Shame to see this comment section being filled with a lot of pretentioushipsters whining about this album who clearly have their ears turned off.

Tygolar4.

Truly awful and poor, totally disapointing. It was very frustating, I used tolove Daft Punk.

Otiel5.

You haven't listened much music in the last 10 years, then. This album isreally mainstrean, they just play safe. Not a dire album, but not amasterpiece either.

Nuadador6.

Are you insane? This is one of the best albums made in the last 10 years.

Anarus7.

It's strange that after the popularity this album gathered there are so fewactual reviews of it. With some distance already, well, you must know thatDaft Punk never invented anything: they are just making things

Page 9: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

fashionable. They were not the first with the sample-heavy kind of house, but they have among the best tracks of its kind, and they were not thefirst sounding 70s in "Discovery", but very few dared to enter theSupertramp keyboards like they did in "Digital Love". So it was and wasn'tsurprising how this album embraced the 70s progressive and aor-likemusic, music from people that wanted to mix everything and wanted tomake it epic, and above it all, the shadow of Alan Parsons Project (say "IRobot", say "Pyramid", say "Eye") in most of the tracks. It is uneven? Well, maybe. To me it is very bold to put a ballad just in the second track, adowntempo kind of sequel to "Something About us", but I accept it. TheMoroder rant in "Giorgio By Moroder" is a bit annoying, and the excessesin "Motherboard" and "Beyond" are, yes, a bit excessive. But, but, "Loseyourself to dance" is wonderful with that canon of vocoders that I wish itnever ended, "Touch" is wonderfully epic and broadway as it should be,and "Fragments of time", sang by Todd Edwards, is to me the best song ofthe album, a deceptively simple variation of "What a fool believes" thatalso recalls Donald Fagen and...You got it. Nostalgia all around. It is verystrange that the people that were behind the most beloved indie-electronica acts in festivals went directly into the music they barely couldlisten when they were children. Again, in my opinion this was great, despite the over exposition, despite the over popularity of Pharrell afterthis one (which actually is not much of a problem), and thanks to it NileRodgers was globally recognize as the important piece in dance history heis. And maybe I am old, but I like this.

Kare8.

This is one of the most overrated albums in the whole history of recordedmusic, I think... It's not that great or original as many people pretend.

Chuynopana9.

Masterpiece? Where? Lol, they just use many tricks and sounds that werein vogue during the late 70s and early 80s. Nothing really new here.

Page 10: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

Mot10.

I have that soundtrack. Perhaps one good track there. Next to that, "RAM"is a masterpiece.

Uafrmaine11.

truth. lets all listen to the irreversible soundtrack.

Ance12.

I can certainly understand how long-time Daft Punk fans can find this newalbum totally different from their previous efforts, but I personally havefound RAM to be somewhat very enjoyable.Anybody that knows me knowsthat I am a total "metalhead" but have always (secretly) enjoyed Housemusic ('The Prodigy' especially) and I am somewhat familiar with DaftPunk's earliest efforts. I grew up in the late 70s, all of the 80s, andsurvived Grunge in the 90s...so this type of music is deep in my DNA. Iremember the Disco days very well.I have only bought a handful of "pop"albums, and this is my latest one. I had never heard of Pharrel previous tothis album, but I think that he has a great voice. He reminds me somewhatof Justin Timberlake. In fact, my favorite song on this album is "LostYourself To Dance". I specifically bought this album just for that one song, but then I listened to the rest of it and can safely say that I enjoyed thewhole thing.Just one final note--you have to allow artists to grow and trydifferent things. We shouldn't expect them to re-release the same musicover and over again as they start to have the same problem that bandssuch as AC/DC and Obituary have--all of their albums start to sound thesame and people lose interest.I don't have any regrets in purchasing thisalbum, it's something that I will play a lot, in my car, on my home stereo,

Page 11: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

and on my portable music player.

Daigami13.

I started off life as a metal head too, but prodigy 'house music'. They'refucking hardcore music, worlds apart from house, even to the weekendfan.

Ynonno14.

