Database on Newborn and Birth Defects web site.
Please follow below steps to access the website. For data elements level details please refer
the provided SOP.
Step 1: Open the website (http://apps.searo.who.int/npn) in browser.
Step 2: Login to the site with the given Email ID and its password. Click on Google / Facebook /
Yahoo Icon, provide the relevant Email/User ID and Password, and sign in. In case you want
associate Google / Facebook / Yahoo ID with this site, you may send request to
[email protected] for the same.
Please Note: If you are already logged in with different ID which is not mapped with this
site, you need to logout first from that and try login to this site.
Step 3: After successful login, Click on “Agree” button to allow the ID for the access of site.
Please note: This screen/agreement will appear once for first login of each email ID.

Step 4: After successful Login process, Search page will open. The page will show the existing
incomplete data by default. Click on ‘Go’ button to view all data (includes completed
forms). The completed records will be shown with icon. You can perform search on
existing data by entering Search Text. The entered search text will be matched partially or
fully with following fields:
• NNPD Number
• Mother Name.
• Baby Hospital Record Number
• Mother Hospital Record Number
• Baby birth date and time
• Baby Gender
• Form Type (NB/BD)
For Example:
Search Text “Jun-2014” will return all the records of your Health Center having Baby birth date in
June 2014.
Search Text “IND-AIIMS%Jun-2014%BD” will return records having ‘IND-AIIMS’ in NNPD Number,
‘Jun-2014’ in Date of birth and form type is ‘Birth Defects’.
Maximum 20 rows will be shown in page. You may click on page numbers available at bottom right
to view other records. You can click on Action buttons to view/edit existing records. Icon is for
“New Borns” and icon is for Birth defects forms. The records for which only Birth defects form is
filled, the new born icon will be disabled.
Step 5: New Born Form: Click on “New Born” Link from the Menu. The “New Born” form will open.
Click on “Inborn” or “Outborn” to open the complete form.

Step 6: As per the Selection in Step 5, the complete form will be loaded. The mandatory fields are
marked with red asterisks *. Health Center Name will appear automatically as per the Login
name. Provide the Baby’s and Mother Hospital Record Number. The NNPD Number will be
generated after the submission of the Form using following options:
• Save for Later: Saves the form without performing the validation check and saves it in
database. These records will not be used for reporting.
• Save & Submit: Saves the form after successful validation checks. The records will be
included in reporting.
• Save & Continue: Saves the form after successful validation checks and navigate to
Birth Defect form automatically. The records will be included in reporting.
Step 7: Birth Defect Form: Click on “Birth Defect” Link from the Menu. The form will open. The
mandatory fields are marked with red asterisks *. Health Center Name will appear
automatically as per the Login name. Provide the Baby’s and Mother Hospital Record
Number. The NNPD Number will be generated after the submission of the Form.
Step 8: Discharge Summary: It can be generated by clicking the PDF icon in Search results.

Step 9: After clicking the PDF icon, a form will open to collect the information about the discharge
summary. Provide the information and click on “Generate Discharge Summary” button.
The discharge summary in PDF format will be downloaded.
