We have investigated the cellular immune response to Helicobacter in a mouse model of gastric infection, inflammation and adenocarcinoma. A second focus has been on the study of intestinal epithelial barrier function in the development of inflammatory bowel disease. We have extended this focus to investigating the interrelationship between the mucosal immune response and the development of autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes.
