Cutie PatootieNeed a special gift for a little one that’s on the way?

This quilt combines lots of shapes and colors that

make it not only too cute for words but educational

as well! Deidre and Wendy made this baby quilt

when they learned their friend was expecting. Fol-

low their example when making your version, and

choose an assortment of happy prints and textures.

We recommend a fl at cotton or wool batting if you

plan to use this as a baby quilt.

So that you may plan your fabric arrangement

as you construct blocks, the cutting sizes for the

assorted pastel, white, and blue fabrics are presented

in the Section Assembly Diagrams. Have fun

mixing and matching a large variety of fabrics.

The border fabrics are used in the blocks. Cut

border strips before constructing blocks to ensure

suffi cient yardage for borders. We call for cutting

long 4½˝ strips of blue fabric for the outer border.

You may wish to cut several different blue fabrics in

shorter lengths and piece them together to achieve

the look of Deidre’s and Wendy’s quilt.

General Piecing InstructionsThe repetition of simple pieced blocks in different sizes gives this quilt its charm. Follow these piecing diagrams for piecing instructions and refer to photo and Section Assembly Diagrams for sizes and colors.

This symbol is used in the Section Assem-bly Diagrams to give you cutting dimensions for quarter-square triangles. Cut squares in the appropriate fabrics in the sizes indicated, and then cut each square in half twice diagonally.
