Dee calibration in test beam

Last period of 2006, November

Heavy ions, so highest E ~ 100 GeV

Challenge To use existing H4 infrastructure

Goal Get maximum benefit for EE (and ES?)

Problem of OPAL frames

Dee frame is an enormous device 3,6 tonnes in weightWill exceed EB turntable weight limitUse it only to transfer Dee to H4, if at all

Dee backplate ~ 1.9 tonne with crystals

Mount Dee on plinth on the H4 turntableDee backplate angled to beam with appropriate support struts

Need FEA to check Dee rigidity

Benefits of the proposed siting of Dee on turntable

Vertical rotation - in 2004, SCs moved in an arc – difficult to follow- 2005 scheme SCs move ~vertically- unfortunately radius of rotation only ~ 1m

Horizontal rotation - in 2004 adjacent SCs were not horizontal after rotations in the vertical - 2005 scheme, a better x-y grid of xtal positions for data taking/analysis

H4 turntable constraints
