1 General instructions
The instructions in this user manual must be carefully followed and adhered to. All those involved in the
installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the product must have read and understood this user
manual.
We reserve the right to make technical changes to the illustrations and details in the user manual in order
to improve the storage system.
NOTE
The user must assemble and commission the hazardous materials depot.
The national guidelines and safety regulations with respect to hazardous materials,
safety regulations, occupational safety and operator duties must be observed.
1.1 Approved use
The Cubos hazardous materials depot is suitable for the indoor and outdoor storage of water-polluting
substances of all water pollutant classes WGK 1-3 in accordance with WHG / VAUwS and for the passive
storage of flammable, highly flammable and extremely flammable liquids in classes H224, H225 and H226.
The Cubos hazardous materials depot should be used exclusively within the performance parameters
listed in section 4 "Technical data".
NOTE
Permitted ambient temperature range: -20°C to +40°C.
Offshore or severe use is not permitted (Definition in accordance with EN 1127-
2 "Mining").
The resistance of the sump material to the storage medium must be
demonstrated (in accordance with DIN 6601:2007-04)
Containers must comply with guidelines for the transport of hazardous goods.
NOTE
The ignition temperature of the stored substance must be higher than 135°C
(temperature class T4).
The hazardous materials depot is suitable for Zone 2, indoors and outdoors.
1.1.1 Permitted storage
Storage volume: The sump should be used exclusively within the performance parameters listed in section
4 "Technical Data". If this product is used in a water protection area the relevant state building regulations
must be observed.

NOTE
The safety instructions in the safety data sheet for the stored substance must be
observed.
NOTE
Containers must be earthed separately if they are stored on a wooden pallet or other
insulating material.
Only metal or anti-static plastic canisters may be stored.
1.1.2 Prohibited storage
The storage of gasses, powders, pressurised gas cylinders, peroxides, chemically unstable
substances and explosives is not permitted.
NOTE
The active storage of flammable, highly flammable and extremely flammable liquids
in classes H224, H225 and H226 is not permitted in the hazardous materials depot.
Storage on plastic pallets is not permitted.
1.2 Misuse
The following are considered as misuse:
Storage of inadmissible materials: The resistance of the sump material to the storage medium must
be demonstrated (in accordance with DIN 6601:2007-04)
Use of the sump for purposes other than those specified in section 1.1 Approved use .
Storage of inadmissible containers: Containers must comply with the guidelines for the transport of
hazardous goods.
Unapproved combinations: Media which can react with one another may not be stored above the
same sump.
Exceeding storage quantity and load capacity.
1.3 Claims for defects and liability
We are not liable for claims for defects, damage or injury to persons or property caused by one or more of
the following:
Improper use of the equipment.
Incorrect installation, operation and maintenance.
Unapproved modifications.

2 Safety instructions
WARNING
Refrain from any unsafe working practices.
Observe the applicable rules for health and safety at work.
No fire, naked flames or smoking.
Packaging and containers must meet the transport regulations.
NOTE
If flammable substances are to be stored, the user must prepare an explosion
protection document, to set out the measures to be taken to prevent hazards in
accordance with ATEX guidelines.
When storing flammable substances a safety distance of at least 5m must be
observed to nearby buildings etc. (see TRGS 510).
CAUTION
There is a risk of crushing when closing the doors and the cover.
Keep the doors closed; otherwise there is a risk of crushing if the wind blows the
doors shut.
NOTE
If the sump is damaged, the stored goods must immediately be taken out and the
depot removed from service until the damage is repaired.
Only store materials to which the sump is resistant.
Do not exceed the load capacity of the sump.
Store materials so that all containers and the sump are visible.
Any build up of snow on the cover must be removed immediately.
The storage system must be secured to the floor.
Do not cover the natural ventilation openings.

