What’s Going On In… CUBS CORNER NOVEMBER 2018 Ms. Taylor’s Room Cael and Jeremy Cub Reporters, Cael and Jeremy were fortunate enough to be able to spend three hours and fifty minutes in Ms. Taylor’s grade one classroom. When they arrived, at 11:20 AM, Ms. Taylor’s class was doing reading time on the carpet. Reading time was when they all gathered around Ms. Taylor and she read a book about animals in the war. The kids were very curious about what she read and asked some questions. Next up was the 50 th day booklet! Cub Reporters Cael and Jeremy didn’t even know it was the 50 th day! Some of the activities were coloring and counting by tens like ten shapes, ten names of classmates, and 10 number words. All that hard work made the kids hungry and lucky for them it was lunch time! The cub reporters got to eat lunch with them and go play outside during their break. They played chase games and enjoyed the fresh breezy air. After recess, the kids got settled in and started to do an activity where they got a number and had to add or subtract to try and make that number. They were working so hard that Ms. Taylor gave them fun free time before recess. Some kids played with plastic fruits. Some kids played with Lego blocks and Reporters Jeremy and Cael got to build a castle out of Playmobil. Before they knew it, it was recess time! After recess, they had another story time and their snack. The reporters thought this was a nice way to relax after recess. After snack and story it was time for Buddies with Mrs. Farquhar’s grade four class. The grade ones chose a book from their bins and they read quietly with their buddies. Reporters Cael and Jeremy got to read with one kid and it was great! Before they knew it, it was home time! Cael and Jeremy were impressed with their day in grade one. They thought Ms. Taylor’s class was an awesome hard-working class! Peace: When you think about peace what do you think of? Do you think about children playing nicely on the playground? Do you think about a family having a lovely dinner together? In Canada, we are fortunate because we have less crime than other countries. We can walk safely around town and to school. When we’re with people our age, we know that they are not going to harm us or hurt us. On Remembrance Day we take a two minute moment of silence to thank and remember our soldiers who died for the peace we can have today.

M u s i c i a n s o f t h e M o n t hDezarae and KairiEveryone loves bacon! In this book, Bacon is very self-centered. He doesn’t care about any of his other breakfast friends back at his home. Bacon got lots of attention wherever he goes. Everyone loves bacon except one person. Bacon was very funny and charming. He played the ukulele. He was becoming a real celebrity! Bacon felt like he was on top of the world. Bacon even smelled good! Bacon did not care about other breakfast meat…until something tragic happened! To find out what happens to bacon, read the book Everyone Loves Bacon by Kelly DiPucchio. I give this book a 5-star rating. It is good for ages 1 and up. The Amulet book series is a very interesting graphic novel series. It is full of mystery and adventure where the main character, Emily, goes on a very exciting journey. She meets brand new friends and enemies along the way! The first book starts out very tragic when something terrible happens. There are eight books in the series so far and they only get more interesting the more you read into the series. I suggest this book. You can find this series in our school library. Some of the copies in our school library are a little run down but still a fantastic read –you can tell they are well-loved. I would recommend this book to ages 8-13 years old. I give it a 4 star rating.
AowynCongrats to Arvey DeGuzan and Rueben Dyck on being our musicians of the month. Arvey is in grade four, lives in town and absolutely loves music. He loves to sing and play instruments. Rueben is grade five, takes piano lessons and wants to play the tuba.

Tempting Whip Cream Topping
Christmas is coming up and you need a topping for all your pies and baking! To make a “Tempting Whip Cream Topping” follow the instructions below. What you need is: whipping cream, a spoon, white sugar, beaters and a bowl. First, you need to add 2 cups of whipping cream, next you slowly add 1 cup of sugar and beat it with the beaters. Beat it until it looks fluffy or until it is not runny. Chill for 30 minutes and enjoy!

Flimsy, Fluffy SlimeHave you seen people walking around with slime? Well here’s how you make it. You need the following items: glue, shaving cream, borax or contact solution, and a mixing bowl or plate. Beads, sparkles, paint and dye are optional. First, you add your glue into a bowl. Next, you add in your sprinkles or beads and mix. Then slowly add in your borax or contact solution until you have the consistency you want. You can take it out of the bowl when it’s ready but if it is still sticky you just add more borax or contact solution. So here is the wonderful, fluffy, slime recipe for all to enjoy!
