PIXELWOOD For the Chaos Car, we took an old classic and reworked it with some innovative twists. A glimpse under the hood reveals a custom-made PCB board and other tech that, combined, causes competitors to eat our dust.

FREEWHEEL Freewheel is a fitness tracker for wheelchair users that incorporates various technologies to gather and translate data like altitude, incline and acceleration that can be used for fitness applications and—when aggregated—terrain mapping.

GIZMOSPHERE Enter the Gizmosphere”—a Horizon Interactive Award-winning project—tests players’ Pong prowess in a futuristic reincarnation of the classic game. Armed with LED paddles, competitors digitally duke it out with a virtual ball in a 90-second battle to the death (or something like that).

SMART CART For those who've gotten lost in the supermarket—or hate the hassle of pushing around a shopping cart with a bum wheel—we created Smarter Cart, which moves autonomously through the store, navigating its user through the aisles to find every item on their grocery list.

ORCHARD GENSLER For SXSW 2015, we collaborated with Gensler to create a beautiful, awe-inspiring Austin installation: a 30-foot interactive "tree" that adapts to people and surroundings with light and sound.

BASE PROJECTSCUPID C.U.P.I.D is an autonomous drone equipped with the power to target and shoot a human with an electro conductive dart delivering 80,000 volts. This project was intended to start a conversation about technology and how it can be used for good and evil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E068FRGKYY

GIFFRAME We combined a microcomputer with a USB microphone and utilized natural voice-recognition software to convert words into GIFs, animating real-life conversations in real time and serving as completely responsive, interactive art.

BOARD OF IMAGINATION The Board of Imagination allows riders to channel their inner Tony Hawk—with little to no talent required. The motorized, mind-controlled skateboard is the closest thing we've got to a hoverboard…and, we imagine, just as fun.

THE SMARTEST SHOPPING CART A Kinect-controlled, motorized shopping cart that keeps track of shoppers and their lists. The cart recognizes a shopper, loads their grocery list, and then follows them around the store until every item has been added. Then, shoppers can check out instantly, without any need for a conveyor belt. Plus, the cart can provide help with finding items, recognizing food allergies, and pointing out items not on your list (come on now, put that pint of ice cream back). Chaotic Moon’s SmartestCart–another awesome BASE innovation– appeared in a segment on BBC’s Tomorrow’s Food 11/30/2015

UBIQUITY & TRUST

Page 14: Data Science Popup Austin: Ubiquity and Trust Lead to Adoption

Chaotic Moon Confidential

A UBIQUITOUS EXPERIENCE LEADS TO ADOPTION

• The System extends beyond structured data

• Think about how a users data needs move and change as they interact with the your system and the physical world around them

• Systems should be leaning towards the proactive side of the curve

• Provide the user data before they know they need it

• The data your systems collect is sacred

• Systems should be transparent to the user, show them what you collect, after all its their Quantified life

BUILDING A UBIQUITOUS EXPERIENCE

DISCOVERY & DESIGN Analysis of workflows and processes within the organization and the spaces that surround it. Identification of areas for implementation.

DATA COLLECTION & CURATION Analysis of available data, and creation of data collection/formatting tools for ingestion.

BUILD FOR REPEATABILITY Developers architect the system and incorporate SME knowledge to write rules and train the system.

DYNAMIC KNOWLEDGE MODEL Uncover changes that are necessary to maintain the accuracy of your data. Then, feed the data back into the system once it has been revised.

INTERACTION MEMORY Create a feedback mechanic that allows the system to learn from interacting with humans.

BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS Notice where humans disagree with the system. Record that interaction for future use and improved results. This data can also be used to determine where humans make incorrect choices to correct them.

ALL THE DATA MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT TRUST

• In this country almost all notions of data are skewed in favor of corporations. When was the last time google told you something about yourself from all the data they know about you?

• In order for a system to be truly helpful and ubiquitous it must know everything about you, your family, the technology you own and the things that you do. If things stay how they currently are it will never happen

• Data should be used for the good of the user
