SECTION 1: SETTING THE CONTEXTBACKGROUND INFORMATIONMarcel Proust, (born July 10, 1871, in Auteuil, near Paris, France; died November 18, 1922, Paris). French novelist, author of À la recherche du temps perdu - In Search of Lost Time, a seven-volume novel based on Proust’s life told psychologically and allegorically.

1. Look at the following pictures and read Marcel Proust’s Quote. Reflect and answer questions A and B.

a) What is the first thing you think of when you look at it? Why?

b) What do you think the quotation means? How can we discover ourselves through art?

2. Identify and write the name of the art forms in the pictures (1 - 8). You can use the Pictionary at the end of this worksheet to identify the names.

3. Read the words and expressions in the box and circle the ones you think could be used to describe a picture. Use the diagram below to help you to decide which words are used for descriptions. For extra help you can use the Pictionary at the end.

4. Look at the two pictures in the next page taken from activity number 2, select one of them to write a short description using the words you circled in activity number 3. Use the diagram bellow to help you analyze which aspects are going to be described.

picture there is a woman, it was painted using vivid colors. The colors I can see are yellow, brown, black, light blue and red. In the background I can observe yellow and light blue colors.

7. Have another look at the examples from the previous activity and think about other places that are known for their remarkable pieces of art, monuments, or craftworks. Write three sentences, each indicating a
