Simple Pliers
Advantages:-very durable-requires little technical skill-inexpensive
Disadvantages:-Bulky-Can require large amounts of force
The Simple Pliers design consists of a punch that attaches either side of the pliers. The oil filter is punctured by squeezing the pliers manually, and the oildrains out by means of a hose under the influence of gravity.

Band Wrench
The idea is to use a band type oil filter wrench to clamp on and punch a hole in an oil filter. A hose would be connected to the punch to drain the oil out then the wrench could be turned to loosen the filter.
Advantages:-Fits most filters-effective-inexpensive
Disadvantages:-Hard to fit in tight places-two hands required

Filterclamp
This design uses a band type oil filter wrench to hold the filter, while a screwingMechanism is used to insert the punch into the filter.
Advantages:-Lower force requirement-Punch depth adjustable by user-Adaptable to different sizes
Disadvantages:-Prone to fouling-Poor directionality-Operation is slow-Fairly complex manufacturing requirements

Cable Ratchet
The hole is punctured in the oil filter by means of tightening a cable with a ratchetsystem. The cable pulls on an arm that punches through the filter.
Advantages:-mechanical punch system-adjustable gripper for different orientations of filters
Disadvantages:-more complex and expensive-multiple moving parts

Ratchet Step
The clamp is tightened by squeezing the handle. The clamp tightens in small steps.Once the clamp is tight enough, the punch punctures the filter and the oil drains out.
Advantages:-mechanical punch system-requires less force than pliers
Disadvantages:-bulky, hard to fit in small places-ratchet mechanism could break or rust-poor directionality