I hate to sound like a party-pooper, but I'll never understand the appeal ofGet Lucky, let alone the entirety of the songs on this album. I'm probablythe minority here, but every single song is not even remotely catchy to myears. Everything just feels so run-of-the-mill and bland; I respect theFrench Duo of rewinding the clocks and relying on vintage sound to bringback to life, but it all comes off very sub-standard and mediocre. When Ilisten to the album, it makes me realize that sometimes certain clocksshouldn't be rewound, as they say, don't fix something that isn't broken. This is especially the case of Daft Punk. Nothing feels original about thisalbum, it tries to emulate itself off of something that isn't really them inessence. It just seems like Daft Punk decided to squeeze every ounce oflate 70's rock Nostalgia into this album w/o really focusing on theoriginality or substantial, compositional methods unlike Homework, andDiscovery. I would very much have another Daft Punk album that retainswhat the French duo are really about: thumping the dance-floor androlling 4/4 rhythms. House is their comfort zone, as with sampling. Whenyou combine their natural pallet and ear for sampling combined with theirsongwriting chieftain it all just plays out smoothly and naturally. WithRAM, Daft Punk are just reaching out of their comfort zone to grabsomething that isn't truly theirs at heart. It just feels so unnatural andtries to hard. It's not a bad album, on a technical level. But it really offersnothing in return to seasoned House listeners and older gen' fans of DaftPunk. When I think of RAM, I think of just bland and 'been there, donethat 30 years ago'. I have hope, though, that someday they'll return backto their roots and blow this album out of the water.

Xisyaco15.

I have to agree that the sound feels very bland in this album. I personallylike "Get Lucky" very much and it is a catchy song, but the rest besides"Give Life Back To Music" do not stand out. I do not think Daft Punk'smission with this album was to push boundaries, but to rather bring arefreshing sound to what the music scene is right now. I love their musicand all aspects of their career (image, performances, etc) but they are notthe first to make old music sound new, except they are well established inthe music industry. I wished they had made the album a little more "Nu-disco".

I’m one of those people who insists that if you enjoy any music, then by allmeans buy it, play it, and dance to it with reckless abandon, allowing it toplaster a mile wide smile across your face. And with that in mind, let mesay that I’ve lived through disco, danced to K.C. & The Sunshine Band, warmed my feet at the electronic fire of Devo, shivered with delight at theTubes, and was a subscribing member of the Max Headroom fan club. Butthat was then, this is now, proving that “What goes around, comesaround.” To my way of thinking, there's no way to justify or understandthe Robots and Sony Records spending an unsightly $1,500,000.00 [that’s1.5 million dollars U.S.], or even consider the number of people whowould be needed to purchase this release just to recoup those costs.Random Access Denied is about the hype, the hype of only allowingreviewers to hear it once [and on provided equipment], hype from the fiveyears and three cities it took to bring this product [and make no mistake, this is product] to the public, to the bizarre on again off again protectiverelease date, and as always, it got leaked ... though with all the care takennot to leak this album, one can only assume it was released for a purpose, with that purpose being that the leakage was not complete, and onlyhearing the album as a purchased product could you treat your ears to theslick weirdness and other-worldly orgasmic qualities making this the“Must Have” album of the year. Now ... there are those who’ve said exactlythis: "Within seconds, the record stands out as a more homogenized andsleek listening experience than its predecessor, 2005′s scattershot HumanAfter All. Yet it’s also marked by a playful whimsy that falls short ofmeasuring up to the variety that pulsed through 2001′s Discovery, or thegroundbreaking dance exploration found within their fabled 1997 debut,Homework. Instead, Daft Punk cuts ties with itself on RAM by exploringthe past through some of the best and boldest collaborative efforts inrecent memory." And that’s a pretty bold statement, with many reviewersand fans feeling the same way. But Daft Punk have given us nothing new,it would be unfair to say they own or invented this sound, one where thevocoder is not an effect, but an instrument, onto which short mantra likelyrics have been laid, making me feel like I’m watching a lost episode ofthe Muppets ... and at best going on much too long. Yes, the music does

stretch out to encompass other directions, genres, and fashions, but italways loops back to being Daft Punk, nothing more, nothing less ...creating summertime euphoric moments of dance laced grooves that willmake you giggle, make you cry, and swirl you around, leaving you towonder if the ecstasy has kicked in yet.Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve gottago watch The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink again, just so that I canremember how silly I looked dancing to such artificial bliss.

