El poeta peruano Edgar O´Hara, autor en su dilatada trayectoria de ensayos literarios y diversos poemarios, deleitó al público asistente con algunos de sus últimos poemas. La velada estuvo amenizada por los propios comentarios del autor, que glosaban con gracia las fuentes de su inspiración y recreaban el momento de la creación poética The Peruvian poet Edgar O'Hara, author of a long list of literary of literary essays and several books of poetry, delighted the audience with some of his latest poems. The evening was enlivened by the author's own comments, which gracefully pointed out the sources of his inspiration and recreated the moment of poetic creation.

El poeta Edgar O´Hara y la traductora de poesía norteamericana Emily Thompson hablaron del proceso de creación del poema y mostraron al público la importancia de distintas herramientas poéticas en la elaboración de los versos. Del mismo modo y a partir de estas explicaciones, se demostró al numeroso público asistente la dificultad de traducir poesía a partir de la lectura de una serie de poemas propios y prestados
The poet Edgar O’Hara and American poetry translator, Emily Thompson spoke about the process of creating a poem and showed the audience the importance of different tools in developing poetic verses. Similarly and from these explanations, the large audience was showed the difficulty of translating poetry from reading a number of own their poems and borrowed ones.

Nacido en Cataluña en 1938 y profesor arquitecto jubilado, Joan Margarit es un poeta en lengua catalana y en lengua española. Es uno de los poetas más aclamados de España. En 2008 recibió el Premio Nacional de Poesía del Estado Español, el premio literario más importante para un escritor de habla no castellana, por su colección,”Casa de Misericòrdia”, y también el Premio Nacional de Literatura del Gobierno de Cataluña
Born in Catalonia in 1938 and former Professor and architect, Joan Margarit is a Catalan and Spanish language poet. He is one of the most widely acclaimed Spanish poets. In 2008 he received the Premio Nacional de Poesía, Spain’s highest literary award for non-Castilian writers, for his collection, “Casa de Misericòrdia”, as well as the National Prize for Literature given by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Pianista y compositora, es la primera música española en recibir una beca en el prestigioso Berklee College of Music en Boston. Ha colaborado dentro del género flamenco con numeros os artistas de la talla de Niño Josele, Jorge Pardo y Agustín Carbonell “el Bola”
Pianist and composer, she is the first Spanish musician to achieve the prestigious Presidential Scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She has always been close to flamenco music and has worked with numerous flamenco artists such as Niño Josele, Jorge Pardo and Agustín Carbonell “el Bola”

El concierto presentó música de diferentes géneros. La primera mitad del programa reunió obras con estilo romántico-tardío de compositores del centro de Europa. El tono del poema de Richard Strauss, Don Juan contaba con líneas melódicas y armonías lujosas que definen el estilo de esa época. La música después del intermedio fue de los ritmos y los brillantes colores instrumentales que han sido asociados con España.
The concert presented music of contrasting provenance and character. The first half of the program brought works in the late-Romantic style of composers from central Europe. Richard Strauss’ tone poem Don Juan featured the soaring melodic lines and lush harmonies that define the era’s style. The music that followed the intermission partook of the rhythms and bright instrumental colors that have long been associated with Spain.

Musica Ficta interpreta música sacra de Cristóbal de Moral, Tomás Luis de Victoria y Alonso Lobo, dedicada a Felipe II y Felipe III de España. Musica Ficta de Valencia, España, hace su debut en Seattle en la histórica catedral de St. James, abriendo el Early Music Guild´s International Series.
Musica Ficta performs sacred works by Cristóbal de Morales, Tomás Luis de Victoria, and Alonso Lobo, dedicated to Felipe II and Felipe III of Spain. Musica Ficta from Valencia, Spain, makes its U.S. debut in Seattle’s historic St. James Cathedral to open Early Music Guild’s International Series.

