As “Big Data” grows and begins to record every detail of our lives, the mathematic and scientific side of data combines with ancient mysticism to influence pattern and design. Data Divination finds inspiration from webs and concentric circles. Ancient materials mixed with contemporary finishes are also important. Key design features include interlocking weaves and honeycomb or hexagonal patterns. Fine engravings or laser-cutting are paired with cosmic inspired stars that will inspire finishes and patterns on multiple products. Mixed materials, colored marble, wicker, and slub raw silk are key for Data Divination products.

Social issues provide a starting point for designers as they become Social Superheroes. Using design, they encourage a positive sense of community and improve our lives by emphasizing ideas of security, open social systems, and a positive sense of community. Key design features include the use of up-cycled materials that show a patina of time and past use. Densely woven wools and protective cotton canvas creates a sense of security. Weathered glazes and matte finishes are key while braille like effects create dimension. Over-dyed textiles and graffiti-like patterns are important.

As an antidote to the hours spent online, we seek out doses of nature and paradise in the every day. We find escape and clarity in examples of both beautifully handcrafted objects and those that are exceptionally manufactured. There is balance between industrial and craft in designed objects that helps soothe and makes life easier. This is Everyday Utopias. Everyday Utopias celebrates ordinary beauty and puts the purity of material on a pedestal. We look to nature to escape and revitalize. A minimal aesthetic and objects that are paired back will be key. Saturated color and natural tactility will be driving design influences.
