SPECIAL HONOURS AND AWARDS
1992: United States Information Service, Textbook Research Award. This award was
advertised through the American Embassy in Nairobi. It was to give to undertake research in
the USA on textbooks preparation, especially in the context text books writing in the light of
the new 8-4-4 education system
1990: German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Award. The scholarship enabled to
study the “Dual Training programme in which students combine study and work in the
German TVET system. The study was based at Heidelberg University in Germany
1985: Council for Europe Scholarship, Swedish Institute,. The award which was to be
administered by the Swedish Institute was not taken up due to some pressing commitments
in the Department of Educational Foundations.
1983: Council for International Co-operation in Higher Education (CICHE),
Fellowship, This was a competitive award administered by the British Council which gave
an opportunity to study teacher education and the English primary school practice through
the Institute of Education, University of London.
1980 Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship,. This was a post-doctoral competitive award which
awarded following a successful completion of my Doctor of Philosophy in 1978. It
enabled me to study philosophical ideas behind student-centred learning and classroom
practice in the United States of America. It gave me opportunity to interact with leading
with leading young scholars from other parts of the World as well visiting some of the
best teacher education institutions in that country.
