    The coaching of Cyber Station Operator Competency should be by a suitably approved person, suchas the Candidates Supervisor, who should hold a Certificate of Competence or a Certificate ofTraining from an approved Training Provider for the particular model of Cyber Station, e.g. NOVCyberbase.

    The Cyber Station Operator Competency consists of rig specific Task Elements that the Candidateshould complete to be made aware of, demonstrate understanding of or be able to demonstratecompetency of through a combination of observation and questioning by the end of the coachingperiod.

    It should be noted that the Cyber Station Operator Competency is intended to cover functions andoperation of the Cyber Station being performed in a Driller or Assistant Driller role and allCandidates should be in possession of a current Well Control certificate.

    The Cyber Station Operator Competency is not intended to be considered as Driller or AssistantDriller training on its own and other aspects of competency for those positions are included in theexisting Competency System.

    Cyber Station Operations will be performed in compliance with policy and procedures with rig specificprocedures, work guidelines and good drilling practices being followed as required.

    Candidates will be expected to use the appropriate installation documentation such as Trip Sheet,Drilling Trend Sheet etc. for the operations being performed.

    The Cyber Station Operator Competency includes three (3) parts:

    Part A: Drilling Control Room Induction

    Part B: Practical Operations Task Elements

    Part C: Operator Skills Assessments

    Following approved Company and industry recognised Best Practice the Candidate will be requiredto perform the Cyber Station functions and successfully demonstrate their ability to operate theCyber Station, by completing all parts of the Cyber Station Operator Competency satisfactorily.

    The Rig Superintendent is the Verifier of the Cyber Station Operator Competency portfolio process asthe Senior Company Representative.

    The Toolpusher or a Drilling Operations Coach will be the Witness during the Cyber Station OperatorCompetency portfolio coaching process.

    The Witness is responsible for issuing the Cyber Station Operator Competency portfolio to aCandidate and will observe and question the Candidate during practical operations to confirm theirknowledge and understanding.

    The Witness will ensure that all documentation is completed correctly, confirm that all evidence isauthentic and will ensure that all forms and associated coaching documentation are retained in theCandidatespersonnel file in the Installation / Rig office.

    Candidates are responsible for keeping their original Cyber Station Operator Competency portfolioand any supporting documentation in a safe, good condition

    Candidates are responsible to hand in their completed Cyber Station Operator Competency portfolioand any additional evidence to the Rig Clerk who will scan them and send a copy to the onshoretraining coordinator.

    The Candidate, Witness and Verifier will sign and date the Pre-Declaration before the coachingcommences to confirm that they are in agreement to the time and manner of the coaching andunderstand the nature and reasons for it being conducted.

    The Rig Superintendent and Toolpusher(s) are ultimately responsible and will ensure that nopersonnel are allowed to operate the Drilling Control Room equipment and Cyber Stationunsupervised unless the person has completed the rig specific Drilling Control Room Induction.

    All personnel who are required to operate the Cyber Station as part of their job function duties mustcomplete the requirements of the Drilling Control Room Induction training prior to performing theCyber Station Practical Operations Task Elements.

    The intention of the Drilling Control Room Induction is to provide all Operators with critical informationon the Drilling Control System and items of the Drill Floor, Derrick, Pipe Handling and Utilityequipment to enable them to operate the Cyber Station in an optimum condition to ensure a safeand efficient operation and to minimize downtime while maintaining compliance with policies,procedures and agreed safe operational practices.

    The Drilling Control Room Induction will provide the basic familiarisation and awareness training ofthe drilling control room and associated equipment that should allow the Candidate to perform thebasic pipe handling and drilling operations with an understanding of the safe operating practices andrig specific hazards.

    The Drilling Control Room Induction will be location / installation specific and the information to be

    covered will detail the critical knowledge of the Cyber Station control system, display screens,joystick and keypad controls, associated drilling and pipe handling equipment and will provide theCandidate with the awareness of the Cyber Station handover and equipment pre-use checksrequirements and General Operator Practices.

    The following task elements will be included: Drilling Control Room Familiarisation Cyber Operating Control System Power Assignment HMI Screen Displays HMI Joystick Controls HMI Keypad Controls Alarm + Message System Anti-Collision System Emergency Stops Equipment Configuration

    The Installation / Rig will maintain a dedicated Drilling Control Room Induction support document thatwill detail the rig specific information to be included for each task element.

