During the first 2 years of varsity play, the Keller Central Chargers won back to back District 7-4A Championships in 2005 and 2006 under the direction of Coach Maher. The Chargers advanced both years into the playoffs reaching the Regional Quarter-Finals in 2006. Maher was also named "Coach of the Year" both 2005 and 2006. 2007 was the Charger's 3rd year of varsity play and the inaugural year in 5A. Coach Maher led the men into the the playoffs. In 2008 the Charger's placed 3rd in district play and won 5A Bi-District reaching the 5A Area-Finals. Coach Maher and his wife, Lori, have been married since 2002. They have a son, Blake Ryan (3 years old) and daughter, Ashlyn Marie (1 year old) and live in Keller, Texas. How was the Dallas Texans Red South team formed? Coach Maher started the north division for Fort Worth United approximately 4 years ago and has coached many of the current team members during that time. The team has played in the Plano youth league the past two years and has maintained most of its core players. Many of the current team members have been on the same team for over 5 years and the team has had a good deal of stability during that time. Coach Maher had the ability to transfer the team to the Dallas Texans and also take over their spot to compete in Division III of the Dallas Classic League beginning in the fall of 2010. In recent tournament play at the Cowtown Classic the team defeated a current Classic League team and took another Classic League DI team to the wire after leading at half time. The team also finished 1-2-3 at the recent Fort Worth Quick Foot tournament, again playing against teams currently playing in the Classic League. The team has a solid base of players who have shown the ability to compete at the Classic League level and needs to add approximately 5 skilled players to complete this years roster of 17. Open tryouts will be held from June 1st to June 30th. Practices are held Mondays and Thursdays at Keller Central High School from 5:45 - 7:15. Where will the Texans practice? As it has been the past four years the team will practice at the outstanding practice facilities at Keller Central High School located at 9450 Ray White Road in Fort Worth. The fields are located just east of the football stadium and continue to be in outstanding condition. The team trains on a synthetic turf field should weather conditions dictate moving off the grass. If you live in the northern Tarrant County area nothing could be more convenient. Interested in coming out and learning more?
