GE Infrastructure Security WaveReader software recognizes the unit to which it is connected and provides the user with full access to that unit’s features. Whether you’re viewing live video or playing back recorded video, the program enables video to be seen from full-screen to 64-way views. WaveReader can also be used to remotely control PTZ cameras. When connected to a unit, it’s easy to switch from viewing live images to playing recorded images. Search filters enable users to go to a specific date and time to begin playback. Additional searches can be conducted by specific time/date range, camera, alarm inputs, events, or combinations of all. WaveReader can also be used to remotely view live or recorded video while recording images to your local hard drive for quick access. It can also connect via telephone lines, but functionality is limited. GE Security digital video units are renowned for their extensive features and easily accessible controls. WaveReader software extends these benefits to any authorized user on the network or around the world. WaveReader 4.0 Remote digital video control software Features Full screen or multiscreen live viewing and playback modes Access DVMRe menu systems remotely and control PTZ cameras across the network Supports Wavelet and WaveJet™ compression standards Advanced search filters include alarm/event, text, camera, time, and date over multiple site locations Address book accommodates up to 10,000 sites with 18 data fields for recording Motion search filter permits search by camera (DVMRe Triplex) Advanced retail text searches View video over Ethernet directly using GE Security’s WaveReader software. Images recorded with WaveReader’s local record button arewatermarked to ensure the integrity of each recording. In additionto the watermarked format, each image can be saved in variousfile formats (for e-mailing or use in other software applications).

Images can be printed with WaveStudio (see right), the built-inenhancement program. Images associated with transaction textcan be printed with the text. WaveStudio also enables users toadjust each image’s contrast, intensity, hue, saturation, sharpness, and noise level. WaveStudio’s digital zoom provides magnifiedviews of selected areas.

Saving, Printing, and Enhancing Images

WaveReader provides severaloptions for searching video. TheDisk Analysis screen provides aneasy to interpret, graphicaloverview of the recorded harddisk, revealing when and whattype of video was recorded. Theconvenient color legend makes iteasy to determine which video toreview.

When the desired video isassociated with alarm events, motion activated events, orATM/POS transaction text, theEvent Search Filter screen enablesusers to perform more precisesearches according to time/date,camera, and event type (alarm, event, text).

The Triplex is available withMotion Search, which enables theuser to search recorded video forchanges in the camera’s field of

view, such as the removal of anitem or individuals going through aspecific, non-alarmed entry. Toactivate Motion Search, simplydefine the time/date, camera, andthe specific area of interest. TheWaveReader searches the Triplexand returns a list of matchingevents. Clicking on the desiredevent will initiate playback.

Video can also be searched byATM or retail POS transaction text, which is synchronized with thedisplayed video. Transaction text isdisplayed in a separate, resizablewindow-ensuring a clean, unobstructed image. The windowscrolls as new text is displayed.Because text is synchronized withthe displayed video, WaveReader’sImageLinks feature enables usersto select any line in the text displayand call up corresponding video.

Playback

Security is established by defining groups of users with specificprivileges. Security can be loose, with all users having full rights to allsites; or tight, with access and control limited by specific groups. Groupsprivileges include:

• Which sites a group has access to• Which cameras can be viewed by a group• Viewing live video, playback video, or both• PTZ camera control• Image quality control• Remotely configuring units within their group

Security Privileges

WaveReader offers controls that mirror a VCR, includingplay, reverse play, fast forward play, fast reverse play, frameadvance (forward and reverse), pause, and stop. Theprogram also offers screen display modes. The user canquickly move forward in the video file by moving theplayback position slider bar. A separate playback speedslider bar permits the user to slow down playback from thenormal real-time speed for better observation.

QuickWave is a special version of the WaveReader programthat enables the creation of an evidence CD that, wheninserted into a CD-ROM drive, automatically plays the video

saved on the CD without installing any software on theplayback PC. The images on the CD are in the originalwatermarked format. The user, with a QuickWave CD, cando the following:

• Select which video file on the CD to play

• Play images in the standard WaveReader playbackdisplay formats (single, multicamera, various sizes)

• Play images using the standard WaveReader VCRcontrols (all except playback speed control)

• Print the current image

System Administration

WaveReader provides a complete package of tools for managingWaveReader security (privileges to access sites). Authorized users canremotely configure GE Security digital video units, manage and displayan address book for multilocation users, and automatically verify properdigital system operation.

Address BookA powerful new address book supports up to 10,000 sites. The databaseincludes 18 data fields (including four notes fields) that can sort therecords by clicking on the desired column heading.

Remote Configuration

WaveReader’s Menu Setup security privileges allow users to remotelyview and change the system configuration of the digital video unitwithout going to the site. Typical menu functions include camera titles, recording rates, recording schedules, alarm input and relay outputbehavior, camera motion areas and sensitivity, and recorded imagequality. The available menu options will vary according to the type ofdigital video that is connected to WaveReader.

WaveWatch: Remote Verification

Included on the WaveReader CD is anindependent program called WaveWatch, whichverifies the operational condition of all thedigital video units in your system (network ordial up). WaveWatch can directly import yourexisting WaveReader address book, manually orautomatically connecting it to all of your sites. The program reports on the status of thefollowing conditions:

• Successful or unsuccessful connection • Current camera video loss status and any

video losses since last check• Unit checked • General unit information (version of software

in unit, hard disk size)• Unit’s recording status • Time synch• Current alarms and alarms since last check

The interval between automatic checks isprogrammable from 1 second to 24 hours. Theonscreen display shows the current pollingstatus by site (successful or unsuccessful). Fullstatus check details are available through thestatus check report, which can be previewed onscreen or printed. WaveWatch 4.0 supports allDVMRe units, including DVMRe Pro andStoreSafe models.
