Wilson Curriculum Vitae Benjamin Paul Wilson Education 1993-2003: University of Wales, Swansea, UK 1. Engineering Doctorate Materials Engineering “Scanning Electrochemical Techniques for the Monitoring of Localised Corrosion on Automotive Steels” 2003 2. M.Phil. Materials Engineering “Ultrasound, Cavitation and Cleaning” 1999 3. B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry, Class 2:2 1997 Current Position: Senior Researcher, Department of Chemistry, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland (June 2012 – onwards) My current position concentrates on the electrochemistry at the oil/water interface in microemulsions. This is a relatively unexplored field that combines the electrochemical know-how of oil-water interfaces with the well-established field of microemulsions. My research also encompasses smart coatings based on nanocontainers, surface electrochemistry, corrosion and polymer-metal interfaces and adhesion. In addition, I have published in the areas of electrochemistry, corrosion and energy materials and my international experience in interdisciplinary research clearly demonstrates my ability for international networking. As a founding member and first chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in Finland, International Section, I feel I have the necessary capabilities to enhance the activities of the ISE Finland by building on the excellent work of past representatives and enhancing collaboration between different interest groups. Previous Work Experience 1. Project Officer, College of Engineering, Swansea University, UK (Jan 2011 – May 2012) 2. Senior Visiting Researcher, Institute of Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry, University of Paderborn, Paderborn, Germany (June 2010 – December 2010) 3. Senior Post Doctoral Researcher, FYKE, Aalto University School of Science and Technology, Espoo, Finland (June 2007 – December 2010) 4. Senior Post Doctoral Researcher, META, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels, Belgium (September 2005 – May 2007) 5. Post-Doctoral Researcher, Christian-Doppler Lab at Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research (MPIE), Düsseldorf, Germany (May 2003 – April 2005) Positions of Responsibility 2012 Onwards: Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) representative for Aalto University 2011 to 2012: Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) South West Wales, Committee Member. 2008 to 2010: Founder member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in Finland, International Section, and Chair. 2010: International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), Finnish Representative. 2007-2008: Finnish International representative for the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). 2001-2003: Committee member of the Young ICORR section of the Institute of Corrosion, UK. Prizes and Awards Winner of the 2002 Institute of Corrosion Galloway Medal for being an outstanding, younger corrosion engineer or scientist. Awarded Chartered Chemist (C.Chem) status by the Royal Society of Chemistry, 2010. Awarded Chartered Scientist (C.Sci) status by the Science Council UK, 2010. Awarded European Chemist (EurChem) status by the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS), 2011.
