English (Ms. Linh Dang)

This term, the students will incorporate reading comprehension exercises and shared reading in

class with this term’s novel, George’s Marvellous Medicine. They will be asked to analyse the

motives, actions and events in their literacy books. Key language features such as nouns,

adjectives, poetry and performance will be explored. The rest of the term will revert back to the

Cambridge textbooks to cover fiction writing, with an emphasis on formal and informal language.

Students will explore colloquial and idiomatic speech within dialogues and play scripts. Another

unit from the textbook focuses on different types of persuasive texts, using pupils’ oral and

written skills.

Mathematics (Ms. Pang Yi Chin)

In the first half of term, students will be learning about ratio and proportion, length, capacity,

measurement, time, calendar, area, perimeters and skills of handling data.

In the second half term, we will be focusing much of our time to do problem solving questions to

increase their critical thinking skills and applying what they have learnt to word problems. These

problem solving and exam-based questions will cover a wide-range of topics that have been

learnt throughout the year.

Science (Mrs Pavithra Sinnanan)

In the first half term the students will learn on unit 4 Sounds. In this unit students will learn about

how sound travels through different materials and how the sounds are been measured. The

students will also learn about muffling the sound and the function of it. To continue they will then

learn about the high and low sounds and lastly about the pitch on percussion instruments.

On the second half of the term students will be learning Unit 5 on Electricity and Magnetism. In

this unit students will be introduced that every atoms is made up of even smaller particles which

has positive (protons) and negative charge (electrons). They will also learn the different sources

of electricity, how do they flow and the electrical symbols. They will then continue this unit with

magnetism. In magnetism they will learn about the different poles of magnets, their properties of

magnets and finally the uses of magnets.

Humanities (Ms. Linh Dang)

This term in History, we will focus on the Anglo-Saxons, Picts and Scots. Students will study the archaeological evidence at a famous British site. They will find out who the Anglo-Saxons were and where they came from. They will be able to use various historical sources to find out about Anglo-Saxon life. Furthermore, students will explore Anglo-Saxon culture including art, music, legends and poetry. Our final Geography topic of the year will be Rainforests. Students will use sources such as atlases and the internet to explore our planet’s regions and learn about the main layers of such forests. They will be asked to investigate the current issues concerning deforestation and its effects on the people and animals who live there.

ICT (Mrs. Haniza Hussin)

This term, students will learn about keywords in search, they will test with different keyword

searches and compare their results; they will refine their searches by using multiple words,

synonyms, and alternative words and phrases. In E-Safety, students will learn showing respect

for people’s work. By defining plagiarism and describing its consequences and learning how

giving credit is a sign of respect for people’s work. They will learn when it is acceptable to use

people’s work, and how to write a citation. Students will be introduced to the concepts of charts

and surveys also.

Mandarin as a 1st Language (Ms Heng Yue Shi)

This term, students will study topics namely Learning Attitude and Classical Stories. The students

will learn how to use dictionary, and improve their Chinese vocabulary using readings,

presentations and completing spelling tests.

They will also learn how to analyse titles and collect resources from the internet. They will

analyse the content using tables. They will also learn how to type Mandarin characters with Pin

Yin. Group discussions and debates on given topics will be conducted this term. At the end of the

term, students will be able to write compositions of around 100 words and use at least five

Chinese idiom.

Mandarin as a 2nd Language ( Ms. Sim Jia Xin )

This term, students will be learning about school subjects and facilities, direction and

stationeries. The students will focus on developing their listening, speaking, reading and writing

skills through various classroom activities. Students will be able to understand the main points

and personal responses from a short text. Furthermore, they can express themselves with

increasing confidence, independence and creativity regarding the topics covered. Other than

writing skills, the students are expected to perform oral tasks in pairs or in group to discuss on a

given topic. Listening practice will be focused on by using the Chinese Made Easy CD in order to

enhance the listening skill of the students. Other than oral speaking and listening, they will be

assessed on stroke orders, characters written and phrases forming skills too.

Performing Arts (Ms Carrena Tung and Ms Emily Spedding)

The Performing Arts subject consists of two components: Music and Speech and Drama. In Music students will take part in a range of activities to develop children’s ability to explore different rhythmic patterns for school production. Through that students will also learn to sing musically and respond to songs with body movement. In Speech and Drama, students will be learning different performance techniques. The main focus for this part of the year will be the school production. Year 4 students will be adopting the character role and learning a dance to perform.

EAL (Ms. Nurin Najmina)

This term, we will be focusing on the topic ‘Let’s do some sport’, ‘Our hobbies ‘and ‘At the

hospital’. The students are going to identify different prepositions of place, differentiate between

regular and irregular verbs, use present continuous to make affirmative sentences, use relative

clauses to describe different things, and answer reading comprehension questions. Through role-

plays, games and presentations, students will brush up their listening, speaking, reading and

writing skills. Weekly spelling test will also be carried out so that the students can practise new

vocabularies and use them in writing sentences and also speaking.

Art and Design (Mr Mohd Shahrul Hasfis)

This terms, year 4 student will learn about Resins craft. Students will learn about design drawing

and learn how to cast figurines or objects, as a coating for craft pieces, to encase images or items

such as flowers or tiny intricate objects, or to mend broken objects. At Creativity, we have two

types of resins: Epoxy Resins and Polyester Resins.

Bahasa Malaysia (Ms Sathiawathi Sinnathamby and Ms Shantiletchumi Sellapa)

This term, students will be guided to identify the types of pollutions and their causes through

pictures. Through these picture activities, students will learn about the various environmental

issues that harm our nature. They are expected to create a simple paragraph (picture composition)

on haze mentioning its causes and hazards to human life in Malay language. At the end of this

term, they should be able to differentiate nouns, verbs, adjectives and connectives. In addition,

they will be guided to answer open-ended comprehension questions.

Malaysian Studies (Ms Sathiawathi Sinnathamby)

This term, students will be looking at successful women in Malaysia, their contributions and their

roles in our family and society. Students will be exposed to famous personalities namely Datuk

Nicole David, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Dato Michelle Yeoh. At the end of the term, students will

create a portfolio about work life balance for working mothers and highlight their choice of

famous personality.

Physical Education (Ms Jack Beattie, Mr Dennis Lee, Ms Emily Tan & Mr Vinod Khanna)

At the beginning of term, students will begin with the topic of athletics where they will be required to develop their skills of running, throwing and jumping. The students will learn the refine the correct techniques for high jump, long jump and shot putt. After sports day, students will begin to learn a variety of sports in our Striking and Fielding unit. This will see the students develop their skills in cricket and teeball as well as be introduced to new sports such as rounders. During the second half of this term, students will be developing skills in Gymnastics and Jump Rope. Students will explore a range of Gymnastics components important for developing muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, balance and coordination basic. Static positions, locomotion, spring and balance will be taught and experienced through innovative games and station activities for Gymnastics.
