Walmart has joined Dick's Sporting Goods in raising its age restriction to 21 years for the purchase of firearms. Dick's Sport-ing Goods will no longer sell “assault-style” rifles. Therapy dogs were on hand Wednesday to comfort high school students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as they headed back to class for the first time since a deadly shooting took place two weeks ago. A teacher at Dalton High School in Georgia was arrested Wednesday after barricading himself in a classroom. At least one shot was fired out the window. The teacher has been charged with aggravated assault, carrying a weapon on school grounds, terroris-tic threats, reckless conduct, possession of a gun during the com-mission of a crime and disrupting a public school. He is currently being held at the Whitfield County Jail without bond.

DENSO EXPANDING AND HIRING! A major expansion at DENSO will mean hundreds of new jobs at
the Athens manufacturing location. DENSO announces it is ex-
panding its North American operations through a $190 million
investment in its Athens facility. The investment will add four
new production lines
and 320 jobs, and

produce and deliver
key parts for its cus-
tomers. Athens will debut one new pro-
duction line for Gaso-
line Direct Injection
injectors, as well as
one low pressure fuel pump and two high pressure fuel pump pro-
duction lines. DENSO is starting their hiring immediately and

The Athens Department of Public Works announces that Long
Street will be closed from Hornsby Street to Washington Avenue
and the right-hand lane and the parking spaces on the north side of Washington Avenue from Baxter Street to just past Long Street
will be closed until Tuesday, March 13th, at 5 p.m. The purpose
of the closure is for a Tennessee Department of Transportation
drainage project.

Marlynn June Mitchell, age 85, of Harriman, died Monday at

WEDNESDAY’S MARKET REPORT: U.S. stocks
ended the day lower, with the energy and basic materials sectors
as the largest detractors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was
down 381 points or 1.5% to 25,029. The Standard & Poor's 500
Index was down 30 points or 1.1% to 2,714, and the NASDAQ
Composite Index was down 57 points or 0.8% to 7,273.
This Saturday is Weed Wrangle Day at Hiwassee/Ocoee State
Park. Never been to a weed wrangle? It’s kind of like opposite
day at the park. Weed Wrangle is a state-wide clean-up event
dedicated to ridding Tennessee of non-native plant species. This
Saturday, volunteers from across the state will be helping to eradicate invasive plants in public spaces. At the Hiwassee/Ocoee
State Park the goal will be to eliminate as much privet as possible
in an 8-hour span. Tools will be provided. Meet at the park office,
404 Spring Creek Road, Delano, at 8 a.m. and bring gloves, pants,
and sturdy closed-toed shoes.
