    Installation instructions

    Insert the DVD into your DVD drive. If your PC has auto-

    play enabled, an installation window will appear on yourwindows desktop.Follow the on-screen instructions to install Darkfall on your

    hard drive. If the installation window does not appear, thenopen My Computer and double-click on the DVD ROM icon

    where the Darkfall DVD is present.You should then be able to use the installation windowto install Darkfall.

    You must create a Darkfall Account in order to be able toplay Darkfall.1. Go to www.darkfallonline.com/buydarkfall

    2. Select the DARKFALL EUROPE to access theEuropean Servers

    3. Use your serial code found in the Darkfall Box

    Getting startedCharacter Creation

    Yourrststeptoenteringthebattle-riddenworldofAgoniscreating your character. The Character creation process is

    fairly painless and there are a number of options with whichyou can customize your hero (or villain!) and make themtruly your own. After all, they will likely be the last sight

    your enemies see before you slay them!

    Begin by selecting your race. Whether you choose the proudMahirim, noble Mirdain, or any of the other races, be sure

    toreadupontheirhistoryandchoosewhichracebesttsyour style.

    After choosing your race and gender you can customize

    your characters features and nally choose their name.If you have trouble with the name you can click on theGenerate button and we will give you some suggestions.

    Bear in mind that at any point you may click the Back

    button to go back and have a look at a different race, anychanges you made will be automatically saved should

    you decide to come back to your current selection.Use the slider along the bottom to rotate your character andview them from a different angle.

    Basic controlsDarkfall is a game that combines furiously fast-paced, real

    time combat with a massively seamless world environ-ment. The land of Agon is one that is both unforgiving and

    offering a vast potential of possibility. Players used totraditionalMMOsmayndsomedifferencesthatwilloffernew challenges to conquer. Apart from the huge freedom of

    game-play players will come to see that Darkfalls controlscombine the FPS style of Gameplay with that of an MMO.

    Below youll nd a brief overview to help you take your steps

    on the path to blood and glory!

    Movement:

    Direction - The W,A,S and D keys are the standard MMOand FPS movement keys. W to move forward, S to back up.A and D will strafe you left and right respectively.

    Crouching/Diving Crouch down using the C button

    to reduce your visibility to players and monsters alike.Sneaking up on your enemies this way will increase your

    chances of pulling off that surprising and often deadlyambush. The crouch key is also used to dive whileswimming.

    Sprinting Holding down the SHIFT key while using thedirectional buttons will give you a burst of speed. How long

    you can last depends on your stamina. Bear in mind, how-

    ever, that if your stamina is depleted you will be too windedto do anything but run feebly away at a normal pace.

    Jumping Leap through the air to catch an enemyunawares or cross obstacles using the Spacebar. As with

    sprinting, jumping will also consume stamina, so be carefulhow much you jump around.

    Walking For those times when one needs to go for a stroll,or walk menacingly towards a hated enemy, showing no

    fear, hold down the Control key as you move forward.

    CombatHacking, slashing, and generally destroying yourenemy Just equip the right tool for the job, point yourself

    (and your crosshair) in the direction of the one fated to dieand click away! Your left mouse button is your hack, slash,

    stab, cast, and generally all-out slay your foe button. Whataction you take depends on what is equipped and what skill,if any, you have selected before-hand.

    Blocking A little defense never hurt anyone nobody

    will call you a pansy (much) if you occasionally raise your shield (or two handed weapon) to ward off yourenemys blows. Hold downV to go into this defensive stance.

    Be wary though, blocking, like almost all actions, will alsodrain your stamina.

    Drawing and Sheathing If you want to hack, you needa blade, if you want to cut a tree down, you need an Axe.

    Bare hands just will not do the job. Before you can take anyactions requiring a tool you need to draw it out. Once you

    have equipped it, press R to draw it. Then point yourself inthe direction of your intended victim and/or resource nodeand click away.

    Likewise if you want to interact with something in the world

    youwillneedyourhandsfree.Youjustcannotriethrougha dead dwarves pockets with a handful of Two Handed Mace.Sheathe it using the R button again.

    Action/Interface modesYour right mouse button

    toggles between the Actionand Interface modes.

