Introduction

Access to dignified employment is everyone’s democratic right. The logical acquisition

of different skills empowers people to look for a decent job. Even those who lack

specialised skills are not completely left out. They too can still access some types of

employment. We must never see people remaining indolent for a long time while their

family suffers endlessly. They have to go out to look for an occupation that could help

them lessen financial pressure and sustain their families. Today it is undesirable to

find married men spending their valuable time in bed. When they disappear from

people they always go straight to their bed. When other men are busy working for their

families there are those who care little. They lack the ethical commitment to seek

proper occupation. Some expect their wives to feed their stomachs while they

themselves do nothing to contribute. When we use the words “nandi nyamuṱwawolala”

we want to shame those who sleep day and night because they are sluggish. When

they wake up they look for food that they did not work for. We therefore want to

challenge unproductive men to take off their jacket of laziness so that they can work

for their families. Real men are those who are willing to sweat for their families because

they know that nothing comes easy.

Problem Statement

Lack of employment opportunities. There are several countries where the

unemployment rate is intolerable. Several economies are not growing enough so as

to absorb more people into the employment market. High unemployment rates

therefore exist due to misunderstandings regarding who should actually boost

employment. We often see people putting more pressure on politicians to create jobs

for the unemployed. Sometimes we forget that those politicians have little muscle to

generate jobs on their own. Their roles should rather be to create an empowering

environment. The primary role of job creation should lie with entrepreneurs. As we

speak some politicians have an intention to create jobs but fail because they have no

direct entrepreneurial capacity to do so. Instead of allowing a pool of entrepreneurs to

be the main drivers behind decreasing high unemployment levels they often move

around telling people lies. They pretend that they are able to lessen unemployment.

They overlook that proper policies in place are conducive to the thrive of existing and

upcoming entrepreneurs. We therefore want to state that we must change the way

people think. At the heart of advancing high levels of employment should be the tried

and tested as well as emerging entrepreneurs. The role of public officials should be

that of support through appropriate regulations. But this is not happening. This is

especially the case in developing nations where some political leaders occupy office

to hoist bribery.

People who do not want to work. When they are offered employment opportunities to

gain relevant experience they refrain from embracing it with both hands. They become

hypercritical of certain occupations. We even find people who only start work for a

number of days before they withdraw. Some say that certain jobs are boring. Some

say that certain jobs are underpaying. Others say that certain jobs are not challenging.

Due to these reasons, such people then decide to rather stay at home. When better

employment opportunities arise, they are likely to miss out because they lack sufficient

working experience.

We therefore urge people to strive to do their best in their job, despite the fact that they

do not fully like some of the job responsibilities. The truth is that we must start from

the bottom until we make our mark. We cannot gain higher promotion without first

gaining grounds within a specific industry. Nevertheless, enduring within unattractive

employment can open many doors in the future. That is why we always encourage

people to take any occupation that can add more value into their career. On the other

hand, if they lay down their arms, they will only become disempowered to steadily

grow.

Roots of sleepiness

Laziness: Laziness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle man will suffer hunger

(Proverbs: 19:15). At the moment millions of people are unemployed. The state of

being unemployed is not due to the country’s economic slowdown. Some of these

people deliberately chose to stay away from employment because of their

sluggishness. Even when employment opportunities are presented to them on a platter

they turn them away. They would rather face hunger because they lack the courage

to sweat for their own stomach. Due to this, we often see families suffering because

the head of a household is not prepared to work. When others are out seeking

employment he would rather sleep. Laziness therefore dictates how certain people

respond with regard to embracing accessible employment prospects. Languid people

continue to suffer interminably because they do not want to be counted.

Joblessness: Lack of employment opportunities can force people to directly relieve

their frustration by sleeping. Some even cry in their sleep because they struggle to be

recognised. Though sleeping is usually preferred, it is far from being a long-term

solution. Instead of being job-seekers who hunt down employment opportunities they

become helpless. The moment they get out of their little beds they become unfriendly.

Some even hoist violent acts against their family members. This usually happens

because of frustration.

Job-seekers are therefore advised to avoid sleeping during daylight as a remedy for

not working. They must rather find something valuable that will add more value to their

lives while they wait for employment opportunities. To be unemployed should not

compel people to sleep like animals. Why? Animals sleep all the time. They even sleep

during the day. Wherever they see an opportunity to sleep after eating plenty of grass

they go and sleep.