I'm disappointed with Random Access Memories. Not because it lacksanything music-wise; the composition, production, and arrangement ondisplay within the album is masterful. I'm disappointed because Daft Punkpromised me a party, but forgot to send me an invitation. The album looksinwards, celebrating the past and itself, leaving me gawking from theoutside and longing for a way in. I probably wouldn't be disappointed if itweren't for Homework and Discovery, two albums that brought me alongfor an incredibly funky ride. RAM is musically sound, but it lacks directionand soul. The first track that stood out to me is "Giorgio By Moroder". It's abeautifully crafted track that incorporates Giorgio's monologue over aplayful, musical documentary of a song that changes with the story, swelling into a disco-house-orchestral explosion at its climax, thendevolving into a modern dance bass line. Yet my experience was slightlydiminished after reading the following: "The recording engineer laterrevealed that each microphone was used to represent the differentdecades contained in Moroder's life monologue and stated that, whilemost listeners would not be able to distinguish between each microphone,Daft Punk would know the difference." Usually I enjoy little easter eggslike this, but this one just seems kind of random and narcissistic. Likethey're making the songs for only themselves. I still really love the trackbut this will always bother me."Touch" is the focal point of the album. Itfeatures Paul Williams lamenting the fact that music sucks nowadays overa behemoth of different sounds, including a meandering trumpet-tuba-clarinet passage, a full-on women's choir, an orchestra for rent, and apianist who alternates between western saloon and concert hall virtuoso. It's an amazing piece of work to be sure, and it is an extremely effectivedemonstration of the possible integration between digital (synth, vocoders) and analog (strings, winds, voices). Yet I can't help but feel likethe robots are celebrating themselves a) for being able to pull together allthese instruments and ideas both skill and money-wise and b) for beingdifferent from the garbage on the radio by fusing elements of jazz, funk,

Page 15: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

and classical music into their electronic music. Yes, I get it, that's why Ilove you Daft Punk! You don't need to tell me music today sucks, just keepshowing me that you're different without being self conscious. Take apage from Giorgio or Daft Punk circa 2001 and bring us the future ofelectronic funk.I guess that's not the point of this album. Much like thisreview, RAM is a critique of the modern state of music combined with alonging/reverence for the past. Yet it just doesn't move me. In the song"Within," the robots fail to connect on a deeper level: "There are so manythings that I don't understand/ There's a world within me that I cannotexplain" - come on man. "Digital Love," "Something About Us," "Face toFace," and "Too Long," weren't exactly shakespearean epics, but theselyrics are just bland and uninspired. "Game of Love" isn't much better -"There is a game of love/ This is a game of love/ And it was you...the onethat would be breaking my heart/ When you decided to walk away."Sometimes a singer's voice can convey the emotion much better than thewords she sings; unfortunately for us, we get a vocoded robot trying tostir emotions with these pithy lines."Instant Crush" and "Doin' it Right"could be my favorite tracks on the album along with "Giorgio ByMoroder". Julian Casablancas of the Strokes does a great job ofcommunicating even through his vocoder, and Panda Bear adds a muchneeded element of human to the end of the album. Pharrell Williams triesto sing with the soul and emotion of 70's and 80's soul over groovy if notrepetitive Nile Rogers licks, but it's missing energy and feeling and comesoff thin and strained. Good music is supposed to move you, physicallyand/or emotionally, and RAM fails this test on many occasions. It's notsomething I would groove to at parties, and it's not something I wouldconnect with alone.Another small gripe is the lack of flow. Almost everysong on the album is a self-containing story. The transition from onesweeping epic to the next is minimal. Each song is a complete thoughtwithin itself. This makes for a grating, tiring experience. Like readingthese sentences. It's hard to understand how the thoughts are connected. Not every song on the album has to be a masterpiece, damnit! There canbe no mountains without valleys, and I'm not sure which tracks are whichin Random Access Memories. To sum it up: "Daft Punk felt that whilecurrent technology allows for an unlimited capacity to store recordedmaterial, the content produced by contemporary artists has diminished inquality. Their goal was therefore to maximize the potential of infinitestorage by recording a sprawling amount of elements. The duo pointed tothe process as being further inspiration for the album's title, as theysought to make connections out of the random series of ideas." You don'tmake a well-crafted story out of a series of random ideas and elements. You can polish every little gem as much as you want, but you can't justglue them all together and call it a chandelier. Daft Punk has arrangedeach jewel in a big, beautiful case for people to admire, but they will gountouched and, ultimately, forgotten.http://keepinmusicclassy.com