    In the Action mode, youcan move the mouse

    around to change thedirection your character

    is facing, aim at objectsor players with the cross-

    hair and interact withthe game world. In thismode if you draw you melee weapon with the R button

    your view will switch to third person perspective in order togrant you some more awareness during combat situations.

    In order to interact with many of the objects in Agon you willuse the F key. With this you can access your bank, talk to

    an NPC, mount your steed etc. The F key is, for all intentsand purposes, your use button.

    The G key is your other uses button. Anything with morethan one use can also be targeted using the G key to bring

    up a menu of various options. Accessing a guild bankthrough the bank, de-spawning your mountand trading with a player are all some

    examples of this.

    In the Interface mode you can access yourmenus, your spells and skills, the paper-

    doll and bags. This is the mode whereyou will drag skills to your hot-bar,switch around items and

    change any game settingsor key-bindings you may

    wish to.

    First stepsSo youve arrived in Agon well, dont

    just stand there gawking. Go slay ourenemies! Your fate is your own now,

    you may carve the path of bloodyslaughterasyouseet.

    However, if you really do feel youd like a little push in the right

    direction, there are those who willhelpforaprice.Youwillhavearrived,totakeyourrststeps,

    in one of three starting villages. If you turn around you shouldsee a helpful looking NPC standing there trying to get yourattention.

    TherstNPCsyoutalktowillofferyouanumberofqueststo guide your way in the perilous land of Agon. Theyll also

    offer you some gold and items to give you a better head start.Through them you will learn all you need about professions

    and the various enemies you will encounter.

    Of course, you may well prefer to jump straight into thefray you can never start the slaying of enemies too soon!

    But if you also wish to immerse yourself into the world ofAgon, many quests will lead your steps to epic battles allaround the land.

    Starting weaponsand death

    The Starting Weapon

    Agon is too dangerous a land towalk around with absolutely no

    defense. To this end you willndthatwhenyourstenter

    the world you will have astarting weapon in your

    bag, this weapon cannever be lost and willalways be available

    even after you die and your grave has been

    looted.

    You can also trade the original

    blade for various other weapon arche-types through deals with several of the

    starting town NPCs.

    Youll have the option to purchase additional

    weapon slots if you want to keep several starting weapontypes on your character.

    Death

    As far as dying goes, the philosophy is universal: dontlet it happen to you. If you should happen to fall to anenemy however, anything you have on you will stay in a

    grave where you fell and will likely be looted by your foe.

    Once you fall a timer bar will appear and begin counting

    down to your re-spawn time. You can bypass the timer andtap out by hitting the space bar.

    Upon re-spawning you should notice that you areinvulnerable. This lasts for 5 minutes or until you take any

    action other than running away. Youll also notice that whileyou are now naked, you will still have your starting weapon.

    Maybe you should see if you can reclaim the contents ofyour grave?

    CombatDarkfall offers countless possibilities and options to the

    enterprising adventurer. You are not hindered in any pathyou choose, be it merchant, healer, builder or something

    else. However, your enemies may have different ideas. Agonis a land of war, combat and strife. Enemy raiders may bearound every corner. Any shadow can hide a deadly blade

    or ambush. Well provide you a little guidance in the art ofslaughter.

    Melee

    Before you can get up close and personal with your enemyyou need a weapon equipped. Double-click it in your bag ordrag it to your weapon slot on your character window. Once

    done you can use your R-key to unsheathe it. This takes youinto a third person view, giving you a bit more of a chanceto react to enemies and allies in your immediate area.

    To attack an enemy, run up to him and try to keep him inyour crosshair while you press the left mouse button to

    swing against him.

    The heavier the armor you wear, however, the harder it is to

    damage someone effectively. Although, in the same vein, themoreyoughtinheavyarmor,themoreyouwillraiseyour

    Armed Combat skill and negate that penalty.

    Finally, try to maneuver yourself behind an enemy.

    Back-stabbing may be sneaky, but its where you will cause

    the most damage. Of course, its also where you will take themost so watch your back.

    Ranged Combat

    Melee and magic can both begreat fun and devastating but

    sometimes there is no greatersatisfaction than peppering your

    enemy full of arrows before theycan even stagger within spittingdistance.

