The Marie Curie Fellowships are probably the best funded fellowships for PhD students and postdocs I know of, especially regarding mobility. And

the emphasis on mobility is incredibly useful for establishing and maintaining collaborations with the international leaders in your field. Thus, I established collaborations with researchers across Europe and

even back in the United States. Also, the opportunity to experience living and working in Europe was

one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I think that it is a pretty common experience for graduate students to feel like their PhD will never end, but for me it went by too fast, like most good holidays.

Page 38: Curie Actions - European Commission · > 50 000 researchers of 141 nationalities – 23% from Third Countries (2007-2013) > 84 countries - 49 non MS/AC (2007-2013) > 19 700 participations

Brennan Bailey

"What exactly has made my research experience in Europe so wonderful? A combination of things, including the collaborative spirit of the project I am working within, the ease of travel from country to country, the willingness of colleagues to invite me into their countries and homes, the challenge of a new culture and language, and the freedom and challenge to design and execute a research project in a new lab setting. This experience has enabled so many new and exciting adventures in my work and in my life!"
