2010: July. Invited by Oxford Round Table to present a paper on international terrorism. 2010: Spring and Fall Semesters. I took a Turkish course at the Tampa Bay Turkish Cultural Center. 2009: December. Invited by the Fondation du la Vocation whose guest of honor was

President Nichola Sarkozy. 2009: Due to a surgery in October 2008, I had to abstain from some national and

international travels. Invited by the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education for the July 2009 conference on “Tunisian Competencies” overseas.

2008: Invited by the Osservatorio Del Mediterraneao to participate in a World Peace

Conference in Palermo, Italy, where I presented the following paper: Le Processus de Paix Israelo-Palestinienet les Elections Presidentielles Americaines: De Bush a Bush. Sepetember 18-21.

2006-07 As a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Algiers, Algeria, during the academic

year 2006-2007, I participated in several international conference in Algeria and in Tunisia. While in Algeria I undertook research for a book manuscript France and the Arab-Islamic World in Euro-American Relations.

2006: I came back to Tampa from Algeria to present a paper on Sovereign Immunity

and the Pinochet Case, USF ISLAC, September. 2006: Participated in the Second International Congress “Imams and Rabbis for

Peace,” in Sevilla, Spain, March 2004-05 Fulbright Award for Algeria. Declined because of USF teaching needs. 2002 Invited to contribute to “Le Livre International de la Paix” (The Book of Peace)

presented at the “Memorial de Caen”, Normandy, France.

Invited to participate in the inauguration of the “Memorial de Caen” and in the Colloquium on World Issues with Heads of States and distinguished international scholars held in October.

Invited by the European and Tunisian Academies of Sciences, Arts, and Letters to preside one of the sessions of the Conference “The Mediterranean Serving Man, Man Serving the Mediterranean”, September, Carthage, Tunisia.

I assisted the Florida Committee on the exchange programs with the Middle East (Egypt and Israel). I assisted in the planning and the implementation of the Exchange Program with Université de Paris VII (since 1978). I developed a new course on Human Rights for GIA in 1998-99.

O Instituto Nacional de Ciencia e Tecnologia, University of Sao Paulo, March. 2007 I was invited by Global Ethics to participate in a conference on the Preservation

of Sacred Spaces at the United Nations, New York, in preparation of the U.S. Peace Initiative Conference at Annapolis, MD, November.

In November 2007 I also was invited to participate in a world conference on Peace and Higher Education hosted by the Pro-Digitate Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal.

2006 In March I was invited by OECD (Organization of Economic Cooperation and

Development) to be one of the Rapporteurs of the First Global Forum on Higher Education hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education of Chile, Santiago, Chile, March.

1992-02 Strong commitment and participation in interfaith dialogue conferences in the

US and overseas 2001 Invited to participate in the first Florida State University System workshop on

the establishment of a European Union Studies Center to be headquartered at the University of Florida, in Gainesville. I am one of four USF faculty liaison group with the EU Studies Center.

I planned, organized and conducted, as co-director and director, seven consecutive Summer Seminars for Teachers. In this framework, I was invited by the Office of Higher Education of the State of Florida to select a delegation of educators to attend a seminar in Egypt. Another group of teachers were sent to Nigeria with a NSF grant acquired by the Afro-American Studies Program at USF then chaired by Dr. Festus Ohaegbulam. I assisted the Center for African Studies of the University of Florida to develop a summer seminar for teachers by co-sponsoring the 1977 Seminar on Africa in Tampa.

1975-82 Helped organize two Florida Regional Seminars on Africa with Florida State

University and the University of Florida (1974 and 1976).

I initiated the planning and organization of the 1977 Seminar on Arab Women, with the assistance of Dr. Nuha Abu Dhabbah, from Washington, D.C.

Invited to several orientation programs for Hillsborough county teachers in cross-cultural education with the specific goal of correcting or reassessing cultural perceptions in existing materials dealing with non-Western civilizations.

1982-83 Planning of a world conference on The New Information Order and

International Violence with the help of UNESCO and some U.S. agencies. This project was meant to contribute to the inauguration of the USF International Center for the Study of Violence.

Research in Progress I conducted a partial research for a book at the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France. Since then, I have been officially invited to their important conferences/seminars as a Fellow researcher. I conducted a brief research in Tunisia on the recent and disturbing developments of the Arab Spring: I was trying to verify my own assessment of the revolution presented in Brazil and in my paper. I began my research for a paper to be presented at Oxford next summer: “The Axis Paris-London-Washington and the Mediterranean: From Suez to Benghazi via Tunis 1956-2012.The paper has been submitted to the Maghreb Review, London, for publication before the deadline of October 2013. I accepted a few interviews/attended many lectures at USF organized by the C enter for Strategic and Diplomatic Studies-Patel Center, and at Saint Leo Univ/Interfait Dialogue: Eternal Light as a guest of Dr. Abraham Peck and members of the American Jewish Committee of Sarasota. The event was also attended by President J. Genshaft.

International Service:

I assisted a Soufi calligraphist, writer, and composer, Mr. Ahmed Ben Diab, based in Paris and Milano, to translate a very difficult and poetically written foreword for his book to be published in June 2013. I accepted to present a lecture on Islam for Dr. Janna Merrick in Paris with the suggestion that they visit the Grand Mosque of Paris.

Dr. Bernard Hugonnier, former Deputy Director of the Division of Higher Education of OECD offered me the opportunity to join him and his newly created Consulting Group for a project of International Education Aid to Tunisia that he was submitting to the Office of the French Prime Minister. I had no choice but to decline his offer because I was about to leave for Paris and Tunisia for my own planned research. However, I accepted to assist him-although on very short notice- in evaluating his

Dr. Hugonnier and I had had the golden opportunity to be on the same panel with the former Director of UNESCO, Dr. Mayor, at the European Institute of Higher Education in Bucarest, and later at the First Global Forum on Higher Education in Santiago de Chile.