    Equip your bow, drag your

    arrows to the ammunition sloton your character window andshoot your enemy in the face

    until it stops being funny.

    As with all combat skills, wearing heavy armor will handicapyour damageoutput.Themore youghtwhile

    wearing that armor the more you will raiseyour Armored Archery skill to negate this.

    While a challenging skill to master, Archery

    can truly be devastating if you get thehang of it. A well placed arrow in thebackwillalsodealsignicantlymore

    pain to an unwary victim.

    Alignment

    OnenalaspectofcombatinDarkfallis that of Alignment. Your alignment

    is dictated by your actions, andspecicallywho you attack and it

    determines how otherplayers and NPCs willsee and react to you.

    You can view your cur-rent alignment right

    under your health bar;mouse over it to view itscurrent status.

    MagicMagic or melee? A question that has plagued gamers since

    the dawn of, well, games. Is drowning your foe in a torrent ofacid before incinerating whats left of his carcass-to-be in a

    screamingreballmoreeffectivethanstabbinghimthroughthe face with two feet of cold steel? We have no answer; itsure is fun though!

    Before you can start

    chucking reballsaround though,

    you must acquire a

    good staff, no mage

    leaves home with-out one. Once thatis done you can drag

    your available spells

    from your spell-book into the hot-

    bar. Activate them byclicking the spellsslot or correspond-

    ing number, pointat your victims face,

    and begin the car-nage. Your currentlyactive spell will show at the bottom of your hot-bar.

    As with all skills armor, and especially heavy armor, will in-

    cur a penalty to your damage. In the case of magic it will also

    raisethechanceforyourmagictomiss-re.However,thisisoff-set by increasing your Armored Magic skill.

    Your magic skill itself will rise the more you cast. As you

    grow in power so too shall new and interesting ways to meltyour enemys faces become available. You can access and

    learn new schools of magic from NPC mages around thetowns.

    Magic isnt limited to simple damage of course a dedicatedmagecantrulyinuence thetideof battle.Healingallies,

    cursing enemies and bringing huge elemental forces to playandwreakhavocontheeld.

    Alignment is represented by colors. Red characters are ofan opposing alignment to you and blue ones are allies. Yourracial allies will not necessarily be your allies in action as

    well however.

    Players who attack players of their own racial alliance willmove towards an evil alignment. An evil character can be

    killed freely by other players with no danger to their align-ment. And indeed killing an evil character will gain youpositive alignment.

    Therstminutesafteryouattackablueplayerorallyyou

    are considered to have gone rogue. During these momentsanyone attacking you will receive no penalties when theyattack you.

    Hitting players in your party or your clan will not carry any

    alignment penalties, or turn you rogue. Similarly if your clanhas declared war on another clan, you wont take an align-ment hit for killing these players, nor will you turn rogue.

    The beasts of Agon:Mounts and monstersMonsters

    The fauna of Agon come in all shapes andsizes; from the sneaky tribes of goblins andkobolds to the god-like powers of the

    awesome dragon. But the monstersof this land are clever, they dont

    want to give you their loot andthey dont want you to slay

    them. While other landsmay have beasts underevery rock ready to dish out their

    loot, the denizens of Darkfall aremore cunning.

    Youwillndthatenemiesreactto youandtheirsituation in a craftier manner. Goblins will weave

    and dodge your spells, call on their friends orback off to assess the situation before charging inagain. Gnolls will lie in ambush to leap out at you

    from the shadows.Andshouldthebeastsndthelandtoohardto

    live in, they will migrate. You will need to developthe skills of a true hunter should you wish to facethese enemies. And quite often, you may want to

    bring some friends along.

    Mounts

    Not all the beasts of Agon will want to eat your face anduse your leftovers for an ashtray; some will happily let you

    mount them. These helpful companions come in a varietyof species and can give you a number of advantages in both

    combat and travel. Obtaining a mount can be as simple askilling its current rider and stealing it from under him.

    The blood-thirsty mounts of Agon are not terribly botheredabout loyalty, as long as they get to ride into battle they

    dont care who the rider may be!

    You may also tame your own mount by using steed-grass, arare herb, combined with the taming whistle and skill (these

    you can buy from vendors). Each race has their own unique

    mount to tame.

