IMPORTANT UPDATES REGARDING THE YORKE & MID NORTH DISABILITY WORKFORCE HUB
Just like that the 18-19 financial year is behind us and we are all busy keeping up with the changes that
July seems to bring. It’s certainly been a busy time for all and the Hub is no exception.
The Yorke and Mid North Disability Workforce Hub is pleased to announce, it will continue to operate
until the end of December 2019, with a contract extension granted from the Department for Innovation
and Skills . The Hub will continue to undertake the following actions within the Disability Sector until that
date.
• Advise NDIS Providers and similar organisations regarding workforce planning, business and
organizational issues.
• Liaise with stakeholders such as Registered Training Organisations, Universities, Schools,
Government and Associations ensuring appropriate feedback is provided regarding the disability
sector.
• Ensure providers and other stakeholders are kept informed regarding matters affecting the sector
and the rollout of the NDIS.
• Facilitate NDIS Provider Network Meetings and community engagement activities
• Coordinate programs and initiatives that impact and support the growth of a localised skilled
workforce.
I have teamed up with Joby Connor from Big Day Productions to develop a disability sector social
media campaign to showcase some of the fabulous Disability Support Workers we have in our region.
The aim of the clips are to increase awareness of the various job opportunities available in the sector.
Our first clip showcases Jarrad, a Disability Support Worker from Uniting Country SA in Port Pirie. Jarrad
is so truly passionate about the work he does, which clearly shows in the clip HERE. I will be releasing
one clip a month for the next few months, so keep your eyes open as you never know who will pop up in
our future videos!
In other news, I am also proud to say that the Hub, through RDAYMN has been successful in gaining
Regional Employment Trials funding. The funding will allow us to deliver a targeted jobseeker training
program over the next 12 months. The aim of this project is to address high levels of unemployed and

under educated jobseekers in region, in a sector that is facing significant workforce challenges and a
growing demand for skilled workers.
Program participants will be provided with a diverse range of skills, experience and support across the
Disability and Community Care sector to help ensure the region has a pool of work ready people to meet
the current and future workforce needs. The program will also support local employers to identify and
address their workforce development needs and promote career and training pathways in the sector, with
a view to delivering employment outcomes for interested job seekers.
We are currently recruiting for someone to fill this exciting new vacancy and deliver this program. If this
sounds like you please have a look at the Workforce and Industry Coordinator (Disability) J&P spec
available HERE. I am happy to answer any questions people may have about this role.
Applications close 5.00pm on Friday 12th July 2019.

It can be hard keeping up with the new demands of many workplaces. Employees are now expected to do
a lot more reading and writing then they ever had to and often that involves computers. The good news is
the Reading Writing Hotline is here to help people find the right service to meet their needs whether than
is a class, private trainer or some resources. Here is what a few callers had to say about our service.
Please share our new video so we can reach more workers in need of help.
The Hotline is a free national phone referral service for adults wishing to improve their reading writing,
maths and digital literacy skills. We are a funded by Department of Education and Training and have
helped over 160,000 people in the past 25 years by assisting them to find the class or help they need.

CHANGE TO FUNDING FOR PARTNERS IN RECOVERY
The current process (referred to as in-kind) for charging and claiming for Partners in Recovery (PIR) and
Day to Day Living (D2DL) supports will change as of 1 July 2019.
In-kind support services are short-term arrangements that were put in place when the NDIS commenced
rolling out across Australia. Under this arrangement, in-kind supports are pre-paid by the government and
not through participant plans under the NDIS.
From 1 July 2019, funding for these supports will be included in an NDIS participant’s plan and they will
have the opportunity to choose their PIR and D2DL providers.
- the introduction of a Temporary Transformation Payment (TTP);
- increases to remote and very remote loadings;
- updates to travel, non- face-to-face services and cancellation billing policies;
- updates to Assistive Technology and Home Modifications;
The NDIS Support Catalogue 2019–20 contains support line item numbers, price limits and details to help
clearly identify what is claimable against each support line item.
