Wake Early College of Health & Sciences• Magnet school focused on health and sciences.• Has partnership among the Wake County Public School System, Wake

Technical Community College, and WakeMed Health and Hospitals on the Wake Tech Health Sciences and Northern Campuses. • Provides rigorous 5 Year program on Wake Tech campuses for students

motivated students interested in health & sciences• Graduate with HS Diploma & Associates Degree, College Transfer Credit

and/or health certificates – FREE College courses

WAKE STEM Early College HS

• All courses embed the theme of science, technology, engineering, and math throughout the curriculum

• 1st 2 years: completing many credits required for a high school diploma• 3rd year: Students begin taking college courses• 4th & 5th years: students are primarily taking college level courses• Students earn college credit at NC State University upon successful completion of college

courses. • This college credit may be used at NC State University or transferred to another institution

(transfer credit acceptance is determined by the receiving institution).• While students are not automatically guaranteed admission to NC State University, it is our hope

that STEM ECHS graduates will be highly competitive for admission. • Students may choose to apply to any college or university upon graduation from the STEM ECHS program.

WAKE STEM Early College HS

• College credit earned at NC State University upon successful completion of college courses. • College credit may be used at NC State University or transferred to

another institution (transfer credit acceptance is determined by the receiving institution).• STEM ECHS graduates, not guaranteed admission to NC State University,

but are highly competitive for admission. • Students may choose to apply to any college or university upon graduation from

the STEM ECHS program.

Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy• Began in 2012 to provide educational opportunities for young women in

a rigorous single-gender academic program.

• Emphasizes leadership development, entrepreneurship, and community service.

• School serves approximately 50 students per grade level in grades 6 through 13.

Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy• A 6-13, single-gender, early college, leadership academy within the

Wake County Public School System. • Located on two campus, grades 6-10 are held in the Thompson School

Building in downtown Raleigh, NC and grades 11-13 are at Saint Augustine’s University located in the historic Oakwood neighborhood of Raleigh, NC. • Opened in the Fall of 2012 and currently serves approximately 100

students in the High School (9-10), and 100 in our Early College Program (11-12 currently with expansion to 11-13). • WYMLA strives to develop young men into leaders who have a positive

impact on their communities through Scholarship, Service, and Success.

Vernon Malone College & Career Academy: Programs• Biopharmaceutical Technology: prepares individuals for employment in

pharmaceutical manufacturing and related industries.

• Collision Repair: individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, reconstruct and finish automobile bodies, fenders, and external features.

• Cosmetology: provides competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry in a simulated salon environment.

Vernon Malone College & Career Academy: Programs• Facilities Technology:

• Air conditioning, heating, & refrigeration: develops skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems. Topics include mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls and safety.

• Electrical: teaches the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.

• Plumbing: acquires basic skills to assist with the installation and repair of plumbing systems in residential and small buildings.

• Geomatics Technology: provides a broad background in geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS) technologies with practical applications in municipal, industrial, natural resources, management, and other fields.

Vernon Malone College & Career Academy: Programs• Nurse Aide: introduces students to basic nursing skills needed in a health

care setting.

• Simulation & Game Development: provides a broad background in simulation and game development with practical applications in creative arts, visual arts, audio/video technology, creative writing, modeling, design, programming and management.

• Welding: provides students with sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metal industry.

• Randomly Selected & Priority Points Added

• If not receive 1st Choice: Waitlisted even if receive 2nd or 3rd Choice

• You may apply to an Early College & Magnet School

• If you are Selected for an Early College = then it is yours• The Magnet Application will not be processed

• If not Selected for an Early College = then Waitlisted for 1st choice Early College & your Magnet Application will be processed

Magnet Priorities

• Highest Priority: Magnet Students transitioning to HS & apply for their program pathway school have the highest priority to be selected

• Priority but not the Highest: Magnet students who apply to a Magnet school other than their program pathway school have a high priority to be selected.

The High School Transcript

• The 9th grade year is extremely important: Every course taken in high school (passed or failed) will appear on

the student’s transcript and is used to calculate the Grade Point Average (GPA)

The GPA is a critical component in the college admission process Course selection and the level of difficulty is also heavily

considered for college admission The GPA, entrance exams and other criteria are the primary

indicators of scholarship offers

Drivers’ Education

• Students may take Driver Education at 14.5 years of age

• To be eligible to obtain a Driver’s Permit or maintain driving privileges, student must pass 3/4 (75%) of their classes each semester

• Only juniors and seniors are eligible to drive to school and they must meet the guidelines of the school