    Tospawnyoursteed,simplydouble-clickonthegurineinyour backpack while aiming your cross-hairs at the locationyou would like it to spawn. Be wary however, once the beast

    has arrived, anybody may mount it. So make sure you arein a safe location when you summon it. Keep in mind also

    thatwhenyoudie,thegurineinyourbagisfreetoloot.To de-spawn your trusty mount, walk up to it and press G.This will bring up the menu of options so you can select the

    de-spawn option.

    It is also possible to melee off the back of the mount witha one handed weapon and shield. Depending on the keycombinations you press your mount will also join in the fray

    to apply some hefty attacks of its own.

    CraftingAlmost anything you see in Agon can be crafted if you

    have enough skill and creativity. The very best andmost deadly weapons can be forged by the master

    crafters of Agon. Many of these will rival even the mostpowerful creatures loot. And just to appeal to an artisanssense of vanity all his creations will bear his name.

    The various crafting skills can be seen below:

    Construction Weapons and armor are not your only line

    of defense. Craftsmen who devote some time learning theart of construction can build legacies in the form of citiesand hamlets for their clan. This extends to all the evil little

    additions a city can introduce to make the lives of attackersmore interesting.

    Bowyer If peppering your foes full of sharp pieces of woodis your preference, you may also prefer to craft your own

    weapons and ammunition. After all its the only way to besure of the quality!

    Armor - Smithing Craft armor ofmetal to protect yourself and your

    allies (or simply sell it for prot).If its made of metal and you can

    wear it, an armor-smith can make it!

    Armor-smithing requires a forge.

    Tailor If its not made of metal andyou can wear it, then the Tailor can

    make it. Robes, leather and bonearmor all are this craftsmans forte.

    Weapon - Smithing Blades, macesand all types of weapons of up close

    and personal destruction fall into this crafting category.Thisincludessomespecialrace-specicweaponsofdeadlyquality. Weapon-smithing requires a forge.

    Alchemy Tinkering with chemicals and magical ingredients

    to create powerful concoctions, the Alchemist is a master ofpotion brewing. He can also craft the more powerful magestaffs. Alchemy requires an alchemical lab.

    Enchanting Your friendly neighborhood enchanter is theperson to see if you want to give your weapons and armoran extra edge in the form of magical enhancement. Mas-

    ter enchanters may even transmute your weapons intopowerful elemental tools of war!

    Jewel-smithing The maker of bright baubles and shinydecorations, they can craft such wonders to make even the

    homeliest ork stand out in the crowd. Of course, many ofthese baubles can also be magically enchanted

    Cooking Who doesnt love a good cook? Prepare feastsand rations to keep you and your friends healthy and happy

    inbetweenghts.Thebetterchefsoftheworldcancreatefoods to nourish you and give you added bonuses!

    Herbalism A herbalist is like an alchemist on the go.Heknocksupquickandsimplepotionswhileon theeld

    without needing a forge. While they will not be as powerfulas those carefully concocted in a lab, they will serve their

    purpose and can often become a very important lastline of defense.

    Warhulk Construction Every citysnightmare and besiegers best friend, War-

    hulks are immense engines of destruction.The masters of this craft will be able to build

    huge monstrosities bristling with cannonsand siege weapons that can even carrymany passengers towards their chosen

    victims city. Whether the smaller moremobile units or the large devastat-

    ing personnel carriers; all Warhulksrequire a Foundry.

    Ship Building These mastersof naval craftsmanship carry

    the battles to the high seas.From small, swift biremes totowering warships, a good

    ship builder is always popular ina sea-faring clan. The construction of a ship

    requires a city with a shipyard.

    Clans and conquestClans

    There is strength in numbers and might makes right.These two concepts are never truer than in the war-torn

    lands of Agon. With the strength of a clan at your back thepossibilities of Darkfall really begin to unfold.

    Apartfromtheusualbenetssuchaschatting,tradingandcompany, clans offer you the chance to take part in battle

    on a truly epic scale. Through the use of certain clan stonesand artifacts that higher ranks may use, you can wage war

    on other clans, lay siege to cities and, if you win, draw themunder your own dominion.

    Joining/Starting a Clan

    The clan window is found on your main menu. Through this

    you can browse all the various clans and apply for member-ship with any you like. For a price you may also create your

    own clan here.

