Corporate Social Responsibility

Why CSR?Corporate Social Responsibility, i.e. the individual business incorporating social and environmental considerations into its strategy, has become an important issue on the development agenda. This has gathered special momentum since the United Nations launched the Global Compact principles for good business conduct in 2000, advocating the strengthening of human and workers’ rights, greater emphasis on environmental protection, and measures against corruption. This is also true for the Danida programme for Danish support to private sector development which has incorporated CSR as one of the instruments for business development.

What is the course about? The aim of the course is that after the course participants are: • competent in applying corporate social

responsibilty methods relevant to their enterprises and thereby achieve man-agement results that enhance progress in their fields of work

• capacitated to strategize, plan and implement corporate social responsibility interventions, considering the internal conditions and external contextual factors of the enterprise

• able to ensure that their enterprises’ corporate social responsibility policy is in alignment with the UN Global Compact’s 10 principles & UN Guiding Principles for Human Rights and Business

• equipped with tools for implementing, optimising and reporting the corporate performance

Who can participate? The course is intended to support and facilitate in particular Danida-Private Sector and Danida Business.

The course is especially designed for CEO Managers and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) managers at private enterprises.

Learning approachThe learning approach will be participatory and learner-centred. The training will be centred on state-of-the-art issues and approaches to corporate social responsibility and private sector development, combining theory and practice, and relating training contents to the participants’ enterprises.

Participants will be introduced to the Global Compact, which will serve as the frame for the course. Emphasis will be put on how CSR supports the role of SMEs in development and develops ways of linking business, social and environmental goals.

In addition to general CSR principles, the participants will receive target specific training and exercises taking into consideration their specific sectoral patterns so that tools provided are of direct use and relevance for the participants.

The training course on Corporate Social Responsibility is a 3-week course starting on 16th June 2014. It is financed by Danida Fellowship Programme.

The course is organised by Grontmij A/S and will be conducted at Grontmij s training facilities in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Course pre-assessmentParticipants will be asked to map their pre-course understanding of CSR by filling in online questionnaires. Furthermore, participants will be asked to share their company CSR policy, if they have one, and their specific interest in relation to visits to Danish enterprises. These will be used to tailor the course according to participants’ profile and to assess overall course progress.

CertificationUpon successful completion of the course, a course certificate will be issued.

Course feeThe course is fully funded (air travel, accommodation, allowance, study fee, and insurance) by the Danida supported Fellowship Programme.