    The Candidate will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the information covered in theDrilling Control Room Induction by completing an Induction Questionnaire that will include a seriesof multiple choice and TRUE / FALSEquestions.

    All questions must be answered correctly to pass the Induction Questionnaire.

    On satisfactory completion of the Drilling Control Room Induction the Witness will declare that theCandidate has satisfactorily demonstrated their understanding of the task elements and willcomplete the form with the name of the Location / Installation, the Model and Control System of theCyber Station, the Candidates details, including full name and present position.

    The Candidate will sign and declare that they acknowledge they have received and understood theinformation related to the Drilling Control Room Induction training and pledge their commitment tocompliance with policy, rig specific procedures, work guidelines and good drilling practices.

    The Witness will take the completed and signed form to the Senior Representative at the installationwho will sign and acknowledge that the Candidate is approved and authorised to operate the CyberStation to perform practical operations.

    The Cyber Station Practical Operations Task Elements consists of the location / installation specifictasks that the Candidate should be able to demonstrate proficiency of, related to the safe andefficient operation of the Cyber Station and the associated surface pipe handling and drilling

    equipment.

    The Practical Operations Task Elements section will record the manufacturer and model of each itemof equipment being operated and will detail the criteria of what should be demonstrated or explainedto satisfactorily complete the requirements of that Task Element.

    The Practical Operations Task Elements will include a series of equipment based tasks where theCandidate will be required to demonstrate the correct operation of individual equipment functions,identify equipment components or screen display information and correctly answer questions relatedto the control system or equipment controls during observation:

    The following task elements will be included: Cyber Station Components

    Cyber Operating Control System Power Assignment HMI Screen Displays HMI Joystick Controls HMI Keypad Controls Alarm + Message System Anti-Collision System Emergency Stops Equipment Configuration

    During the coaching process the Candidate will operate the Cyber Station controls under closesupervision of the Witness for routine tripping and drilling operations until they have demonstrated

    an understanding of the hazards involved in mishandling the equipment and are capable ofconfiguring and monitoring all relevant instruments and equipment controls.

    The Witness will monitor the Candidates ability through a combination of observation and questioningduring operations for a period of time until satisfied that the Candidate has demonstrated their abilityto operate the Cyber Station satisfactorily.

    The Witness will be responsible to determine which practical operations may be performedunsupervised for short periods of time during the coaching process or will require continualsupervision until the Candidate has satisfactorily demonstrated their ability and fully completed therequirements of a specific Practical Operations Task Element.

    The Candidate must perform the Operator functions and practical operation for the specific type ofCyber Station being coached and will demonstrate their ability by performing each task elementsatisfactorily on a minimum of two (2) occasions during the coaching period.

    The Practical Operations Task Elements will be graded with the Appraisal Grading System and aminimum appraisal grade two (2) is considered as satisfactory and acceptable performance.

    It will be up to the discretion and judgement of the Witness as to how many times the Candidate willbe required to repeat the Practical Operations Task Element process above the minimum two (2)times, before signing off the element in the portfolio.

    On satisfactory completion of each Task Element of operations the Witness and Candidate will initialand date that element on the Practical Operations Task Element sheet with the Witness adding anycomments or recommendations where appropriate, related to the Candidates performance.

    The Candidate will be considered ready for the Operator Skills Assessments only when they have

    satisfactorily completed the Practical Operations Task Elements.

    On satisfactory completion of the Practical Operations Task Elements the Candidate will perform theOperator Skills Assessments as a final confirmation that the Candidate meets the KCA DEUTAGrequirements and has demonstrated their ability to proficiently operate the Cyber Station and can beconsidered as a competent Cyber Station Operator.

    The Operator Skills Assessments consist of the location / installation specific sequences of surfacepipe handling and drilling operations that the Candidate should be able to demonstrate proficiency ofby meeting an acceptable level of performance for operating the equipment safely and efficiently bythe end of the coaching period.

    The Operator Skills Assessments will be graded with the Appraisal Grading System and a minimumappraisal grade two (2) is considered as acceptable and must be achieved to pass the assessment.

