Germany From my research I can suggest an idea of what Germany will be like in 2051. My idea is that a place called the Solarsiedlung (Solar settlement) in Germany develops and becomes the new capital of Germany. Berlin consequently becomes an abandoned city. I then had to figure out a way to display my idea. This came in the form of postcards. I decided to make a series of postcards using the correct postcard size, 5”x3.5”. This would be a series of 4-6 postcards with some representing how Germnay could potentially look in the year 2051 and the others would show how the Solarsiedlung would have developed. Tom Bryant Die Solarsiedlung The Solarseidlung (Solar settlement) is located near Freiberg in the South West corner of Germany. It is a small settlment of solar powered buildings. All of the homes are PlusEnergy homes, which produce more energy than they consume. It was built by built by Rolf Disch, a solar architect. (Image below) Further Research I began by looking at places of interest in Germany. I then looked at German typography and some interesting technological develpments in Germany such as the Robot restaurant and the supermarket of the future. I found it might be useful to take a brief look at other renewable energy sources and found some interesting articles. The renewable energy sources included, hydropower , geothermal, wind energy, solar power , biomass power and nuclear power . (Images right) DAAD Germany Additional Idea Solarsiedlung homes produce more Energy than they consume therefor if the vast majority of German homes were PlusEnergy homes Germany would have in effect extra energy at its disposal. This presents the possibility of selling some of this left over energy to neighboring EU countries. Development Below are some photographs that I took as part of an initial idea of how to represent Germany. Some of the first developments exploring how Berlin will look in 2051, as a ghost town. PostcardsThe final postcard designs, 3 showing the development of the Solarsiedlung and 2 showing the outcome of Berlin.

On the back of four of the postcards there is a small paragraph of information explaining a positive point of the Solarsiedlung. On the back of one of the Berlin postcards it describes the idea itself.
