Women’s and Men’s Groups
What is the purpose of a women’s/men’s group?
Outstanding men and women come together to learn more about themselves and to form close friendships. This group can be anything you NEED it to be! Learn how to be a successful, confident person. Each group is different: different people have different needs.
To learn from each other
To grow
To share experiences
To know yourself
To hear new ideas

What do we do at meetings?
• Learn how to play frisbee and volleyball• Skype with PCMO Laura to learn meditation techniques• Talk about what stresses a Chinese college student and brainstorm ways to relieve stress.• Skype with a nurse in America to learn about health• Try western food• Learn about volunteering• Learn self defense• Talk with foreign friends• Talk about how to become successful
But each group is different. YOU must decide what your group is all about!
Plans for the future: The GLOW Conference
The GLOW Conference seeks to instill skills and confidence in the women of China's future. Students who are members of women's groups from several area universities will attend this 3-day conference to learn from each other and share ideas and concerns. In this safe and supportive yet diverse group, the attendees will discuss successful women who have gone before them, their hardships and successes. They will participate in leadership activities, team-building activities, and trust-building activities. They will have a book club. Guest speakers- successful women from the area- will host round-table discussions to answer questions and inspire confidence.
Why are men’s and women’s groups necessary?
College is a rough time. Students leave their homes for the very first time and must live with new people in a new place. Pressure from parents, friends, and especially school can be great. Also, life paths are created and molded during these pivotal years.
These groups offer a support network. They can talk about their worries and their fears with students who are going through the same thing. They can rely on and support each other.
Students are also exposed to new experiences which they may never have had otherwise. They may realize they enjoy or excel at something new.
Lastly, students can learn invaluable skills that can help them throughout their lives.