    The specific sequences of pipe handling and drilling operations that should be performed include:

    Laying Down Tubulars to the Catwalk

    Picking Up Tubulars from the Catwalk

    Pull Out of the Hole to the Derrick Run In the Hole from the Derrick

    Drilling and Connection Operations

    The Candidate must perform the Operator Skills Assessments in compliance with the followingperformance criteria:

    Review handovers and relevant information to the proposed activities.

    Establish effective communications with those persons involved in the operation as required.

    Relate all relevant information to those involved in the operation clearly at the appropriate timesand ensure they have understood.

    Identify any potential safety, health and environmental risks that may result from the proposedoperation.

    Ensure that any necessary Permit to Work requirements are met and in force.

    Make a thorough inspection of the systems and set up the equipment for the required operation.

    Ensure that all equipment is in a safe condition and capable of operation.

    Ensure that all Alarms with High / Low settings and Limits are set for the required operation.

    Confirm the limits for the Drawworks and associated equipment.

    Operate the Drawworks with regard to maintaining control, sequence and speed.

    Set slips accordingly with a smooth change-over of weight between the slips and elevators toprevent equipment damage.

    Ensure that all pipe connections are made up correctly to the required torque.

    Bring Mud Pumps on line so as not to cause damage to the formation or surface equipment.

    Safely operate all equipment and systems as needed to meet the operational requirements. Monitor the on-going status and performance of the equipment during the operation.

    Promptly deal with and correctly respond to any system and equipment problems.

    Initiate emergency shutdown procedures promptly when the situation demands it.

    Ensure that all tasks are undertaken in line with relevant health, safety and environmentalprocedures and practices and the most up to date KCA DEUTAGWork Guidelines.

    Mandatory disqualification and failure of the Operator Skills Assessments will occur if any of thefollowing faults are observed:

    Unsafe Mount or Dismount of Cyber Station During Operation

    Equipment Not Configured Correctly

    Unsafe Operation of Equipment Alarms Not Acknowledged

    Collision of Equipment

    during the Operator Skills Assessments.

    The Witness will perform an appraisal of the Candidates ability, knowledge and understanding duringthe observation of each Operator Skills Assessments and a grading will be made between 1 to 4based on the Candidates Screen Navigation, Joystick Control and Keypad Operation and theirGeneral Performance which will take into consideration their overall safety awareness andequipment knowledge.

    New personnel who have not received any prior training on the Cyber Station may be appraisedinitially with a grading of three (3) or four (4) for some of the elements while they are in the processof learning the HMI controls and obtaining practical experience.

    It is normal and expected that initial performance and operation of the controls may be poor withmistakes easily made although the Candidate will be expected to demonstrate visible improvementover time with coaching provided as necessary and as more practice time is achieved.

    An Operator should be able to progress in a short period of time from a grade four (4) or grade three(3) to at least a grade two (2) level of acceptable control and satisfactory knowledge andunderstanding where only infrequent minor errors or mistakes may be observed.

    Ensure that all forms and associated competency documentation are completed correctly withthe required information.

    Ensure that all forms and associated competency documentation are retained in theCandidates personnel file inthe Installation / Rig office.

    The Practical Operations Task Elements contains a section that can be used for recording andappraising any additional observations above the minimum two (2) x occasions.

    The Operator Skills Assessments section contains one additional assessment form in the event thatan assessment is not passed on the first attempt and a subsequent attempt is required.

    The Installation Senior Representative will sign the Cyber Operator Confirmation - Record ofCompletion form to declare that they acknowledge that the coaching is complete.

    The Installation / Rig will maintain an Authorised Cyber Operator Database to indicate that theCandidate has completed the Operator Skills Assessments.

    The original forms for Drilling Control Room Induction, Practical Operations Task Elements, OperatorSkills Assessments, Cyber Operator Confirmation - Record of Completion and associated coachingdocumentation will be retained in the Candidates personnel file in the Installation / Rig office.

    A copy of the forms for Drilling Control Room Induction, Practical Operations Task Elements,Operator Skills Assessments and the Cyber Operator Confirmation - Record of Completion shouldthen be sent to the appropriate installation Training Co-ordinator, Technical Support Ltd, AberdeenOffice.