En su primera gira en solitario por Estados Unidos, sin los Chieftains, Núñez se considera un pionero instrumentista (también toca varias flautas) que ha unido la tradición de la gaita gallega a sus antiguas raíces celtas al mismo tiempo que ha encontrado conexiones con el flamenco español, la música cubana, brasileña y mexicana e incluso rock and roll. Es una estrella y verle tocar en vivo te atrapa por su sensibilidad, energía y virtuosismo.
Embarking on his first solo American tour without the Chieftains Nuñez is considered a groundbreaking instrumentalist (he also plays a variety of flutes) who has connected the Galician bagpipe tradition to its ancient Celtic roots while also finding connections to Spanish flamenco, Cuban, Brazilian and Mexican music and even rock ’n’ roll. He is a star, and while seeing him perform live one is gripped by his sensitivity, energy and virtuosity.

La Fundación Conservatorio Flamenco Casa Patas nació con el fin de convertirse en un foco que aglutinase todas las actividades relacionadas con la enseñanza, la investigación y la promoción del cante y el baile flamenco. Por primera vez en Seattle la actuación de Casa Patas estuvo acompañada de Karen.
Fundación Conservatorio Flamenco Casa Patas presents their fiery footwork set to live flamenco music. Casa Patas is known for their passionate vocals, and eclectic, jazzy music as well as their dynamic dancing. First time in Seattle, the performance features the group's new lead dancer, Karen Lugo.

Anyone who knows the world of early music knows the reputation of Jordi Savall. In a program expertly gauged for variety and musical nourishment, Savall and company spice the meal with just the right mix of solemnity and fun. And throughout they display not only phenomenal virtuosity but also an ensemble that never slips below perfection. Their passion for the music was cover in an elegance that elevated his performance to both warmth and aristocratic grace.

Se presentaron 18 películas españolas con 31 sesiones programadas de cine español. Los directores Ventura Pons Sala, Xavier Villaverde, Ignacio Vigalondo Palacios y Juan Martínez Moreno asistieron a la presentación de sus películas.

FESTIVAL DEL NUEVO CINE ESPAÑOL/ FESTIVAL OF NEW SPANISH CINEMA DEL 27 al 30 de septiembre/ September 27 through 30. SIFF McCaw Hall
En su quinto año consecutivo, el Festival del Nuevo Cine Español se consolida como uno de los festivales de cine español contemporáneo en Norteamérica. La serie se estrenó con la película que arrasó en los Premios Goya en este año 2012, No Rest for the Wicked (No Habrá Paz Para los Malvados, 2011) dirigida por Enrique Urbizu. La productora Paloma Molina estuvo presente.
In its fifth consecutive year, the 2012 Festival of New Spanish Cinema consolidates itself as the most important itinerant festival of contemporary Spanish Cinema in North America. The series opened with the film that swept the Goya Awards this year, No Rest for the Wicked (No Habra Paz Para los Malvados, 2011), directed by Enrique Urbizu. Producer Paloma Molina was in attendance.

The 4th annual edition of Seattle Latino Film Festival paid homage to
contemporary Brazilian cinema by celebrating the richness and diversity of Latin American communities, with the goal of bringing audiences and filmmakers together for an educational experience and to support the magic of film making as a part of Hispanic culture globally

Charla en la que Eva Nuñez trató entre otros temas sobre los orígenes del castellano, la influencia del idioma vasco y la influencia de los idiomas amerindios.
In this lecture, Eva Nuñez talked about different aspects of the history of the Spanish language, among them: the origins of Castilian, the influence of the Basque language and the influence of Amerindian languages.

Leah Farish presentó una dinámica charla sobre los hispanohablantes en los campos de Argelia en Tindouf. El uso del español en el Norte de África y la educación de los niños saharauis en Cuba y España han tenido implicaciones destacadas en la política y en la cultura.
Leah Farish conducted a dynamic talk about the Spanish-speaking people in Tindouf camps of Algeria. The use of Spanish in North African, and the education of Saharan children in Cuba and Spain have intriguing implications in politics and culture.