So I have sat back and let the shitstorm play out here on Discogs. With anunbiased, objective mindset I finally tackled this album (on Spotify, noless). Frankly, I am absolutely amazed at how much criticism exists, givenhow much of a forward leap this is from the questionable sound found onHUMAN AFTER ALL. This is a pop album, hence the liberal use of guitars, pianos, strings, and vocals. If you evaluate it in that context, I can't imagehow you could possibly be disappointed. This is extremely impressive, asits the first time - scratch that, second time after Tron - that Daft Punk hascreated music not based on the standard 4/4 house template. It's amaturation in their sound that we should not only appreciate, butwelcome.

Dont_Wory22.

Daft Punk's fourth artist album is finally here (the TRON soundtrack doesnot count) and it is certainly true to what they had mentioned in initialmedia briefings - a collection of retro themed disco tracks. While not one'sstandard fix of electro, Daft Punk have managed to release a good album, with some nice tracks such as "Get Lucky", "Giorgio By Moroder", "Doin'It Right" and "Contact" (nice way to finish off the album).Overall, its notmy favorite album of theirs but its a welcome change from 'Human AfterAll'. Anyone expecting fast tracks or robotic electro will probably bedisappointed with this album.

Sti23.

The most sophisticated release from Daft Punk. They got all of the majorplayers in the business to reconstruct the 2013 Disco Sound and the hit of

Page 17: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

the summer "Get Lucky". I think they have very well achieved thatgoal.Nile Rogers guitar has still the same effect, maybe some of us theystill love to hear it and we will never get tired of it.. Don't forget tomention Paul Jackson Jr., Nathan East and Omar Hakim, together theymust have played in thousand and thousand of album; monster jazzmusicians. This show how Daft Punk strived to search for the perfectsound/samples for their Random Access Memory. This is not like crudesampling like Discovery and Homework albums. At the same time they stillmanaged to keep their trademark vibe. This CD is pop/dance but it is verywell done and pleasure for the ears. Thanks Guy-Manuel & Thomas.I likeit.****

Daft Punk, please go away and listen to "Rollin and Scratchin" on loopuntil your heads hurt. Then do the same with "Da Funk". Then with"Phoenix". Then get your vocalists and collaborators back together andmake us something with a bit more bite.

Painshade25.

please don't say vinyl quality is good. on the second listening there's veryaudible cracking noise, which goes well with the overall vintage tone ofthe album but is NOT a sign of particularly good vinyl.

ARE26.

Their new single, Get Lucky, was enough for me to research their recentwork after their letdown "humans after all". At first i thought "they are

Page 18: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

back" after the 2nd playthrough much of it seems forgettable now. Andsome tracks are just horrible. I'm looking at you, opening track andspecifically "loose yourself to dance". what sticks out are "instant crush"and the already mentioned "get lucky".The mayority of the instrumentalbuild ups remind me of the last album of the famous "Art of Noise" - whileit can be entertaining if you give it a chance it's way to cheesy for mepersonally to be taken serious.

The metamorphosis is complete. Once comprised of 2 hairy Frenchmenproducing slamming house music, Daft punk have become a full-timerobotic outfit making disco soul. The music sounds like it's written bymachines, but the Tin Man has got a heart. If music has the potential tomake you smile, it can't be bad. And this, at the moment, is the oneelectronic album I can sit down and watch a sunset to and just relax.

After second listening I can tell: 1/5 is too much. Poor songs good forpeople listening to music from radio and tv. Bad hype and mainstream.

Few nice tracks, but nothing spectacular. I prefer to listen to Chic. TheGame of Love and Within are awful... I hate this vocoder.

