Rewritable Technology

Rewriting is possible due to a special rewritable card stock that features a layer of heat-sensitive material which overlays a conventional PVC substrate.

Embedded within the heat-sensitive layer are unique dye and developer that chemically bond when heated to a specific temperature and rapidly cooled.


Rewritable Printing


Rewritable Printing Technology

• Printing is the function of the rewritable card and

printhead via heat

• The printer ribbon is removed for printing on the

rewritable card

• Other SP/CP series printers cannot be configured to

use rewritable cards by removing the ribbon

• Datacard offers rewritable cards

• Rewritable cards are more expensive initially, they

can be reused up to 500 times which will result in a

lower cost per card

DATACARD® SR200 / SR300

RETRANSFER PRINTERS


Retransfer printing uses a two-step process to provide

better image quality and durability than direct-to-card

print technology.

First, a dye sublimation printhead impresses a high-

resolution image onto a layer of retransfer film.

Next, the printer uses heat and pressure to transfer the

image to the card along with a clear protective layer.

• Retransfer printing allows issuers to print on a wider range of

heavy-duty and “greener” card substrates

• The print head never touches the card, significantly increasing

print head longevity

• The transfer film can be placed over virtually any type of card

surface, embedded with any kind of card technology

• Transfer film can be placed completely over the edge of the card.
