EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT

The vast majority of residents have a high school

diploma (91.6 percent, versus 85.7 percent in the US)

A large share have college degrees (29.9 percent),

higher than in the US, (28.5 percent) but slightly lower

than in NH as a whole (33.4 percent).

Pre-school enrollment is right on par with national and

state levels.

MEASURES OF HEALTH CARE ACCESS

Of the ten counties: Carroll ranks eighth on its PCP ratio, seventh on its dentist ratio, and fifth on its mental health provider ratio.

The county is on-par with state levels of diabetic and mammography screenings, as well as for preventable hospital stays.

Median annual earnings for Carroll’s veterans are

$34,478, about 15 percent lower than the state

SENIORS’ INCOME AND EXPENSES

Of those aged 65 and older:

34 percent have income from earnings,

Among those earners, the average amount is $38,000

94 percent receive Social Security

The average amount of this Social Security in Carroll County is high ($18,145 versus $16,727 nationwide)

Carroll’s seniors have much-higher-than average rates of home ownership (89.5 percent, versus 79 percent in NH and nationally)

And 68 percent of seniors spend less than 30 percent of their income on housing costs, only true for less than half of seniors in NH and nationwide.

SENIORS’ WELL-BEING

Like our state as a whole:

About three in ten Carroll County seniors have a

disability (31 percent) Lower than the national rate of 37 percent

28 percent of Carroll’s seniors are veterans, versus 23

percent of seniors nationwide.

Seniors’ poverty rates are on par with state and national

levels, at 7.2 percent

Despite that senior poverty is statistically similar in

Carroll, NH, and the US, food stamp receipt is low

among Carroll’s seniors.