I fell in love with these guys when i first saw that awesome "Around TheWorld" music video on MTV. And what a nice tune it had! But now were2013 and here's there new album coming out and i have to say it it's goodbut also has a few flaws. We all remember more danceable tracks but nowi've seem to Get Lucky if i only find one anymore on this album.1 - GiveLife Back To Music Is the opening track and i have to say it's quite good, nice melodies good enough for a dance, and it's not a boring track tolisten to.2 - The Game Of Love 2nd track of the album and this has to bethe slowest track of the album it's not bad but not good either. It lackssomething, can't get my finger on it though.3 - Giorgio ByMoroderTogether with Giorgio Moroder they created something fresh yetunique. Some good beats and it's uptempo music I have to say it's on ofmy favorites on this album for now.4 - Within Not a standard Daft Punktrack it is a bit of a sad song now i come to think of it. With someprogrammed vocals through the track, it quickly starts to bore andstarting to search the skip button.5 - Instant CrushBit more melodiesagain, and a bit more uptempo and i have to say after a listen or two itgrows a bit on you.6 - Lose Yourself To DanceFirst track with Pharrell

Page 20: Daft Punk Random Access Memories mp3, flac, wma · Get Lucky Bass – Nathan EastDrums – Omar HakimGuitar – Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr.Keyboards – Chris Caswell Synthesizer

Williams on vocal duty and he's doing an excellent job. Better then "GetLucky" in my opinion.7 - TouchA lot variation in this track we hear PaulWilliams on vocals a few quiet parts in the beginning middle some moreuptempo then back to some slowly melodies. Not my favorite probably myleast track of the album.8 - Get LuckyMost over hyped radio track ever, and yet it's the most uptempo track of the whole album. Won't go in detailof it much everyone now's this one.9 - BeyondIt's beyond me what i hear.A bit boring here and there but overall i keep it playing so it must be goodat least!10 - MotherboardHmm, bit more boreness...11 - Fragments OfTimeAn other cooperation with Todd Edwards on vocal duty this time. Notsomething i'm used to from Daft Punk, don't like it as much a bit poppy.12- Doin' It RightHmm, bit to soft for my taste. Won't say it's bad but it's notso good.13 - ContactIt starts with commentary from Apollo 13 then after awhile it gets getting better, better, and a lot better. One of myfavorites.Overall:A real Daft Punk fan will most likely buy it anyway. If youwant some soft poppy songs and have a taste in electronic music you'lllove it most of it. However 50% of the album you want to search adanceable track i suggest putting "Homework" or "Discovery" on. It's nota typical Daft Punk release from the good old 90's. If your looking foradvice on buying it, give it a listen first and decide for yourself.I give it a3.5/5.

Cashoutmaster33.

Of course its not a typical Daft Punk release from the good old 90s... It's2013! Times change, music changes, my friend.

Jerdodov34.

The real gentle pop music of the late 70s and early 80s, recorded today. This is an amazing concept album. The modular synths and vocoders are aHi-Fi delight, especially because they are recorded in a "very fitting" (inmy opinion best) production environment and doing what they wherebuild for: Magic. In this case; soft pop songs for your dreams. If you can'tappreciate gentle warm real analogue sound maybe you should go to your

Daft Punk bring house back to an era of disco/funk long lost in the 1970's.Trading off their signature brand of seizure inducing mashup electro, perfected throughout the 2000's, DP give it's fans a history lesson. Manywill find this album falling flat of their expectations, but disco house istimeless music and those searching for a ketamine/MDMA fueled electrobuzz will find nothing of that sort here. Synth arpeggios counterpoint alive band whom the duo no doubt meticulously cultivated. The albumsounds as if it were played live, by a live band, on live instruments.Electronic music of this musicianship is unseen in this age. Whether or notthe music on Random Access Memories stands the test of time is to beseen, but they deserve an A for effort. They made what sounds like atribute to Giorgio Moroder's "Baby Blue", and nothing like theelectrobangfest they had become, thereby alienating the uneducated massof teenage fans that had become baggage on their image.

Where plenty of artist these days are practicing the Daft Punk soundsfrom the past, they themselves move on. A new, more mellow sound thanbefore, with low, well-timed dosing of their trademark vocoder sound. Onthis album, they created real "pop" music, rooted deep in the late 70's and80's. I personally enjoy this sound and like the funkyness and thesongwriting. For noisy gimmick sawtooth "EDM" with annoying autotuneeffects, check the charts please.
