a plane for a 90-minute flight over the Nazca Lines — a remnant of the civilizations that prospered along the Pacific coast before the arrival of the Europeans.

ElderTreks’ 21 day adventure takes you from the Colonial gems of the Andes to the lush untamed jungle of the Amazon to pristine coastal regions. In the Amazon, enjoy the exotic wildlife including a plethora of birdlife, primates, caimen, and of course, keeping an eye out for grey and pink dolphins.
A trip to Colombia would not be complete without a visit to a coffee plantation and hacienda. Savour the beautiful surroundings of Pereira, one of the premier coffee regions in the world. Enjoy a day of hiking (or optional horseback riding) in the spectacular Cocora Valley. Visit a traditional
Andean market in Silvia, and be impressed by superb sites and colonial architecture in the Andean towns of Villa de Leyva, Bogota (including the Gold museum), Popoyan and Barichara. The crown jewel is Cartagena on the coast which is arguably the most beautiful colonial city in the Americas.

haida GwaII
This natural history sailing trip explores the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, in the southern islands of Haida Gwaii. These islands form a unique archipelago situated (50 miles/80 kilometers) west of Prince Rupert on British Columbia’s Northwest coast. Often referred to as Canada’s own ‘Galapagos’, the islands of Haida Gwaii have a unique vegetation, wildlife and cultural history that has evolved in relative isolation over the last several thousand years.
Evidence suggests that parts of the islands remained unglaciated during the last 10,000 years, offering refuge for animals and plants. The area is geologically active and has seen massive fluctuations in sea level. The islands are the epicenter of Haida culture and SGang Gwaay has been honored with a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During this
spectacular adventure you will have the opportunity to visit sacred sites, feel the solitude of the wilderness, and experience the wildlife and Haida culture.
The SV Bluewater
The SV Bluewater is a brand new, custom 82-foot ketch, launching in 2017.
The boat’s design, safety and comfort make it particularly well-suited for providing wildlife and wilderness trips for 12-14 guests. It features 8 private cabins (double occupancy), 6 larger upper cabins and 2 lower berths - each with their own ensuite bathroom - a large comfortable lounge with an extensive library, and a well-equipped galley.

Choose the hikes which match your ability, from easy to challenging.
heli-hiking in the Canadian rockies
Imagine hiking in a pristine area surrounded by stunning and surreal landscapes in the Canadian Rockies. Your accommodation is in comfortable lodges. Your guides are fully certified, professional mountain guides with years of training and experience. YOU choose how rigorous or how relaxing your day will be. And the final touch...you are delivered and picked up from this magical wilderness by helicopter. The scenery, the service, the experience does not get any better. Welcome to heli-hiking.
We are offering a superb 7-day heli-hiking journey in the Columbia Mountain Range. Located on the western side of the great swash of the Rocky Mountain Trench, the Columbia’s are technically not part of the Rockies, but run parallel to it and are a stunning and little-known collection of peaks and ranges.
Older than the Rockies by a couple of hundred million years, comparable to them in height and fully their equal in majesty, the Columbia Range attracts only a tiny fraction of the Rockies visitors. Why? A simple reason: it’s very hard to get to. Only the most inspired, experienced and stubborn backpackers are able to bushwhack their way to the dazzling heights, which we attain with ease, thanks to our helicopters. No trails, no campgrounds, no pre-packaged view spots. Expect to
encounter no one else, as you are simply that remote, making it almost impossible for anyone to get to the places our helicopter takes us to.
A typical day of heli-hiking: After a great sleep and hearty breakfast, our helicopter delivers us to one of several possible starting points. We set out hiking and exploring, always at a comfortable pace, with long or short, strenuous or leisurely hikes to choose from. Our guests, not our guides, set the pace. Our guides are in constant communication with the lodge’s helicopter, so we may take two or three different hikes during the day. Our golden rule is flexibility and adaptability.
Each day we immerse ourselves into a different terrains, which could include being dropped in a meadow beneath a stupendous glacial cirque for a morning hike followed by a picnic lunch. With the help of our helicopter, we begin our traverse around a cobalt lake, all the time soaking in the mountain beauty and solitude. In the late afternoon, we fly back to the lodge for a massage, an outdoor hot tub soak or a sauna, a well earned, beautifully prepared dinner, and some story swapping while sipping wine by the fireplace in our comfortable lodge.
We hope you can join us and enjoy the magic that is heli-hiking.

Circumnavigation of Newfoundland
This summer sailing is ideally timed for viewing whales, icebergs, and breeding seabirds. At Gros Morne, the planet’s mantle frames fjords that would be at home in Norway; on the Avalon Peninsula, a chunk of what was once Africa meets remnants of the Appalachian Mountains. We will visit Red Bay UNESCO World Heritage Site, learn about the Viking history in North America at L’Anse aux Meadows, and enjoy a taste of the Mi’kmaq culture in Conne River.
Starting and ending in historic St. John’s, we experi-ence Newfoundland’s lively culture and dramatic scenery in daily expedition stops. A visit to the French island of Saint-Pierre completes the adventure. The welcome we receive in Newfoundland’s outport com-munities is warm and genuine; the music and stories unforgettable. Experience the province’s legendary music, food, and hospitality the way it was meant to be experienced—by sea.