    Neutral Towns and Building

    Claiming a Neutral Town

    To claim a neutral (unoccupied) city or hamlet for your clan,

    you need a clan shard in your backpack. Clan shards canbe purchased from Counselor NPCs in the capital cities.Make sure you are within the city/hamlet limits (this will

    be shown in the system window as well as an on-screenmessage), and double-click the clan shard.

    The clan-member trying to claim the neutral town or hamletmust have the rank of General or higher, and your clan can

    not currently be involved in a Challenge when you try toclaim a new holding.

    Please note that you can only claim one new holding every24 hours.

    Building a Town

    Constructing your town isrelatively hassle-free com-

    pared to real life.

    Once you own a city or

    hamlet, stand close to theclanstone, and while aim-

    ing directly at it, press thealternative use key (defaultG). This will bring up a

    menu allowing you to buildstructures. No sweaty con-

    struction workers or angryunions to deal with!

    ConquestIn comparison to simply claiming and building, conquest

    can be a little more complicated. Doubtless it is alsoinnitely more fun, but once wemove past the scream-ing, mud churning hordes of enemies rushing at the

    fortications, the thundering charges of the defenderscounter-attack to rip through the enemy lines, the thunder

    and crackle of spells and energy as they soar through theair to assault body and building alike... Yes once we movepast all that, there are one or two rules that come into play.

    For the serious conqueror these are detailed below:

    DefnitionsAll Cities and Hamlets have CityPoints associated with them.

    These are calculated by the potential of the City or Hamlet;

    e.g. a City with a potential Wonder will have a high CityPointscore while a small Hamlet will have a small CityPoint score.

    A City or Hamlet is either owned by a Clan or it isNeutral.

    All Cities and Hamlets start out Neutral. A Clan can be involved in only one Conquest

    Challenge at a time. A Clan owned city is conquered when the Clan Stone

    or Clan Hamlet is destroyed.

    You get CityPoints by destroying Clan Stones.

    Conquering a Clan owned City/Hamlet when your Clan alsoowns Cities/Hamlets

    In order to start a challenge against a Clan ownedCity/Hamlet, these preconditions has to hold true:

    1. You must be in a Clan

    2. You must formally declare WAR against the cityowners (Or they must have done so against you)

    3. You must have the rank of General or higher

    4. You must be within the city/hamlets limits5. You must have a Clan Shard in your backpack

    6. The Clan you are about to challenge must not be inanother Conquest Challenge

    7. Your Clan must not be in a Conquest Challenge

    8. Double click the Clan Shard in your back pack9. Congratulations you have now initiated a Conquest

    Challenge

    A City vs City conquest consist of 2 Stages:

    Stage1:

    Stage 1 lasts 4 hours.

    The City that was issued a challenge against isinvulnerable for these 4 hours.

    All cities and hamlets belonging to the attackers will bevulnerable in this period. Anyone (including Mercenary

    clans, allies etc.) can help the defenders by attacking the

    attackers Clan Cities/Hamlet Stones. If a Clan City/HamletStone of one of the attackers Cities is destroyed during thistime, ownership is transferred to the defenders.

    A Conquest Challenge can end during this period if:

    1. The total sum of CityPoints lost by the attackersexceed the CityPoints of the Defenders Challenged

    City. Defenders WIN.2. The attackers have lost their last City/Hamlet.

    Defenders WIN.3. A formal Peace Treaty between the Attacker and the

    Defender is negotiated. Its a DRAW.

    4. If none of these conditions have been metduring the 4 hour period then Stage 2

    of the Conquest will commence.

    Stage2:

    Stage 2 lasts 2 hours.

    During this stage the challengedCity/Hamlet will become vulnerable.

    All the Attackers Cities/Hamlets willremain vulnerable.

    A Conquest Challenge will end during thisperiod if:

    1. The total sum of CityPoints lost by theattackers exceed the CityPoints of the

    Defenders Challenged City. Defenders WIN.2. The attackers have lost their last

    City/Hamlet. Defenders WIN.3. A formal Peace Treaty between the Attacker

    and the Defender is negotiated. Its a DRAW.

