Definition

• a closed private network of computers used for file sharing

• machines unreachable by other computers on the internet

• website content not indexed by search engines

• Any packet that enters a Darknet is by its presence aberrant. No legitimate packets should be sent to a Darknet

• Searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean: a great deal may be caught in the net, but there is a wealth of information that is deep and therefore missed

• Although some of the content is not open to the general public, BrightPlanet estimates that 95% of the deep Web can be accessed through specialized search

• We all know the potentiality of the e-commerce in ordinary web and its impressive growth in last couple of years, well now imagine the Deep Web market that is more that 500 times bigger and where there is no legal limits on the odds to sell

• The Dark Net has 2 sides of the coin: Pros and Cons

• Pros: Hides the identity of independent journalists, writers, etc.

Cons: Hides the identity of Criminals, Terrorists, etc.
