1.2 Bonding on retaining plate for interiormirror without rain sensor
1.2.1 Materials:♦ Glass-metal adhesive kit „D 000 703 A1“ (standard interior
mirror)
1.2.2 Tools:1 - Glass scraper (commercially available)
2 - Blade (commercially available)
– Remove retaining plate from mirror base.
– Remove PUR adhesive sealant from retaining plate using awire brush.
– Grind off the three spacer protrusions on bonding surface. Todo this, use sandpaper (360/400 grain) laid on flat surface.
– Keep sanded surface clean and free of grease.
– Scrape down PUR adhesive sealant and glass/paint primer down to ceramic layer on windscreen using glass scraper.
– Clean bonding area with adhesive remover D 002 000 10 or cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
WARNING
Do not damage ceramic coating. Scratches will remain per‐manently visible.
– Cut nylon mesh fabric exactly to size of retaining plate.
Note
Wear hand protection (rubber gloves).
– Apply adhesive evenly to retaining plate.
– Place nylon mesh fabric on retaining plate.
– Dab nylon mesh fabric with tube while applying further adhe‐sive.
Only 30 seconds are available from laying nylon mesh fabric onadhesive to pressing plate onto windscreen.
– Press retaining plate (do not use force) against windscreen for 15 seconds.
– Remove excess adhesive with a cloth.
Note
Interior mirror can be installed after 15 minutes.

1.3 Removing and installing interior mirrorwith rain and light sensor -G397-
Removing
– Switch off ignition.
– Press the cover, cable conduit, -1- slightly inwards at the sides,in the transitional area leading to the cover -2- and carefullypush in direction of moulded headliner.
– Slightly bend cover -2- outwards at the sides and pull down‐wards off mirror.
– Turn the interior mirror 20° anti-clockwise and take off the re‐taining plate.
– Separate connection.
Installing
– Connect connector.
– Fit interior mirror on retaining plate.
– Lock the interior mirror onto the retaining plate by turning itclockwise.
– Further installation is performed in the reverse order of re‐moval.
1.4 Bonding retaining plate for interior mirrorwith rain and light sensor -G397-
Note
♦ A retaining plate for the interior mirror, which was detached by the windscreen, must be reinstalled using repair procedure described.
♦ A new windscreen and new retaining plate is not required.
1.4.1 Preparing windscreen – All adhesive and primer residue must be removed from the
ceramic pre-coating.
– Clean adhesive surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
– Adhere to flash-off period of at least 10 minutes.
– Apply glass/paint primer D 009 200 02.
– Flash-off period up to bonding: minimum of 10 minutes tomaximum of 1 hour.
1.4.2 Preparing detached or new retainingplate
– Mechanically remove adhesive remains (applies only for amirror base which has become detached).
– Prepare adhesive surface by sanding down with wet fine em‐ery paper (800-1200 grade) until water does not run off surfaceto be bonded.
– Then clean with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

1.4.3 Bonding retaining plate – Apply 2K polyurethane adhesive D 180 KD2 A1 directly to
prepared and cleaned retaining plate bonding surface.
– Adhesive bead diameter: approx.. 2.5 … 3 mm.
– Press retaining plate into position on prepared windscreen im‐mediately after applying adhesive.
– Align retaining plate in position on ceramic pre-coat surfaceand secure with adhesive tape.
1.4.4 Cleaning and removing excessive ad‐hesive
– 0,5 ... After 1 hour of attaching retaining plate, carefully removeadhesive tape.
– Remove excessive and still soft adhesive from around mirror base using a spatula.
– Moisten a cloth or a primer applicator with cleaning solutionand then remove all excessive adhesive thoroughly.
1.4.5 Installing rain sensor and mirror – Mirror can be fitted 2.5 hours after attaching retaining plate.
1.5 Removing and installing interior mirrorwith rain and light sensor -G397- andlight sensor -G399-
Removing
– Switch off ignition.
– Press the cover, cable conduit, -1- slightly inwards at the sides,in the transitional area leading to the cover -2- and carefullypush in direction of moulded headliner.
– Slightly bend cover -2- outwards at the sides and pull down‐wards off mirror.

2.5 Loosening and securing Highline centreconsole
Note
It is not necessary to remove centre console in order to remove dash panel. All that is required is for the centre console to be loosened and pushed back.
2.5.1 Releasing – Switch off ignition.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
– Detach gearstick boot from cover ⇒ Rep. gr. 37 .
Vehicles with manual or dual clutch gearbox
– Detach gearstick boot from cover ⇒ Rep. gr. 34 .

– Remove centre cover ⇒ page 29 .
– Release gearstick insulation -3- from centre console (only ve‐hicles with a gearstick).
– Remove the two screws -2- (1.5 Nm).
– Release ashtray unit -1- from centre console and disconnectwiring harness (dependent on vehicle equipment).
Note
A storage compartment may be installed instead of an ashtray -1-, but removal is identical.
– Remove bolt -1- (1.5 Nm) from both sides of centre console.
– Removal of left trim in footwell -2- is not necessary.
– Removal of right trim in footwell is also superfluous.

When securing the centre console, ensure that the footwell trim -2- engages in the mounting -3-.

Removing
– Switch off ignition.

– Pull lower section of trim -1- out of mountings -arrow-.
– Take upper section of trim out of mountings in centre console.
– Pull connector -2- from socket -3-.
Installing
– Attach connector -2- to socket -3-.
– Push trim -1- underneath armrest at an angle of 40°.
– Clip trim on in 4 places.
