1 .Transportation Clash

There are several annoying habits in public transportation in India. First of all, they use a cell phone and talk with a loud voice when they receive a calls which makes the people around them curious to know what happens. Moreover, people in India listening to songs loudly and indifference, also some people there carry their belongings with them in the transport, so the place becomes more narrow and crowded. Further, some people there don't punish their children, where they start jumping on the seats and inconvenience other passengers. Finally, some of the passengers begin to take a nap and don't care about those who sat in their side. (Rahul, 2014)

On the other hand, people in America are limits of using cell phones and listening to music in transportation and if they want to listen to songs they must use headsets and don't disturb other passengers. Moreover, Eating and drinking on trains is not allowed according to against transit policy because of their fear of a high risk of fires and passengers are left garbage in transportation. Also, public transportation agencies allows to carry of baby carriages and bicycles because some transportations such as: subway and rail are includes shelves to carry bikes. Further, it's not allowed to speak and ask questions on the driver or to speak with strangers, but this doesn't preclude the provision of assistance to others. Finally, people in America prefer to leave a personal space between them (two feet) and they don't like others stare on them because they love privacy. (S's, 2014)

my hotel

*Comment on the Clash.

After Puro changed Todd accommodations from Gharapuri Palace Hotel to stay at Auntie Ji’s guest house justifying that he don’t want him to stay alone at hotel and this place is very lonely and the aunt will take care of him better than her own real mother.USA people prefer to stay at hotels while they are traveling, and on the other hand , India people prefer to stay together and communicate together.

it is individualist and collectivist .

2 .Place of residence Clash.

Page 7: Culture Clash Outsourced India Shaimaa Abdulatif H00256638.

2 .Place of residence Clash.

People in India love extends family and family is necessary for them. Also, they prefer to stay and communicate together to preserve their culture and transfer it to their generations. (Cultural Information - India, 2009)

Also in India, and similar communities such as Bangladesh, the people there are similar and they are able to communicate with other and accept the views and ideas of others. Moreover, in these communities there are no racism. (Rajagopalan, 2013)

On the other hand, the number of hotels and resorts are increased in USA at least the 1790s and some people their stay for a week or month at hotels searching for the privacy, quality and good prices. (Brownrigg, 2006) Further, through a study conducted in 2014 shows that 44% of Americans prefer to stay in hotels during the holiday and travel period and arguing that they feel more comfortable and get more privacy and they don't want to cause inconvenience to others. Furthermore, some of them also they justify that they don't want to spend most of their time

with their families and they don't like courtesy ..( hall, 2014)

Sir you can’t eat with your left hand and put your hand that has been in your

mouth back in the food.

But why?..

Page 9: Culture Clash Outsourced India Shaimaa Abdulatif H00256638.

3 .How to eat ClashWhen Todd used his left hand to eat and licked his fingers which made Puro and the aunt feel shocked and this is unacceptable behavior in Indian society, where they are using their right hand to eat and left hand are considered unclean because they use it in toilet.

In India it’s High power distance and in USA its low power distance The way of eating in India are using the right hand with your fingertips and take small amounts every time and avoid putting fingers in the mouth thinking it makes the food tastier and feeds the mind through personal contact with food. (Prakash, 2012)Also, they avoid using the left hand because it's unclean and they use it when they using the bathroom. So, they avoid using the left hand while they are eating and in things that they pass it to others. (Cook, n.d.)

On the other hand, People in America eat using a fork and knife, this practice has taken in the nineteenth century from French people, American people are using a fork with the left hand and Knife with the right hand to cut off the food and then shift the fork to the right hand to eat and this method called cut-and-switch. Moreover, American

people though that they look stylish, but it's tiring and irritating .( .PRASERTONG, 2013)

4 .First Call when Todd Back Home Clash.

The first call Todd made it when he arrived back home in Seattle is for his parents, and the travel experience to India changed Todd personality completely from Individualism who prefer stay alone and not communicate a lot with others

to collectivism who love communicate with others .  Individualism communities are communities that don't prefer engaging and communicate with others and prefer to enjoy more privacy, also they take care of itself and their direct families only. (The hofstede centre, n.d.)Unlike collectivism communities are that you love to communicate with others and people in their surroundings, such as neighbors and who belonging to them. (The hofstede centre, n.d.)

We can notice from this movie that Indian society in general is a collectivism community likes cooperation, interdependence and communicate with others and helping the needy unlike American society is the individual community cares about the person in it himself and prefers isolation and they don't like to communicate and visit their parents, but on special occasions and holidays.

Would you please come with me to retrieve shipment that went to the

wrong place?

"No problem", "But first I must sleep for two hours, so that I can come back for the interviews with the new agents, and then I must make sure

that my mother gets to the hospital"

Page 13: Culture Clash Outsourced India Shaimaa Abdulatif H00256638.

5 .Low Power Distance and High Power DistanceTodd from USA, and this country have low power distance which is mean that people there have their rights, liberty and justice, for example the managers there discuss with employees when they want to take a decision. Also, an information are share between all the work phases. (Holder, n.d.)

We can notice that Todd has low power distance in different parts in this movie for example : *Todd calls Dave a “corporate slime-ball” and a “cheap bastard "

Indian employees address him, using Mr. Todd and Sir. *

On the other hand, India is a strong example of high power distance and the rate in this dimension is 77 which is high. This High power distance mean that there is no equality in matters relating to power and wealth, and employees there can't talk or discuss with their manager. (Geert Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions, n.d.)

We can notice that Puro has high power distance for example:When Todd asked Puro asked to go with him to retrieve shipment that went to the wrong place Puro say that:

"No problem", "But first I must sleep for two hours, so that I can come back for the interviews with the new agents, and then I must make sure that my mother gets to the hospital"

Puro decline for approval in order to preserve social harmony. While Todd discuss with his manger and didn't hide his feeling and opinions .

What about your right to choose?

I’m engage since I was 4 year old

Page 15: Culture Clash Outsourced India Shaimaa Abdulatif H00256638.

6 .Marriage Clash  Interaction between Aisha and Todd that shows individualist and collectivist cultures. When Todd asks Asha if she would ever consider living in the United States, she says: “I would miss my parents; it would be too hard.” When they are in public together, Asha is concerned what others will think. Todd, on the other hand, cannot understand this preoccupation. “You’re a free woman!” he exclaims. Then when he hears the news that her parents have arranged her marriage since she was a child, he cannot believe that a smart, opinionated woman like her would accept this. “What about your right to choose for yourself?” he asks.

Arranged marriages in India are spread widely, and manage by the parents, where the bride father choose a suitable husband for his daughter without taking her opinion, and the husband is chosen by criteria Identifies by the father. Moreover, divorce is not common in India because the couple's family similar in values, customs and traditions. (Zaslove, n.d.) On the other hand, marriage in America is for love and loyalty, the couples are getting married through love and they choose themselves without parent's opinion and weddings take place through small rooms, simple and few

numbers of people .( .Weddings in the United States, 2010)
