How do I set up and install my Wireless Extender1: Plug the DAP-1520 into a wall outlet within wireless range of your router.

2: Open the wireless utility on your computer, select the name (SSID) of the DAP-1520 network, and enter the password (both of these are found on the included Wi-Fi Configuration Card).

3: Then open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in to the address bar. You can also use the IP address http://192.168.0.50.

4: The default username is Admin and the password is to be left blank. Click Login.

7: To set up your network manually, select the second option from the setup wizard menu. Click Next to continue

8: Select the wireless network that you wish to use as your uplink (source) from the list by clicking on it. Once you have selected the uplink network you wish to use, click Select.

9: Enter the password for your uplink network. Click Next to continue.

10: The DAP-1520 will re-broadcast the Wi-Fi connection from the uplink router as an extended Wi-Fi network. An SSID and password will automatically be generated for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. If you wish to change these settings, enter the SSID and password that you wish to apply to the extended Wi-Fi network(s). Click Next to continue

11: The setup process is now complete. A summary page will appear showing the settings for both the connection to the uplink router, and the extended Wi-Fi network. It is recommended that you make a record of this information for future reference. Click Save.

A green check mark between the Uplink Router and DAP-1520 icons indicates that there is a successful connection between the uplink router and DAP-1520.

How do I Change the Administrator Password on Wi-Fi Extender1: Open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in the address bar.

2: Enter your Admin Password in the field provided. If you have not changed the password from the default setting, the password field is to be left blank. Click Log In.

3: Move the cursor to Management at the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click Admin from the drop-down menu.

4: To change the Administrator password, enter a new password in the Admin Password field. If you wish to enable CAPTCHA graphical authentication, click on the slider to adjust the setting. CAPTCHA uses a challenge-response test in order to prevent unauthorized access using automated means.

5: Click Save to save the current configuration

3: Click the DAP-1520 Device icon. The device’s settings will be displayed below the network map. The password for each wireless band can be found under the Extended Wi-Fi section.

How do I Change the SSID/network name of the Extended Networks

1: Open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in the address bar.

2: Enter your Admin Password in the field provided. If you have not changed the password from the default setting, the password field is to be left blank. Click Log In.

3: Move the cursor to Settings in the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click Extended Wi-Fi from the drop-down menu.

4: Enter a new SSID in the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) field. This can be done separately for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and each band should have a different SSID.

5: Click Save to save your configuration.

How do I Change the Password for the Extended Networks

1: Open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in the address bar.

2: Enter your Admin Password in the field provided. If you have not changed the password from the default setting, the password field is to be left blank. Click Log In.

3: Move the cursor to Settings in the top right-hand corner of the page, then click Extended Wi-Fi from the drop-down menu.

4: You can specify a new password each wireless band in the Password field. Click Save once complete to save the current configuration.

How Do I Reset my Wi-Fi Extender to Factory Default Settings

Example: If you forget the password for you Wi-Fi Extender’s configuration interface, you can do a factory reset to return the settings to the factory defaults. Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all current settings, and this action cannot be undone. Method 1: With the unit on, use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button (located in a hole on the side of the unit) for 10 seconds. The LED will turn red to indicate that the unit is rebooting. Wait about 30 seconds to access the extender. The default IP address is http://dlinkap.local or htpp://192.168.50.

Method 2: From the main page of the configuration interface, move the cursor to Management at the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click System from the drop-down menu. Click the Restore Factory Defaults button. A warning notification will appear to confirm the factory reset. Click OK to continue.

Note: After factory default settings, there is no password to access the configuration interface. Leave the Password field blank.

How do I Upgrade the Firmware on my Wi-Fi ExtenderNote: Before beginning this procedure, ensure that the DAP-1520 is connected to an uplink router with an active Internet connection.

1: Open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in the address bar.

2: Enter your Admin Password in the field provided. If you have not changed the password from the default setting, the password field is to be left blank. Click Log In.

3: Move the cursor to Management at the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click Upgrade from the drop-down menu

4: Automatic Upgrade - Under Firmware Information, click Check for New Firmware. The device will check for new firmware versions. If a new firmware version is found, the details of the new firmware will be displayed. Click Upgrade Firmware to commence the upgrade process.  Manual Upgrade – Download the firmware file from your local D-Link technical support site. Under Upgrade Manually, click on the Select File button and locate the .bin firmware file you downloaded. Highlight the file by clicking on it once and then click Open. The name of the file will be displayed next to the Select File button.

5: Click Upload to commence the firmware upgrade process. It may take up to 30 seconds for the upgrade to complete.

6: The device will automatically restart once the firmware upgrade has been completed. You will need to log in again using your Administrator credentials.

How do I back up the Wi-Fi Extender’s configuration to my computer

1: Open a web browser and enter http://dlinkap.local in the address bar.

2: Enter your Admin Password in the field provided. If you have not changed the password from the default setting, the password field is to be left blank. Click Log In.

3: Move the cursor to Management at the top right-hand corner of the screen, then click System from the drop-down menu.

4: To save the current configuration settings of your wireless router to a file, click the Save Configuration to File button. Depending on your browser, the file may be automatically saved to your ‘Downloads’ folder, or a ‘Save File’ or similar dialog box will appear, asking you where you wish to save the file.

To load a previously saved configuration file, click Select File. Once you have located the configuration file (config_rpt.bin) on your hard drive, click OK. The name of the file will be displayed next to the Select File button. Click Restore Configuration from File. A confirmation dialogue will appear, click OK to commence the loading of the configuration.

Note: If you have upgraded or downgraded the firmware on your Wi-Fi Extender, do not load configuration files that were saved using a previous firmware version. The load will not be successful, and can damage the unit.

How do I connect my Wi-Fi enabled computer to my Wi-Fi ExtenderNote: The following instructions and screenshots are for Windows® 7. Other versions of Windows may have slightly different appearances. 1: Click on the network icon in the bottom right corner (next to the clock).

2: Select the wireless network you want to connect to and click Connect

3: If you have a Wi-Fi password (security key) configured on your extender, enter the password and click OK.

4: Select the Network Type.

5: Your computer is now connected. The computer should now automatically connect to this network when it is within range.

How do I connect my iPad to my Wi-Fi Extender

1: Tap the Settings icon on your iPad. 2: Open the Wi-Fi menu. If Wi-Fi is off, turn it on.

3: Select the wireless network you want to connect to by tapping the network name.

4: If you have a Wi-Fi password configured on your extender, enter the password and tap Join.

5: You are now connected to the wireless network.

6: Ensure that the iPad has received an IP address from the network. Tap the blue arrow next to the network name to bring up the network settings. An IP address will be displayed to indicate a successful connection.

How do I connect my iPhone to my Wi-Fi Extender1: Tap the Settings icon on the home screen of your iPhone.

2: Tap to open the Wi-Fi settings.