3 Transport, placement and installation
3.1 Transport
Transport the depot only when empty.
The depot is accessible with a forklift or pallet truck from the front and the rear.
3.2 Set-up conditions
The depot must only be assembled on even, level, paved surfaces. Foundations are not required. The
depot is suitable for installation outdoors or indoors. The recommendations of TRGS 510, 4.2 should be
observed when setting up the depot. The depot must be protected from damage by vehicles using
appropriate means (e.g. impact protection barriers).
3.3 Installation and placement
The Cubos hazardous materials depot should be set up at the desired location, ensuring it is horizontal.
When correctly installed, the double wing doors should be able to be easily opened and then closed
and locked.
NOTE
The depot must be anchored to the floor.
NOTE
If flammable fluids are to be stored, the depot must not be located in direct sunlight.
3.3.1 Floor anchoring
The depot comes with a mounting kit consisting of four heavy duty M10 anchors.
To help with positioning the anchors, in each corner of the base there is an ø17mm hole (see Fig. 3.3.2-
1).
1. Drill the holes (ø15mm, 95mm deep) for the ground anchors supplied.
2. Clean the holes.
3. Fit the ground anchors in the holes.
4. Tighten the screws to a torque of Tinst = 50 Nm.

NOTE
Do not leave the anchor packaging in the depot.
NOTE
Ensure you are not working in an Ex-Zone (indoors or outdoors) when fitting the
mountings.
3.3.2 Fitting equipotential bonding
The depot is supplied ready for equipotential bonding to be fitted. At the bottom at the side there is a
threaded bolt with nuts and washers. Connect the earthing cable here (see Fig.3.3-1). Check that
dissipation is effective.
NOTE
The equipotential bonding connection to earth must be carried out by the customer
before commissioning. Use only suitable materials.
The operator must check that dissipation is effective.
The operator is responsible for ensuring lightning protection.

4 Technical data
The depot consists of a body with double wing doors, a fixed or opening cover with damper and an in-built
sump. The sump is tested in accordance with StawaR. All parts are made in sheet steel. The double wing
doors can be locked. The depot is supplied ready for anchoring to the floor and connection to an
equipotential bond. The depot is available as either galvanised or painted.

5 Operation
5.1 Safety instructions
WARNING
Note safety regulations!
The safety instructions in section 2 "Safety instructions“ must be observed.
5.2 Using the depot
Unlock the door lock using the key supplied and unbolt the doors by turning the handle downwards
through 90°.
Open the depot doors.
Open the depot cover (Versions L-2.2, L-4.2 and L-4.4 only).
Use suitable equipment to help load the depot with containers.
Check containers are stable after setting them down.
When filling, the handling area must be over the sump, dispensing containers must not extend
over the edge of the sump.
After loading, carefully close the cover first (Versions L-2.2, L-4.2 and L-4.4 only) and then the
doors.
Bolt the depot by turning the handle back to the horizontal position.
Lock the depot and secure from unauthorised access.
NOTE
Close the doors carefully - do not slam them.

6 Accessories
There are many accessories available for the hazardous materials depot.
6.1 Shelving (optional)
In order to provide storage space for small containers the hazardous materials depot can be fitted with
shelving. (Only possible for types with a hinged cover).

NOTE
Ensure you are not working in an Ex-Zone (indoors or outdoors) when carrying out
maintenance work.
6.2 Earthing clamp (optional)
NOTE
Earthing clamps are available to avoid the risk of
explosion through a build up of sparks or
electrostatic charge.
The earthing clamp instructions for use must be
observed.

6.3 Pump (optional)
NOTE
The pump may not be used in the Cubos depot with flammable liquids, only passive
storage is permitted.
The pump instructions for use must be observed.
7 Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance and care will extend the life of the Depot. The depot must be empty before any
maintenance is carried out.
NOTE
Ensure you are not working in an Ex-Zone (indoors or outdoors) when carrying out
maintenance work.
NOTE
Keep the sump dry and free from contamination.
Check the sump regularly for leaked fluids, and check underneath too.
Safely dispose of leaked fluids immediately.
Lubricate the lock with commercially available grease.
Check and if necessary tighten the floor mounting bolts.
Check the operation of the gas strut: When lifting the cover the gas strut should act
as a support and then hold the cover in the open position by itself. The gas strut
should not tilt or stick.
If a new gas strut is fitted ensure correction positioning.
Only use manufacturer's original replacement parts.
8 Disposal
NOTE
Before disposal clean the sump thoroughly to remove any hazardous material
residue.
The Cubos hazardous materials depot is mainly constructed from metal parts. After decommissioning,
follow local legislation when disposing of any waste.
