The aim of the semester was to analyze, understand and recondiser the theme of the grand hotel in the Engadina area, in its two centuries of history. The reinterpretation of the theme led me to undestand that that kind of building is primarly based on social interactions and on common interest, so came the idea to put a polo field in front of the main building, so that private and common rooms could became places from which enjoy the matches. The sport of polo is strictly radicated in the traditions of the plateau, there is a winter tournament that is played since the XIX century.

The aim of the semester was to rething the old dockyard of Genoa’s harbour, making it co-herent with the urban transformations of the last decades. The project takes inspiration from the dimensions and form factors of the buildings already in the harbour area. To perpetrate Genoa’s typical trait of crowded neighborhoods at any hours, I opted for a mixed functions building.

A TOWER ON THE WATERFRONT

The aim of the project is to requalify the Poco do Bispo area, that is situated at the end of the old commercial harbour, creating a commercial and turistic point of reference in the city, bringing the neighborhood back to life. From the urbanistic point of view, the aim is to retrace the old waterfront coastline, as it was before the commercial harbour expansion in the XIX century. The old railway that was used to move the containers between the dockyards is con-verted to a walkway that follows the waterfront line, connecting the tower to the lighthouse that marks the western city limit. The building is moved away from the coast line, so that it does not interfere, rising directly from the river, willing to became the new city landmark. The tower is 220m high, and is composed by three different volumes, which joins at different heights, creating space expansions that have the function of green areas. The access to the building is guaranteed by a bridge that connects the tower with the land.

The project is the complete transformation of an office in the old city centre of Como into an holiday residence for a Finnish family. To adapt the spaces to the new function it has been necessary to completely demolish the old partitioning walls, and rearrange the layout of the apartement to the new needs. Since the building has a certain age, during the demolition we found that central pillar was made with handmade bricks that came from the XVIII century, So we structurally reinforced the pillar with a brushed stainless steel cage, exposing the bricks to the view, and making the pillar the main carachter of the apartment, enjoyable from every room.

The project is about the demolition and reconstruction of a post war building in the central Piazza of the city of Erba. The new building will be composed of three stories, the firsts two have the function of bar and lounge, tha last story will be the apartment of the bar’s owner.Since the piazza has a certain historical and sociological importance there has been a strict cooperation with the city administration to develop the main facade composition, colors and materials.

L’intervento prevede una completa rivisitazione della proprietà Cavenaghi, con lo scopo di riqualifi-

care l’immobile e ridare lustro al prospetto della piazza, migliorando le proporzioni di facciata ed ado-

ttando una composizione delle aperture più adeguata e consona ad uno spazio pubblico, rispettando

e reinterpretando la sostanza storica dei luoghi.

La destinazione d’uso della proprietà Cavenaghi, sin dalla sua origine, è stata di carattere commer-

ciale, mentre l’altra proprietà (Pontiggia) è, da sempre stata composta da uno spazio commerciale al

piano terra e da soprastante abitazione.

Il progetto prevede la conservazione di spazi commerciali ai livelli inferiori e la realizzazione di un

alloggio al piano sottotetto.

L’ipotesi progettuale prevede la ricomposizione volumetrica

dell’unità oggetto d’intervento, prendendo in riferimento l’altez-

za della porzione d’edificio contigua. senza alcuna variazione

dimensionale planimetrica.

L’attuale altezza media della proprietà, pari a m. 5,42, verrà el-

evata alla stessa quota media della porzione contigua - m. 8,67 - come consentito dall’art. 27 delle

N.T.A. del P.G.T. vigente. L’attuale conformazione della copertura verrà modificata e resa coerente col

contesto generale della piazza, tramutandosi in un classico tetto a due falde simmetriche.

L’intervento intende riqualificare il prospetto generale dell’edificio, richiamando i canoni classici, ri-

organizzando la facciata in tre fasce, mettendo in evidenza la tripartizione attraverso differenti ordini

delle aperture.

In base a questo principio, le aperture poste al piano terreno saranno evidenziate, oltre che per le

loro dimensioni, anche per la presenza di un rivestimento della fascia di facciata, realizzato con lastre

lapidee in beola bianca, mettendo in evidenza le fughe orizzontali cementizie. La facciata del piano

primo presenterà una serie di aperture, poste sulla proiezione verticale dei serramenti al piano inferi-

ore e suddivise in quattro aperture. La porzione di facciata superiore, infine, sarà analoga a quella del

piano primo e altresì dotata di quattro di finestre ridimensionate in altezza.

Le scelte progettuali dei materiali e cromatiche hanno come obiettivo di rafforzare il legame dell’ed-

ificio con i luoghi circostanti, e di mettere in risalto un elemento di pregio come la chiesa di Sant’Eu-

femia, anche attraverso analogie cromatiche; pertanto la tavolozza dei colori adottati fa riferimento

The complex is the combination of a catholic church, the private residence of the priest, a building dedicated to religious educa-tion, and an external area for sports and activities. The competition was on invitation and has been done in collaboration with the italian architect Gianluca Gelmini.

The architectural competition organized by the city of Nyon to choose a project for the con-struction of a school and sports complex on the site of Reposoir in Nyon.The school Project planning must respond to massive population growth in Nyon, and reor-ganization under the new law of compulsory education. The school is no longer considered itself like an entity but as part of a resort for children living in an area of the city in the north.School and sports complex in Reposoir must meet the needs of the school, and UAPE sports infrastructure for the northern sector of the city in full development. The project includes the construction of five distinct volumes that will work in close collaboration one with the other.The project includes two school buildings, a pool building, a gym building and a refectory building. The competition has been done in collabortion with the swiss firm Atelier Nido.

Landscape, Myths and Technology is a research project lead by a joint venture between the Accademia di Architettura of Mendrisio and ETH Zurich with the aim to analyze with a differ-ent point of view the alpine landscape of the Gotthard and the changes that the new NEAT tunnel would bring to the area. The research focuses on the different scales of the landscape, from the smallest one that involves infrastructures such as bridges and tunnels, to the biggest one that involves the whole alpine area. The result is a five volumes book, that could count on authors such as Marianne Burkhalter, Christian Sumi, Christophe Girot, Dunja Richter and Mario Monotti,
