against average of 2.56. Cornell is the only team in the Ivy League not to win a game (0-5-1) against the other five programs.

▶ AGAINST CORNELL THIS SEASONIn the earlier match-up between the two teams this season, Dartmouth captain Mike Keenan tied the game in the final minute with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker to force a 1-1 tie at Lynah Rink on Nov. 17. Keenan’s shot came with 51 seconds left in regulation and answered a Dustin Mowrey goal at the 9:41 mark of the third that gave Cornell the 1-0 lead. Freshman goaltender Charles Grant stopped 26 shots.

▶ SCOUTING COLGATEThe Raiders come to Hanover also on a bit of a slide, having lost its last two following two straight ties on the North Country road swing. Colgate’s biggest knock coming into the season was that it would lack the scoring touch it had last season. That has not been the case in Hamilton as the team leads ECAC Hockey in offense at 3.25 goals per game with five players already reaching the 20-point mark this season. Freshman Tylor Spink leads the way with 25 points, while classmate Kyle Baun has a team-best 10 goals. Rookie Spencer Finney (8-7-3, 2.31, .914) has seen the majority of time in net recently after taking over for junior Eric Mihalik (5-4-1, 2.81, .894) at midseason.

▶ AGAINST COLGATE THIS SEASONThe Raiders’ 5-4 home win over Dartmouth back on Nov. 16 might have been the most thrilling ECAC Hockey game of the season. With the Green leading 4-1 early in the third, Colgate rattled off four-unanswered tallies in the final period to take the victory. Capped by Robbie Bourdon’s hat-trick marker with just three seconds left, the Raiders handed the Big Green their first loss of 2012-13, knocking off Dartmouth as the last unbeaten team in the country.

▶ SIX NO MOREThe tie at a sold-out Lynah Rink in November snapped the Big Red’s six-game win streak over the Big Green dating back to the 2010-11 season. In all, Dartmouth is winless in its last eight vs. Cornell (0-6-2) with the last victory coming back on Feb. 20, 2010 (5-4) in Hanover. Last season, the Red took all four games in the series, including a sweep (2-0) in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals.

▶ CLOSER THAN YOU THINKDespite the outcomes, this Cornell-Dartmouth series has been much closer than people would think at first glance. Nine of the last 10 contests between the two have either been decided by one goal (7) or ended in a draw (2). The lone game not decided by one tally was the elimination game in last season’s postseason when Cornell won, 3-1.

▶ SIMPSON’S STRIKEJunior defenseman Andy Simpson’s second goal of the season came midway through Sunday’s first period in Cambridge to give his team the early 1-0 lead. The third goal of his career, it marked Simpson’s first against an opponent other than St. Lawrence. He had one in the postseason series with the Saints last season before notching his first of 2012-13 on Jan. 25 at home against SLU.

▶ SLUMPING!?For the first time all season, Tyler Sikura failed to register a point in consecutive games when he was held off the scoresheet at Harvard. Sikura

has points in 19 of the team’s 23 games this season and leads the way with 26 on nine goals and 17 assists.

▶ LINEUP CHANGE UPOut of the lineup against the Crimson were junior Matt Lindblad and Brandon McNally for the forwards, while Nick Lovejoy once again was not dressed on defense.

▶ LAST LINECab Morris continues to be solid in the Dartmouth goal during his junior season. After the tie with Harvard, Morris’ figures stand at an impressive .923 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average, while boasting an 8-4-3 record (6.33 win %).

▶ HOME SWEET HOMEDartmouth returns to the friendliest confines of Thompson Arena this weekend. In 2012-13 there are few places the Big Green would rather be than its home building as they have posted a 9-2 mark in Hanover this season. In contrast, the road has been a bit of a challenge as the team is just 2-6-4 in 12 games away from the Upper Valley.

▶ BENCH BOSSESThis weekend will see three of the top four current coaches in ECAC Hockey on the benches at Thompson Arena. Cornell’s Mike Schafer ranks second amongst current coaches in the conference with 340 wins in his 18 seasons at Cornell. Colgate’s Don Vaugh has 327 career victories in 20 seasons to rank third, while Bob Gaudet has 323 wins at Brown and Dartmouth in 26 seasons as a head coach, including the last 15 at Dartmouth. Quinnipiac’s Rand Pecknold leads all ECAC Hockey coaches in career wins with 358 between the DI and DII ranks with the Bobcats.

▶ VOTE FOR HOBEYFan voting is open for the 2013 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey’s best player. Dartmouth has two nominees on this season’s fan ballot as both Matt Lindblad and Sikura make their first appearances.

▶ WEEKEND WARRIORSCornell has the lowest goals per game figure of any team in the league on Saturdays, averaging just 2.08, while ranking ninth in Friday tilts at 2.36 goals per. Colgate is pretty consistent from

night to night with 2.79 goals on Fridays (5th) and 3.23 on Saturdays (3rd). The Big Green average the second-best goal output on Friday nights at 3.38, while ranking fifth on Saturdays with 2.64.

Head Coach

BOB GAUDET ’81Now in his 16th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench.

In the last two seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12.

In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 15 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL.

Entering the 2012-13 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 219 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .507 winning percentage (219-212-54) is the third-best mark at Dartmouth as well.