Loneliness: Unemployed people may find themselves in an awkward position. If all

their friends are working somewhere they become traumatised. They become

enlivened when they hear that some of their friends are unemployed. In this way, they

get a chance to spend time with them. But not all people are surrounded by jobless

friends. We have instances where we find one or two people being unemployed. When

others are at work they typically become bored. From time to time this impels them to

sleep abnormally since they have nothing else to do. Some only wake up when their

friends return back from work. Because of their uneasiness we even see them waiting

for their employed friends at the bus stop. As a result, they only feel fulfilled during

weekends when those who work during the week can be with them. In summary,

loneliness plays a major role. When the unemployed are left alone at home they

usually become stranded. They only become inspired when those they can relate with

are around.

Hopelessness: Hopelessness to gain employment can easily be demonstrated by

prolonged sleeping. We see the unemployed sleeping beyond normal hours because

they have lost all hope for the future. At times, we see some waking up only to eat

before they go sleep again. In this manner, they literally become a burden too heavy

to carry for those who feed them. Why? Because they do not show any firm

commitment to find an occupation. As we speak, there are millions of hopeless people

all over the place. Because they have given up they continue to pay little attention to

new opportunities. Even when they have a chance of succeeding they do little since

they have already thrown in the towel. The sad thing however is that we also have

very young men and women who are surrendering prematurely. Despite their young

age they already declared themselves unfortunate in terms of gaining employment.

We therefore urge people (especially the youth) to have a never-die attitude. We would

like them to remain optimistic in knowing that God has not forgotten about them. Surely

there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18).

Social complications: Social ills such as hunger (among other things) can put a lot of

unremitting pressure on our people. Many people remain trapped due to a bleak social

environment. When such ills are not fading away it can severely traumatise them.

Every so often we see people who sleep all the time because social discriminations

are penetrating. Sleeping makes them to be in full peace with the reality. The moment

they wake up from the grave the same challenges still haunt them. Therefore the

creation of sufficient work opportunities can significantly reduce high levels of

unemployment; poverty and inequalities. Failure to address these social evils will

persistently place our people in a very tight corner. We will continue to see the

standard of living dwindling at an unbearable scale.

Tiredness: His watchmen are blind, all of them know nothing. All of them are mute

dogs unable to bark, dreamers lying down, who love to slumber (Isaiah 56:10).

Tiredness frequently forces people to rest. As mentioned before, we every so often

see the unemployed sleeping endlessly. Though they physically execute nothing they

get tired psychologically. Their tiredness can also victimise those we leave at home.

When we are busy at work they get tired because of overstressing their thoughts. The

state of their minds compels them to sleep despite them not accomplishing anything.

We often hear people complaining about being exhausted even though they did not

undertake any work. These people actually sleep more than those who work never-

endingly. The habit of sleeping as a result of mental weariness therefore continues to

haunt many.

Even women must work

When we talk about people who should work we are not only pondering about men.

Modern society has been transformed to the extent that even women have to come

into the picture. The days are gone where women were seen as slaves who only got

married to give birth to children. Today, modern society expects them to be at the

forefront of advancing development. Therefore we challenge women to reject any

advice that tells them that they should always beg. We expect women to be leaders

who advance their nations and their families. In this way, we will persist to see women

being empowered at all levels. The days of wanting their husbands to provide for them

must be forgotten. Now it is the time to change tradition because it is no longer

business as usual. Even conservative men must accept this change as part of being

inclusive.

Job-seekers are stuck especially in floundering economies

The leadership vacuum has primarily been a cause of concern in unfastening growth

and development in emerging markets. Lack of sustainable development often leads

to escalating figures of unemployment. We have seen political leaders failing to work

constructively with the business community. Instead of enforcing industrious

collaboration some public leaders choose to intensify acts of poor governance and

corruption. This is usually done on a large scale --- to the extent that it directly

demoralises incorruptible entrepreneurs. We say so because some shady

entrepreneurs become part and parcel of looting groups. They normally establish

unholy alliances with the intention of gaining an unfair advantage over others. As a

result, they are no longer helping the course. The whole slogan of crafting a conductive

entrepreneurial environment therefore simply becomes just a pipe dream. With regard

to this, there is a lot to address on the African continent. Political networks are

prevalently consolidated to capture resources. There is no openness in terms of

allowing capable entrepreneurs to shine. As a result, it is rare to find participants who

do not practice acts of injustice. This is because the entire system has been completely

withered. Accordingly, a high unemployment level also has to do with lack of investors’

confidence.

