Informational Meeting about Assumption’s Sister School in Cambodia And 2015 Trip Discussion

Did you know that Assumption Catholic School has a sister school in Cambodia? The Bellingham Community School #253 is a middle school serving the rural tribal community of Phnom Dek in Preah Vihear Province. Students from Assumption have been learning about Cambodia, its culture and people, and have been raising money for the students and the school since 2006. Assumption and the greater commu-nity of Bellingham have sent delegations of teachers, students, and parents to the school in Cambo-dia in 2006 and again in 2011. It’s time to plan for another visit to the school in the fall or winter of 2015-16. If you are interested in this life-changing international experience, or would like to become involved in some way, please join us for an informational meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7pm at Assumption school room 312. At the meeting, we will briefly discuss the history of the school, our continuing connections and commitments, and then talk about future travel plans. Please RSVP to Jill VonFeldt, [email protected] or Betsy Gottschalk, [email protected] so we will know to expect you. Feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions or if you are not able to make the meeting but are still interested in our mission.

As the days and nights turn darker, wetter, and colder in Whatcom County, Interfaith Coalition is prepar-ing to open our two Severe Weather Shelters. The shelters, for women and children at Garden St. United Methodist Church, and for men at our new location, the Lighthouse Mission Drop-In Center, rely on vol-unteers like you to provide a welcoming and safe place for the many homeless people here with nowhere to go. Please join us at one of our upcoming trainings.

Even if you can only volunteer a few times, even if you are a longtime volunteer, even if you just want to know more about the Severe Weather Shelters, plan to attend. For more information, please call Interfaith at 734-3983.

And the giving thanks goes on!!! A huge thank you to the school families and staff for the success-ful Human Food Chain. Another huge thank you to all of those who brought food to the Thanksgiving Mass—

blessings to this incredibly generous parish. You over-whelm me with your faith and compassion. We are in full Christmas mode at Hope House and need all the space we can get for gifts, decorations and WARM hats, gloves and coats. Therefore, we are halting temporarily the acceptance of used clothing and toys. Unless the clothing or toys are new, please save them for after Christmas. We are only accepting the following: new clothing, new toys, holiday decorations, food, hygiene supplies and warm out-erwear and blankets. Blessings, Cheri

A Stewardship Moment John the Baptist’s call to repentance is echoed in the U.S. bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship: “Christians must beg God for the grace of conversion: the grace to know who they are, to whom they belong, how they are to live — the grace to repent and change and grow, the grace to become good disciples and stewards.”

FAITHFUL STEWARDS OF THE WEEK

Tom & Wendy Donaghy, Angels of Music Concert On Saturday, Nov. 22, under the vision and fortitude of Tom & Wendy, the talented and dedicated members of Assumption Women’s Schola Viva, as well as some special musical guests, provided our parish community with a third straight concert of wonderful singing

and musicianship. Along with the support of the Knights of Columbus, Schola Viva planned and performed this evening all for the benefit of Assumption School and Parish buildings restoration and the charitable works of the Knights. The music had audience

members soaring with the angels!