In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J.

At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 219-212-54 (Entering this year).

The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth

its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year Award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction.

After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign.

Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07.

In the summer of 1990, Gaudet served as the assistant coach of the East Team in the Olympic Sports Festival, held in Minneapolis. In 1994, he served again as head coach of the East Team, and also coached the East All-Star Team in the East-West Shrine College Hockey Classic. Gaudet spent the summer of 1998 behind the bench of the New England Select 16-Team at USA Hockey’s Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Kelly is a senior at Hanover High School in 2012-13 where she is the starting goalie and co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team.

▶ EXTRA TIMEDartmouth is 0-1-4 in overtime games this season. Then-fifth-ranked Quinnipiac remains the only team to take down the Green in OT this year (3-2 – Jan. 4), while Yale, Cornell, Union and now Harvard have all skated to draws with the team from the Upper Valley. ▶ ON TVIn five televised games this season, Dartmouth is 1-1-3 following the tie at Harvard on Feb. 10.

▶ NHL UPDATE- Former Big Green defenseman Ben Lovejoy ’06 was traded from Pittsburgh to Anaheim last week in exchange for a 5th-Round Draft Pick in 2014. In his 101st career game played on Tuesday night, Lovejoy recorded his first two points with the Ducks, assisting on two goals against Chicago, including the game-tying marker that would eventually lead the team to a shootout win over the Blackhawks. - Calgary’s Lee Stempniak scored goals in consecutive road games at Columbus (Feb. 7) and Vancouver (Feb. 10) last week.- Monday, Feb. 11 set up for a match-up of Dartmouth alumni as the Colorado Avalanche and Phoenix Coyotes met in Denver. David Jones ’08 of the Avs played in the game, but former Big Green teammate Nick Johnson ’08 was a scratch and did not play for the Yotes. Johnson scored Feb. 2 against Dallas and has three goals and four points in eight games during his first season with the team.- TJ Galiardi ’10 has two assists in nine games this year with the San Jose Sharks.- In his first season with Pittsburgh, Tanner Glass ’07 has yet to register a point and ranks fifth on the team with 12 PIM. Of six former Big Green players currently in the NHL, Glass is the only one on an Eastern Conference team following Lovejoy’s trade.

▶ WHAT’S AHEAD?After playing host to Cornell and Colgate, Dartmouth will head out on the road for the final time in the 2012-13 regular season next weekend as it heads to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The Big Green split with the Saints and Golden Knights in January in Hanover.

▶ DON’T SEE THAT TOO OFTENThe 3-0 shutout loss at RPI marked the first time in 48 games that Dartmouth was held off the scoreboard in a game. The last time an opponent shut out the Green came back on Nov. 19, 2011 when Clarkson skated to a 4-0 home victory at Cheel Arena.

▶ LATE HELPRick Pinkston’s power-play goal with 4:55 left in the third period helped Dartmouth earn a point with the tie at Union. The late marker was nothing new to the team as they have scored 10

▶2012-13 RECORD WHEN...goals in the final six minutes of the third period this season. Of the team’s 22 total tallies in the final regulation period, 15 have come in the last 10 minutes.

▶ LONE TEAM TO DO IT TWICEAgainst Union, Dartmouth scored two times on the nation’s second-best penalty kill, becoming the only team in 2012-13 to find the back of the net twice in one game against the Dutchmen.

▶ AGAINST THE BESTUnion came into the game boasting the nation’s best power play (26.3%; 31-118), but was stymied by Dartmouth’s pesky PK unit. The home team finished 1-for-5 on the night, while the Big Green were 2-for-3 on their man-advantage situations. When facing off with the best power play this season at the time of the game, the penalty kill from Dartmouth is a combined 10-for-11 (90.9%) in two outings (Union, Bentley)

▶ CAREER DAYJunior Cab Morris turned aside a career-high 37 shots at Union in earning a 2-2 tie. The Dartmouth netminder’s previous best of 31 had been reached twice this season. Although he benefited from the five extra minutes of play, Morris had 34 stops through the end of regulation before making an additional three saves in OT.

▶ NEILEY NETTED ANOTHERSophomore Eric Neiley found the back of the net midway through the second period with a one-time blast from the left dot five seconds into a power play. This season, Neiley has five goals with the last three all coming on the road. Of his 12 career markers, seven have come away from Thompson Arena.

▶ HAD TO HAPPENWith the shutout loss, sophomore Tyler Sikura failed to register a point for just the third time in 22 games this season. An assist the night before at Union gave Sikura 26 points this year, one more than he had all of 2011-12 when he was tied for the team lead in scoring. His 26th point came in the Big Green’s 21st contest of the year, 11 fewer than he played his entire rookie campaign.

▶ AMERICA!Senior captain and defensive stalwart Mike Keenan has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the top American-born Division I player in New England. A native of South Weymouth, Mass., Keenan has been up for the honor in each of the last two seasons.

(Rankings Through Thursday, Feb. 14 and will change prior to Saturday’s game)

The PairWise Ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine par-ticipants for the NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament. The PWR compares Teams Under Consideration (TUC), those with a Ratings Per-centage Index (RPI) of .500 or more, judging them by four criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, record against other TUC if a team has played 10 or more games against TUC, and the RPI.