Electing leaders who will create a positive climate

In this day and time it is important to empower political leaders who will fight tooth and

nail to eradicate high unemployment levels. The first step towards achieving this is to

collapse the corrupt systems established by those who worked hard for their own

stomachs. While it is important to state that political leaders have a role to play in

levelling the playing field, we anticipate them to play it fairly. But if corrupt leaders are

endorsed we will continue to cry. The most corrupt leaders rise to higher office with

the smaller skeletons following them. The moment we empower them to transparently

lead us we must know that we are simply inviting trouble. They will distract all good

systems in favour of those that are easy to manipulate. As we speak, corrupt leaders

have done a lot of damage to the ability of good entrepreneurs to create jobs. Those

entrepreneurs who survive are those who are corrupt. When they are seeking

government assistance corrupt practices become their ticket. Unless we change for

the better those leaders we choose while closing our eyes they will continue to haunt

us for many years. Now, more than ever before is the right time to think about what is

best for the poor. Because it is very difficult to remove a corrupt person once he or she

occupies a top position. Those who are corrupt to the core are likely to defend him or

her with their lives. Instead of fighting for the jobless they will rather fight tooth and nail

for the corrupt.

The experience of The Most High

When The Most High experienced abnormal sleep was when his small business

struggled to get off the ground. He was faced with major marketing glitches after

realising that the whole construction market was tarnished with massive corruption.

This was the right time for him to learn the hard way. Due to inactiveness he was

without choice forced to sleep during the day as a way to forget what was happening.

Despite the humdrum sleep the problems never faded away. Today many people are

facing similar ordeals. Because they have no internal knowledge about the industry

they operate they might open a business without knowing how they will survive. The

Most High learned the hard way until he adjusted according to the prevailing market

conditions. He ended up doing things he never thought he would. Therefore, we want

to advise those who haven’t open their businesses yet to take their time before

abandoning their employment. They usually think that their new businesses would

automatically thrive but it is much easier said than done. These days there are much

evil around us. There are several impediments people have to overcome first before

seeing any positive developments. If they do not want to go through deep waters they

have to stay where they are. There are many risks attached to opening a new

business. Without proper calculation regarding their emerging businesses people are

unable to progress. Nevertheless, sleep is the only thing that can obscure tantalising

challenges.

Conclusion

We all have rights to stable employment opportunities. It is crucial to sanction a friendly

environment to strengthen high employment levels. The disappointing trends of

employment must always be reduced through appropriate interventions. The

enforcement of friendly policies and regulations to boost massive economic growth

and development has a direct influence in bolstering growth and housing to those who

so desperately seek employment. Across the world, countries who have established

good economic policies are earning the rewards. The figures of unemployment are

relatively low. Therefore the ailing economies that still fall behind can benchmark from

others. Using the experience of advanced economies is highly recommended to

address the problems of unemployment, poverty and inequality.

High levels of unemployment in certain parts of the world are amplified when leaders

who serve themselves are embraced. The moment they grab the power they usually

collapse principled systems in favour of corrupt ones. As soon as that happens the

prevailing environment is no longer conducive for ethical entrepreneurs to do business

as usual. In some cases, existing and emerging businesses close due to a tarnished

business environment. The direct impact would mean that more people become

jobless. Therefore it is not a surprise to see several economies remaining stagnant for

years. Some of these economies face recession on a yearly basis because those who

should be creating an optimistic business climate do exactly the opposite. Therefore,

we will always see slight progress especially where we push forward political leaders

who think about their stomachs ahead of those they should serve. In the end, there

are many examples of political leaders who have taken a central stage. It is more about

them looting while the masses of our people remain sluggish. We say so because

political leaders have the power to assassinate the spirit of emerging business people.

The moment they start to establish corrupt relationships with their allies, those who

are left in the cold become unlikely to thrive.

Although we often face underperforming economies that fail to absorb people into the

employment market we also find those who simply remain sluggish to work for their

families. When they are given opportunities they usually turn them down because they

feel they want to be treated specially. They want special jobs because they claim to

be very special. They will often say that certain jobs are not suitable for them. A lot

can be said in this regard. Due to their unwillingness to gain experience in certain

fields they remain valueless. Because they do not want to invest in themselves they

lack wisdom and courage. When ample new employment opportunities arise they are

unlikely to be included because they lack much-needed experience. We therefore urge

people to never turn down employment that intends to sharpen them. The more they

stay in that job the more they will be opening doors that no man can shut. But useless

and cowardly people have no bravery to fight for their lives. The only thing they can

do is to sleep and then eat and sleep again as if they are animals.

We want to salute those people who never run away from employment. Even when

they earn less they will still endure pain because they have to fight for their families.

We often see these people seeking employment. They do not stay idle while blaming

others. For them it is their responsibility to find work so that they could bring something

to the table. Also, we want to salute the employers who recruit and retain their workers.

Even when their businesses are not doing that well they do not jump the gun and

simply cut down their workforce. Though they do business for profit they still know that

they have a social responsibility to reduce the high levels of unemployment; poverty

and inequality. We challenge all businesses to defend their employees at all cost. They

must not be quick to relinquish or retrench our people from their employment by

providing ludicrous executes. We expect them to play a fair game so that workers will

always be sheltered.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule. If a man will not work, he shall not

eat (Thessalonians 3:10).
