  • TANGO The reputation of the tango says it occurred in brothels in the late 1800s. Another theory is that the tango was already in poor areas of South America such as Argentina and Uruguay. When the more affluent historians visited brothels, it was then they first came in contact with the new dance form. Río de la Plata, a 290 km long bay of the Atlantic Ocean between Uruguay and Argentina. In this region, there were many immigrants, mostly men at the end of the 1800s. The men trained up their dancing skills among themselves before they had a chance to dance with women at the dance club called "Milonga". There were also special places, "Prácticas", where experienced and inexperienced male dancers met and watched, tried new steps, followed, and finally brought tango. Often they went to "Prácticas" a couple of hours every night before they went to the "Milonga" to dance with a woman. DANIEL BERG Daniel Berg is a versatile marimba soloist, composer and educator. He holds the position as the marimba and chamber teacher at Ljungskile Folk High School, University Colleges of Music in Örebro and Gothenburg (Sweden). He has made several CD-recordings like In a Landscape, Ricamo, Sound of Transparence and Rhythm Art Duo. In his passion to promote the marimba as a solo- and chamber music instrument, Daniel has worked intimately with a number of composers who have written original music for the instrument. This includes more than 100 world premiers for solo and chamber works. As a composer Daniel has written a couple of solo works for marimba like Over the Moon, December and Blue Memories. The pieces belong today to the standard marimba repertoire. His works are published at the Keyboard Percussion Publications (USA), Norsk Musikforlag AS (Norway) and Edition Svitzer (Denmark).
