The Authority’s Position
• Dartmoor National Park Authority is the local planning authority for the whole of the Dartmoor National Park (Environment Act 1995)
• The Authority produces development plans and undertakes development management work
• The Authority is also a ‘Section 4/4’ authority, along with Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Torbay Council, and assists and advises on regional level planning

Development Management & Delivery DPD• A limited suite of DM policies to supplement the Core Strategy• Will include settlement insets for towns/villages where there are
specific allocations or other policy factors, e.g. conservation areas
Minerals & Waste DPDs• The National Park Authority is a minerals and waste planning
authority• The Authority is not a waste disposal authority• However, we will maintain close liaison with Devon County
Council & Plymouth CC on their mineral & waste plans
Design Guidance SPD• Government sees design guidance as one of the ways of
promoting sustainable communities e.g. through encouraging local distinctiveness, community safety, low C housing, life-time homes, healthy environment

The National Park Core Strategy Development Plan Document was adopted in April 2008It covers the period 2006-2026

Core Strategy DPD• Establishes the broad aims for spatial
development in the Dartmoor National Park• Puts forward a vision for a “Sustainable
Dartmoor National Park”• Defines key sustainability objectives• Provides strategic policies needed to achieve
the aims• Conforms with the RSS, the saved policies of
the Devon Structure Plan, and has regard to the themes of the community strategies covering the National Park
