As we embrace 2013 with thanksgiving, hope and anticipation we are excited about what God will accomplish through the Central Union family this year. Our church has agreed to retain the “Excellence in All Things” theme in 2013. But just what do we mean by “Excellence in All Things”? Excellence is a noun that is most often defined as superior. Excellence is a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards. It is also used as a standard of performance. Some synonyms for excellence are class, distinction, eminence, excellency, greatness, high quality and supremacy. Some antonyms are failure, imperfection and inferiority.
Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do.” From that we can conclude that excellence is not an act, but a habit. Studies have shown that the most important way to achieve excellent performance in fields such as sport, music, professions and scholarship is to practice. Therefore, I challenge every member of Central Union to strive for EXCELLENCE in every area of your life! Not only in the church but family, work, school and relationships! This is the only way we will reach our goal of becoming a 5-STAR Church. Just as a hotel earns the distinction of becoming a 5-Star Hotel by the quality and excellence of its service through continuous practice, we MUST also continually strive to improve in every area of ministry. We cannot settle for mediocrity in any area. In His Service,Pastor K. Daniel DawseyFirst Lady Elaine Dawsey

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA MAKES HISTORY AGAIN!!!
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy…..”Martin
Luther King, JrFour years after making history by becoming the first black president elected in the United States, Barack Obama has been elected to a second term. Bolstered by wins in key swing states, among them Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania, the president was declared the winner by multiple news outlets just after 11 p.m. EST. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took the stage to concede the race shortly after midnight. Had Obama lost the election, he would likely have been remembered in history as the first black president, and maybe little else, Alexander said. Now, he has a chance to create a legacy rooted not in his identity, but in his ideas.
The prayers of the righteous availeth much, so keep praying saints, the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s. Despite recent acts of voter suppression, racism , we are still a great nation. Still in God we trust.

National Women’s History Month can trace its roots back to March 8, 1857, when women from New York City factories staged a protest over working conditions. International Women’s Day was first observed in 1909, but it wasn’t until 1981 that Congress established National Women’s History Week to be commemorated the second week of March. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month. So we at CUMBC celebrate all women that fought against insurmountable odds. Keep the faith ladies, the battle is not yours but the Lord’s . To God Be The Glory for all he has done!!!

For many years in the Black Baptist Church and some other denominations a well respected older woman was either elected or appointed to serve as the “church mother.” This is not synonymous with the practice in some Catholic churches of conferring that title on Mary, the Mother of Jesus. There were many roles for the church mother over the years. Some of which included but were not limited to, supporting the younger women in the church, overseeing the women’s groups in the church, assisting the pastor, washing and ironing the communion and baptismal items, preparing the communion and visiting the sick.
Most of these practices are now accomplished by auxiliaries and other ministry groups, however,
many churches have retained the position of church mother or “Mother of the Church” as a part of the
rich tradition of our faith and culture. Here at Central Union, we are blessed and honored to have
Sister Willie Maude Lumpkin serves as Mother of the Church.

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the
ministry of the word.

Sunday School – It’s for life!Sunday School is a place where people and churches can be transformed: growing leaders for the church’s mission, increasing people’s sense of belonging and commitment to stewardship, providing a place for new people to make friends and learn to grow as disciples. Most of all, it deepens our understanding of God's presence in all of our lives.
See you In Sunday School!!
