Introduction 1Data Exploration is designed to connect your own local Tableau Desktop (ProfessionalEdition) installation with MindSphere.
Features of Data Exploration● Creation of customized visualizations to analyze the data collected in MindSphere

● Data driven business case modelling – Identify new opportunities for additional businessthrough the visualization of collected data
Use of Data Exploration and Visual ExplorerWithin MindSphere, there are two independant Tableau based offerings for datavisualization; Data Exploration and Visual Explorer:
Data Exploration
Data Exploration is designed to connect Tableau Desktop with MindSphere.
The offering from the MindSphere store includes:
● User interface to connect Tableau Desktop with MindSphere
● Data transfer from MindSphere to Tableau Desktop
Visual Explorer
Visual Explorer is designed to create Dashboards for internal use or distribution tocustomers.
The offering from the MindSphere store includes:
● Visual Explorer
● Visual Explorer Connector (synchronize data between MindSphere and Visual Explorer)
There are two different packages for different license types:
● Creator – create new Dashboards
● Viewer – use Dashboards as an App

Using "Data Exploration" 2This document shows you how to use Data Exploration by executing the following steps:
1. Connecting Tableau Desktop with MindSphere (Page 7)
2. Selecting Assets and Aspects (Page 8)
3. Selecting data transfer options (Page 9)
4. Visualizing data in Tableau Desktop (Page 11)
2.1 Step 1: Connecting Tableau Desktop with MindSphereTo connect Tableau Desktop with your MindSphere tenant, proceed as follows:
1. In User Management, assign the user role "mdsp:core:twdc.usage" to the users you wantto grant access to Data Exploration.

For more information on assigning user roles, see User Management documentation,chapter "Assigning roles to users"(https://documentation.mindsphere.io/resources/html/user-management/en-US/110533003659.html).
2. Start Tableau Desktop on your local PC.
3. Click on "Connect" > "To a Server/More..." > "Web Data Connector".
4. Enter the following address in the URL field: https://[TENANT]-twdc.eu1.mindsphere.io
Note
Replace "[TENANT]" with your tenant name.
Note
You can also copy the Web Data Connector address from the Tableau Webdata App onyour MindSphere Launchpad.
5. Press "Enter".
6. Enter your MindSphere login data and click on "Sign In".
Data Exploration starts automatically.
Next, you select the Assets and Aspects with the data you want to analyze.

2.2 Step 2: Selecting Assets and AspectsTo select the Assets and Aspects with the data you want to analyze, proceed as follows foreach Asset and Aspect:
1. If it is not already opened, click on the "Select your Assets" tab in Data Exploration.
2. Below "Asset Selection", click on the respective Asset.
Note
When you click on an Asset, the respective Aspect configuration is shown next to it.
3. Below "Aspect Selection", click on the next to the respective Aspect.
Note
When you have chosen an Aspect, a blue circle appears next to the respective Asset.
Data Exploration will create an optimized data scheme for your selected Assets and Aspectsto be analyzed in Tableau Desktop.

Next, you select the data transfer options for the data of the selected Assets and Aspects.
2.3 Step 3: Selecting data transfer optionsTo select the data transfer options for the data of the selected Assets and Aspects, proceedas follows:
1. Click on the "Preview & Import" tab in Data Exploration.
Note
In the preview window, you can view the data that you will work with in Tableau later on.
If you want to change the selection of Assets and Aspects, you can go back to the "Selectyour Assets" tab.
2. Click on "Time Period", select the start and end date for the data you want to analyze andconfirm with "Close".
3. Click on "Aggregation Method", choose and option and confirm with "Close".
Note
You can choose between raw values and aggregates.
When you choose an aggregate, you can also choose detailed data configurations out ofa list as shown on the user interface (e. g. "average").

4. At "View Schema", you can view the data fields and their data type.
5. Click on "Submit".
The data selection is sent to Tableau Desktop, where it is first depicted in a table.
Next, you can start creating your visual analysis in Tableau Desktop.
