Date Claimers Dear Parents
Welcome back to Term 4, lots of new and exciting
things are happening in our school this term, but
before we touch on them there are a couple of
things from the end of last term that need to be
mentioned.
Firstly, we are so proud of all our students who
represented our school in the local touch football
carnival held on the last Thursday of Term 3.
Spectacular results and the students’ feedback
about the day was brilliant.
Secondly a big congratulations to the School team
that travelled down to Brothers NRL fields to
compete in the Under 10’s NRL Blackhawks
Challenge on the last day of last term. The
behaviour of students in both the touch and
football teams was commendable, as was their
sportsmanship - they were all a credit to our
school.
So much happening over the next 2 weeks! Our
Year 6s have gone on school camp and their days
are full of great opportunities for them to enjoy
and have lots of new experiences. Swimming has
started we are very fortunate to have Sophie
Parker taking the swimming lessons as Helen
Hobbs is acting Principal at Mount Fox for the
next 3 weeks.
A big welcome back to the Ballin family. Steve will
continue with his role promoting student and
teacher welfare and positive behaviour program
but he will also be initially taking physical
education on a Monday. We are fortunate that we
will be able to have Linda Ballin taking dance
lessons as well this term.
Romanello Shield is taking place next Friday and
lots of students are really excited about displaying
their soccer prowess! There will be coaching for
teams over the next weeks.
Natalie Andersen and Colleen Way presented an
excellent PD for all of our staff yesterday
afternoon and evening it was based around One
Drive, One Note, Stop Motion and Green Screen.
We are constantly trying to improve our practice
by engaging all of our students and ensuring that
they will have the skills for careers of the 21st
century. While looking at technology as a tool we
are also scanning and analysing school
assessment, NAPLAN data and non-academic
data to have relevant school improvement
planning. If we really want planning to be
effective we need to have the whole school
community engaged in the development of our
improvement priorities. These are discussed at
P&C meetings and staff are very involved in the
scan of data and the consequent plan around
ensuring improvement. We then look at how
successful those plans prove to be. At the moment
members of our leadership team are conducting
an inquiry around our reading strategies including
Speech Sound Pics. We don’t look just at a
moment in time we look at patterns and consider
what processes and practice that are having
maximum impact and those do not appear to be
effective.
There will be training for volunteer parents and
carers this Friday at 1.00pm in the Resource
Centre (Library). This training is essential for
anyone who works in the school whether it be in
classrooms, tuckshop or at swimming lessons it
protects you as well as our children. For those
who cannot make it to this training please
contact me and we will negotiate an additional
time. If you have volunteered to help with
swimming though it is essential that you do this
Friday, otherwise you will not be able to work with
the classes until you have completed the training.
I continually try to vary the times so that the
maximum amount of parents are able to attend.

TALKING TUCKSHOP
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your break.
Breakfast Club took place yesterday. We are always in need of extra cream cheese, honey, jam, Vegemite and margarine. Any donations are always most appreciated. By the chatter taking place yesterday morning, I think everyone was pleased to be back at school with their friends.
Swimming has commenced for some classes this term. Just a reminder to pack a little extra lunch or afternoon tea in your student/s lunch box if they are swimming. One thing swimming seems to do is make everyone hungry!
As the weather heats up, lunch boxes become a big concern. All lunch boxes should have frozen bricks and drinks packed with lunches. One frozen item does not seem to be sufficient in hot weather. Ensure food and drinks are cold before placing in lunch boxes.
Lunch boxes need to be cleaned in warm soapy water and rinsed well at the end of each day.
Please pack spoons and forks in student lunch boxes if required. Otherwise they are able to be purchased from the Tuckshop.
Thank you for your co-operation.

U10 Blackhawks Challenge 2018
Keep an eye out for these budding footy stars in the future!!
On the last day of Term 3, we went to Townsville for the NRL
U10 Blackhawks Challenge. These boys played together as
a team for the first time with only 2 weeks of lunch time
trainings. For some boys, it was their first real taste of NRL
Footy. They played tough (with no reserves), supported each
other and displayed great team spirit and sportsmanship
towards the other teams and the refs. Although we didn’t
come away winners, and lost to Our Lady of Lourdes in a nail
biting grand final, we are extremely proud of these boys for
their commitment and conduct on and off the field. It was
great to see two Ingham teams in the grand final and we
congratulate Our Lady of Lourdes for their win.
Special thanks to coach, Mr Smith for his guidance and sup-
port and Miss Parker for the nomination! We would also like
to thank the parents for providing transport and traveling
down to support us! It was a great day!!