    4. The attackers destroy the Defenders City Clan Stone.Attackers WIN.

    If, after 2 hours, there is no outcome the ConquestChallenge will result in a timeout. This means its a draw.

    Conquering a Clan owned City/Hamlet when your Clan does

    NOT own any Cities/Hamlets

    When you do NOT own any Clan Cities/Hamlets you have

    to put up a wager in Gold for the Clan who owns the city.

    The exact amount has to do with the number of CityPointsof the City/Hamlet you are about to challenge. You will getthe wager back only if you WIN the Conquest Challenge.

    If you do NOT win the challenge this amount of Gold will betransferred to the Clan that owns the City when the Chal-

    lenge is over. This also happens in a DRAW.

    In order to initiate a challenge against a Clan owned

    City/Hamlet while your Clan does NOT own anyCities/Hamlets, these preconditions have to hold true:

    1. You have to be in a Clan2. WAR must be formally declared between the two

    parties.3. You must hold the rank of General or higher

    4. You must be within the city/hamlets limits5. You must have a Clan Shard in your backpack6. The Clan you are about to challenge must not be

    involved in another Conquest Challenge7. Your Clan must not be in a Conquest Challenge

    8. Your Clan must have enough Gold in the Clan Vault toChallenge the City/Hamlet

    9. Double click the Clan Shard in your back pack

    10. Congratulations you have now initiated a ConquestChallenge

    11. The person who initiated the Challenge is now theChallenger

    The Challenger becomes a target for the DefendingClan.

    His location will show up on all the Defenders

    members world and mini maps. The Challenger is incapable of teleporting or using

    portals, and if he logs out for whatever reason theChallenge is lost.

    A No City vs City Conquest Challengeconsists of 2 stages:

    Stage 1

    Stage 1 lasts 4 hours.The Challenged City is invulnerable in these 4 hours.

    A Conquest Challenge can end during this period if:

    1. The Defenders KILL the Challenger. Defenders WIN.2. A formal Peace Treaty between the Attacker and the

    Defender is negotiated. This means a draw.

    If none of these conditions have been met during the 4 hour

    period then Stage 2 of the Conquest will commence.

    Stage 2:

    Stage 2 lasts for 2 hours. During this stage the challenged City/Hamlet becomes

    vulnerable.

    A Conquest Challenge will end during this period if:

    1. The Defenders KILL the Challenger. Defenders WIN.

    2. A formal Peace Treaty between the Attacker and theDefender is negotiated. This means a draw.

    3. The attackers destroy the Clan Stone of the Defenders

    City. Attackers WIN.

    If, after 2 hours, there is no outcome the ConquestChallenge will result in a timeout. This means a draw.

    NOTE: The Gold deposited by the Attackers will always go tothe defenders unless the Attackers win.

    Destroying a Clan Stone

    A Clan Stone can be destroyed using this equipment:

    Siege Hammers (2 Handed Weapon) Different types of Battle Spikes (thrown weapons)

    Dynamically deployable Cannons Warhulk Weapons Ship cannons

    When a City has changed ownership:

    If a bank is present, its automatically destroyed, andthe new owner will have to haul new building modules

    across the land to build it. These modules are heavyand if you overload, you cannot use runestones orother means of teleportation.

    All members of the previous Clan currently bound tothe City will be booted out

    The record of this Challenge will live forever.

    Other information regarding cities

    You can only destroy one building per day. The only things

    exempt from this rule are walls, palisades, decorations andclan city cannons

    You can disable buildings at all times. Disabling a building that has a local bonus (Gives

    attribute bonuses to all Clan Members when they are

    within the city limits) associated with it, will cause theClan Members to lose the bonuses

    Disabling a Wonder will cause the global bonus tobe removed

    Disabling Houses and Barracks will decrease the

    number of people ableto bind at the city.

    All buildings can be repaired using repairshards and a repairhammer

    Different Cities have different abilities:

    There are 9 unique Wonderslocated in 9 different cities.

    These give Global bonusesto all members of the

    Clan that own it. Warhulks can be crafted only in certain

    cities.

    Coastal cities and hamlets may haveshipyards you can build ships at.

    Mines producing a variety ofresources can be found in various

    cities. Every city is laid out and strategically

    positioned for warfare.
