Moneylicious Morning
Good Morning & Welcome to Thursday's trading action at Dalal
Street, dated 28th March 2019.
Worry Is Back As Uncertainty Is Everywhere!
That brings us to our call of the day which recommends investors to brace
for volatility as sentiments grapple with the implications of an economic
slowdown. ALso denting investors' sentiments this Thursday are:
1. Implications of falling bond yields. There is chaos and ambiguity
whether the recent U.S inversion of the yield curve is a bad omen for
global economy.
2. Increasingly dovish central banks.
3. Fresh evidence of slowing global growth.
4. The Brexit in the U.K. A disorderly exit from the EU by Britain could
unsettle global benchmarks, market participants fear.
5. As per provisional data, Domestic institutional investors have been net
sellers in March to the tune of Rs 13574.42 crore.
6. Lastly, as the benchmarks have moved up — so have the risk.
Amidst this backdrop, investors will need to prepare for a bumpy road ahead.
But the good news for our stock markets is that Federal Reserve is unlikely to
be raise interest rates anytime soon.
The street's consensus is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come back
to power after the upcoming general elections. Amidst this backdrop, the big
FII's have been supportive. According to depository data, foreign investors
pumped in a net sum of Rs 28,863 crore in equities in March 2019.
The recent spectacular rally in Banking stocks are indicating that RBI may opt
for a follow-up rate cut in the upcoming April 4th meeting. Benign inflation
and slowing industrial growth bodes to expectations that the RBI could again
cut the key interest rate.
Supporting a rate cut argument would be the recent u-turn by both the US
Fed and the European Central Bank and most importantly, at a time when
there are warnings of warning of slowing global growth.
But we suspect, the icing on the cake could be a U.S.- China trade truce that
resolves the ongoing tense trade dispute! So, all eyes will be on the high-level
U.S. and China trade talks that will resume on Thursday in Beijing!
So the theme for the day and in near term will be centered around the trade
negotiations between Beijing and Washington that is scheduled to kick off
today, with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury
Secretary Steven Mnuchin to help complete long-running discussions
between the world’s largest economies.

GLOBAL CUES:
• In Wednesday's trade at Wall Street, most of the stocks were trading decisively lower amidst the Brexit situation in
Europe and recession worries after the yield curve inverted kept a section of investors on sidelines.
Scaring investors the most is the yield on 3-month U.S Treasuries that rose above the rate on 10-year Treasuries for the
first time since 2007.
A narrowing spread is typically seen as sign that long-term economic confidence is dwindling. Having said that a partial
yield curve inversion doesn't mean a recession will strike immediately.
POLITICAL CUES:
• The street is also quite optimistic that Narendra Modi-led government will come back to power after the general
elections 2019. Optimists appear to be betting that Modi’s re-election will boost investment activity in sectors such as
construction and infrastructure.
MACRO CUES:
• As per International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, India has been one of the fastest growing large economies in the
world. IMF communications director Gerry Rice reportedly said India has of course been one of the world's fastest
growing large economies of late, with growth averaging about 7% over the past five years.
• The biggest theme for this week would be US-China trade truce that remains an issue. Well, as per media reports, the
said meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping may not happen until June 2019.
COMMODITY CUES:
• GOLD ($1319): Support now seen 1299-1303 zone. Major intermonth hurdles now seen at 1368. Interweek Strategy:
Buy between 1305-1311 zone, targeting 1323 and then at 1359-1368 zone with stop below 1293.
• WTI CRUDE-OIL (59.09): Bias shifts to neutral. Key support now at 58.25 zone. Hurdles at 60.45. Interweek strategy:
Establish sell positions between 60-60.45 zone, targeting 58..25 zone and then at 55 with strict stop at 61.45.
• MCX COPPER (437): Interweek strategy: Establish short positions between 446-449 zone, targeting 425-427 zone and
then aggressive targets at 401-411 zone with stop at 463.
CURRENCIES & BONDS:
• In Wednesday's trade, the Indian Rupee depreciated by 2 paise against the dollar to close at 68.88.
The key positive catalysts in favor of the Indian Rupee: Strong dollar inflows and weakness in the greenback overseas.
Technically, USD/INR faces major hurdles at 70.45. Major strength seen only above 70.45. Interweek Strategy:
Aggressive traders can look to buy at CMP, targeting 70.05 and then 70.45. Stop 67.50.
