The Australia group is a convention signed by a certain number of countries against the export of

chemical products used as Chemical arm ingredients.

Product names given in this convention are not all IMDG regulated and no IMDG classification is given

for those that might be Australia Group regulated.

The reason why a Line can refuse this kind of cargo is not due to dangerous risks, but due to media and

operational reasons.

For these two reasons, Dangerous Good Department cannot be the specialist in charge of checking the

acceptance of such cargo. Agents will be fully responsible whether or not to load the cargo in

accordance with lines instructions. Dangerous Goods Departme

Following, is listed the Australia Group regulated cargo and possible connection with IMDG class,

This procedure is not valid for the Asian Continent where all forms of CARBON hazardous or not (UN1361 UN1362, charcoal from all origins) are still prohibited.

All forms of CARBON from animal or vegetable origin, CARBON from mineral origin, ACTIVATED CARBON, CHARCOAL, COKE, BLACK CARBON etc… must imperatively be declared as hazardous commodities in accordance with the IMDG Code (UN 1361 or 1362 class 4.2) even if a certificate of compliance to the Special Provision 925 of the IMDG Code is provided.

The DCO will check the compliance of the commodity with the SP925 and vet the bookings as follows:

- the booking (CMA CGM or partners) does not comply: it should be accepted under UN 1361 (CARBON animal or vegetable origin) or UN 1362 (CARBON, ACTIVATED) class 4.2 depending on the shipper declaration,

- the booking (CMA CGM or partners) complies: the CMA CGM Group agencies move the hazardous booking to non hazardous but containers must be clearly identified on the loading list for the ship planner as containing CARBON.

SPECIAL PROVISION 925

The provisions of this Code do not apply to:

- non-activated carbon blacks of mineral origin;

- a consignment of carbon if it passes the tests for self-heating substances as reflected in the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria (see 33.3.1.3.3), and is accompanied by a certificate from a laboratory accredited by the competent authority, stating that th

- carbons made by a steam activation process.

To comply with the provision 925, the shipper has to provide us the following certificate dully signed by the laboratory which carried out tests.
