• On March 30, rains, hail & high winds impacted cities of Hidalgo (Pop 11,000),
Pharr (Pop 70,000) & Mission (Pop 77,000) in Hidalgo County, TX
• Wind speeds up to 74 mph
• Unconfirmed tornado near McAllen-Miller International Airport & City of Pharr
• Large hail reportedly covered ground 6” deep
• Several fires throughout county
• Initial damage assessments of 1,057 homes, 72 businesses & 12 government
facilities with hail & wind damage (TDEM State SITREP March 31)
Response
• Minimal power outages remain (AEP Texas as of 6:00 p.m. EDT, Mar 31, 2012)
• Two school districts (Sharyland & McAllen) remain closed; damages may delay
opening Monday
