We have also seen a huge improvement in our students’ behaviour, particularly with regard to physical incidents. Our students are trying very hard to ‘Walk Away’ instead of retaliating. This can certainly take a lot of courage to do and our students should be commended on their efforts. Well done Kenilworth students! Each and every one of you are contributing to the calm and caring culture we are building here at school. The students should also be commended on their efforts with their end of semester assessment tasks over the past few weeks. I have enjoyed seeing some of the finished products – artwork, stories, experiments and presentations. Special mention has to go to the Year 2/3 superheroes – the swimsuits you designed and created were fantastic! I have also had the pleasure of reading through student report card comments. Our students have achieved so much over this semester and it was wonderful to read all the positive comments. Each student at Kenilworth should be proud of the progress they have made. Special thanks to the parents for supporting your children’s learning at school through home reading, homework, encouragement and some days, just managing to get them dressed, fed and out the door! When we all work together the students always benefit. This week, we will be saying farewell Gwen in the office. She has done a great job in the office this term and her warm welcome in the morning to staff, students and parents will be missed. Gwen will be returning to Eumundi State School where she will be working in the library. We wish you all the very best Gwen! Make sure you pop in and say goodbye to her this week. Kylie will be returning to the office in Term 3. Next term is shaping up to be an exciting one. We have school photos coming up, Athletics, our Brisbane school camp and Oz Tag for our 3-6 students. The first day of school is Monday 11 th July. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday break. I am looking forward to seeing you all after the holidays for another great term of learning. As always, if you have any queries, questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me either in the office, on the phone or via email. News from the Classroom

Yr P/1

The children in Prep / One have been learning about money. We have been identifying the features on coins, comparing their value and learning how to count groups of money. As an extension of our learning we have created a small shop. The children are having a great time making price tags, writing shopping lists and purchasing items from the shop. We wish you all a restful and safe holiday and look forward to an exciting Term 3.

Mrs Allison Nudd & Kellie Scott

Yr 2/3

Wow! What a busy term it has been. Class 2-3 “superheroes” have worked really hard this term and they deserve pats on the back for trying and doing their best. The children did a fantastic job with their Science and Technology project. They planned their design, enjoyed making the swimsuits for their toy, and tested their swimsuit to see if the materials they selected were water resistant and strong.

In Math, students have enjoyed practising their number facts through playing games and working in small groups. Thank you all for your support throughout this busy term and another “thank you” to those parent helpers that were able to come in to assist with our Literacy Rotations. It is greatly appreciated and the students love seeing helpers in the classroom. I hope you all have a relaxing holiday and recharge for term 3.

Keep Smiling Keelee Bosworth

4/5/6

The year 4,5,6 class have been working with Mrs Deb Price on team building activities. These activities are an extension of our Health unit and our excursion to Ewen Maddock Dam. The activities are being held over three sessions on a Monday. The purpose of the lessons are:

1. For students to reflect on how they felt and how others in the group felt when doing a variety of activities. 2. For students to reflect on how they communicate and relate to others (when waiting a turn, listening to others, following

directions, speaking up and contributing ideas, etc) 3. For students to recognise their strengths and weaknesses in regards to working alongside of others and/or completing

team tasks. 4. For students to recognise whether they work best on their own, in pairs or in larger groups.

Throughout each lesson, we encourage students to focus on their own strengths and weaknesses when participating in the various activities. Also, we encourage them to try to relate their choice of behaviours to their own personal needs in regards to whether they have a strong need for love and belonging, for empowerment, freedom or fun. This program will continue after the school holidays on Mondays. Have a fantastic holiday and see you ready to learn in Term 3!

Mrs. Maguire & Mrs. Shaw

Fundraising

Don’t forget to let Katherine Kennedy-White or Carly Scott know if you are available to help for Election Day stall at the hall on Saturday July 2nd. We need some of our students in uniform, parents to help serve and bakers to donate baked goods for us to sell.

Don’t forget you can do your baking or drop off goods to sell at the school on Friday 1st July from 10am in the Home Economics

Kitchen.

Apologies for the incorrect date on the flyer sent home on Tuesday.

Learning Support in Term 3

Mrs Shaw will be taking on the full time teaching of Year 4/5/6 in Term 3. Mrs Maguire will be taking on student support, including learning support and supporting our students with disabilities. We are trialing this teaching model over the term and are hoping that the year 4/5/6 students will benefit from the added consistency and by providing learning support each day rather than 3 days per

week, we will be able to increase the support our students receive. Both Mrs Maguire and Mrs Shaw are excited to take on their new roles.

Chappy’s Corner

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I would like to reflect on a long but fruitful term. The students have had many events from volleyball and soccer gala days, cross country, pyjama days and an excursion to Ewan Maddock Dam. I think that the students and staff have earned a well deserved break. I would like to thank all of the students who have taken home ‘Barnaby the Bee’. I have had a number of pictures, stories etc. that are on my “Barnaby” board, in my room. Our latest recipient of Barnaby even made some accessories for him to use. Thank you Summer. I hope that you all have a blessed holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again next term. Blessings, Chappy Tress
