CULTURAL AWARENESS TRAINING Are you a GP, nurse, practice staff or allied health professional looking to increase your knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture? Could you or your practice benefit from PIP IHI, PBS Co-payment measure and/or MBS item number information? Northern Australia Primary Health Limited has contracted Goombuckar Creations to deliver cultural awareness training program for the Townsville and Mackay region. The Coombuckar Creations cultural awareness training program is accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP Accredited for 8 category 2 Continuing Professional Development points) The training program has been tailored to health professionals in the primary, secondary and tertiary health care sectors including General Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals, Doctors, Specialists, Nurses, Practice staff, Administrative staff, and other hospital staff. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Increased knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures; Increased knowledge of the impact of past government policies and practices (colonization, removal from land, cultural dislocation) on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health and well-being; Increased knowledge of the socio-economic profile of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health and well-being; The Goombuckar Creations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Training Program for Health Professionals learning objectives include: Improved understanding of better communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; Increased confidence in identifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; Developed skill in providing culturally appropriate Practices; Culturally appropriate care plans and care packages; Develop new understanding of Medicare item numbers and referrals. The training package is contemporary and innovative and meets the Practice Incentive Program – Indigenous Health Incentive
