Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation. Prayer brings people together. Prayer builds bridges between opposing persons and even political parties. Prayer reminds us that we are created in God's image and He desires for us to represent Him everywhere we go. Prayer brings UNITY. In 2018, our theme will be Pray for America - UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, "Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Our hope is that individuals, churches, and spiritual leaders in America, will humble ourselves and unify in prevailing prayer for the next great move of God in America. We can come together in clear agreement that this is our greatest need. We can become a visible union, standing together in prayer. We can pray more than ever before, and practice extraordinary prayer for the next great move of God in America that will catapult the message of the gospel nationally and internationally. Pray with us. Together, we can mobilize unified public prayer for America! "There is no great movement of God that has ever occurred that does not begin with the extraordinary prayer of God's people." Dr. Ronnie Floyd National Teacher Appreciation Day, also known as National Teacher Day, is observed Tuesday, May 9th. This day is part of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is the first full week in May of each year. The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day “as a day for honor- ing teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.” Teachers play a critical role in educating and shaping our children: the future leaders of our country. They are kind, patient, hard-working, dedicated and understanding profes- sionals that mold our children’s lives in a positive direction. We entrust our children with the teachers, and they affect their lives on a daily basis. It is time to say “Thank You” to the exceptional teachers that you know. Let them know that they are appreciated for all that they do. Even if you don’t have a child in school, thank a teacher for his/her dedication to shaping our future leaders.

street without Jesus Christ in my heart. Within 24 hours later, I received several calls, texts and comments about my personal opinion. In my Bible, Mark 16:15, “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” I feel Christians need to be witnesses for Christ. We must not be ashamed of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is however, Important to know when to speak and when to be quiet. There is one sure way to testify about your faith without offending other people and that is to follow the example of Jesus Christ. His whole life was a testimony of commitment to his duty, sympathy, mercy and grace and Lord for all people, regardless of their rank or circumstances. This is the very best way to be a witness for Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you so that others will see Christ in everything you do and say. In this way, you will fulfill the command of the Lord. Just yesterday, in Matthew 25:31-44, I was reading about the time Jesus told when He will come back in great glory. He will sit on His throne. Angels will be around Him and all the nations of the world would be gathered together before Him. Then Jesus will pass judgment on each and every one. He will be like a shepherd gathering the sheep on one side and goats on the other. He will tell people who obeyed Him to come to His right side. He will tell people who did not love and obey Him to stand at the left. Then Jesus will say, “Come, you who love me. You have my Father’s blessing. Come, join with me in the Kingdom made for you. When I was hungry, you fed me. When I was thirsty, you gave me water. When I was a stranger, you invited me into your home. You gave me clothing when I needed it. You visited me in prison.” The people on the right will ask, “Lord, when did we see you in need and do this for you?” And Jesus will say, “Whenever you helped someone, you were helping me.”

Then Jesus will turn to those on His left. He will say, “Get out of my sight! You are being sent to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. When I was hungry, you would not feed me. When I was thirsty, you would not give me a drink. When I was a stranger, you would not do anything for me.” The people will say, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or sick or in prison and not help you?” Jesus will say, “When you did not give to the people who needed your help, it was the same as though you were treating me the same way. When you would not help others, you were not helping me.” Then all those who did not love the Lord and help others will be punished. They will be sent away. But the people who loved the Lord and obeyed Him will live with Him forever. I pray in the name of Jesus that you and your family are sitting on the right side! Help me Lord Jesus to let the Holy Spirit live through me in such a way that others may know of your love for them. Amen. God Bless, J.R. Dalton

Praise God! Recently I had the opportunity to be personally interviewed by a local news channel. My opening comment was that I felt that we all are walking in a very dark period in our lives, and that I personally would not walk across the

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

A special note from our kids at Amazing Grace. They are truly thankful for your support and love. They were asked

to draw you a note and here are a couple that were submitted. We at Dalton’s Food Pantry also thank you so

much for your love, support and prayers.

Every second Sunday in May, people around the nation celebrate Mother's Day by buying cards and showering their mom with a little extra love and attention (and maybe a gift or two). But while there's no question that the woman who raised us deserves our utmost gratitude and affection, there are actually deeper reasons as to why we celebrate Mother's Day — ones that date back more than 100 years in history.

It all started back in 1905, when Anna Jarvis began publicly campaigning to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States. Jarvis' efforts were inspired by her late mother, Ann Jarvis, a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War and had created Mother’s Day Work Clubs in order to address public health issues. Following her mom's death that same year, the younger Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing her work and working to create a day to celebrate moms everywhere. Though a proposal for the holiday was initially rejected by the U.S. Congress in 1908, the idea for Mother's Day quickly began to gain popularity and most states began celebrating it as a local holiday by 1911. Three years later, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation officially designating Mother's Day a national holiday. Of course, in the years since, the holiday has become quite commercialized, thanks to companies touting mom-specific gifts and cards. Jarvis, for her part, openly protested the day's commercialization prior to her death in 1948. She argued that people should appreciate and honor their mothers through handwritten letters expressing love and gratitude, rather than buying gifts, flowers, or pre-made cards. While the holiday may not be quite what she initially envisioned, there's no question that Jarvis' Mother's Day has become an important day of the year for families everywhere. Whether you celebrate it with a lovely handwritten letter (as Jarvis initially intended), flowers and a greeting card, or a nice brunch, what's most important is that you show your appreciation for the woman who has loved and cared for you for your entire life. After all, as Jarvis once said, no one in the world has done more for you than your mom.
