Descrizione
Gli Sprinkler automatici RD022/ RD023/ RD024/ RD025 sono Upright/
Pendent, a risposta Standard/Rapida Con Bulbo di Vetro frangibile.
Sono marcati CE, approvati LPCB, FM e VdS, e inoltre listati UL, orifi zio
standard per l’installazione in impianti di spegnimento automatico
sprinkler. Sono progettati in rispetto delle norme NFPA13 e della UNI EN
12845 o altre autorità competenti.
Gli Sprinkler Upright producono un getto d’acqua di forma semisferica al
disotto del defl ettore. In una condizione di fuoco, la temperature provoca
l’espansione del fl uido contenuto nel bulbo che, rompendo il vetro,
permette l’espulsione del tappo con molla. L’acqua defl uisce dall’orifi zio
dello sprinkler e sbatte contro il defl ettore, il quale distribuisce l’acqua
controllando o spegnendo il fuoco.

Installazione
1. Tutti gli sprinklers devono essere installati e manutenuti in rispetto di
questo documento e in rispetto delle norme di installazione UNI EN
12845 e o NFPA13, oppure normative e richieste locali che devono
essere specifi cate dalle autorità competenti.
2. Per assicurare che il fl usso minimo richiesto sia rispettato, le tubazioni
dell’impianto devono essere opportunamente dimensionate.
3. Per evitare qualsiasi danno meccanico, gli sprinkler devono essere
installati quando le tubazioni sono posate. Qualsiasi sprinkler
danneggiato deve essere sostituito. In caso di perdite dal fi letto degli
sprinkler, rimuovere lo sprinkler e applicare nuovo sigillante prima di
re-installarlo.
4. Verifi care sempre che gli sprinkler siano corretti nel modello, tipo,
dimensione orifi zio, temperatura e sensibilità del bulbo, prima di
cominciare l’installazione.
5. Gli sprinkler upright devono essere installati rivolti in alto mentre quelli
pendent devono essere rivolti in basso.
6. per sigillare le connessioni utilizzare soltanto sostanze non indurenti
oppure nastro in Tefl on. Applicare soltanto sui fi letti esterni.
7. Avvitare lo sprinkler manualmente e poi stringere con la apposite
chiave per sprinkler (Series 20 – vedi Figura C) per terminare il
serraggio nel raccordo. Assicurarsi che la chiave dello sprinkler
rimanga in posizione durante l’avvitamento. Una connessione a
perfetta tenuta richiede soltanto da 9.5 a 19 Nm (7 a 14 ft.lbs.) di
coppia di serraggio. Una forza pari a 6.35 fi no a 12.7kgs. (14 to 28
lbs.) applicata su un braccio da 150mm (6”) darà la coppia adeguata.
Livelli di coppia superiori a 29Nm (21 ft.lbs.) potrebbero rovinare il
sigillo dell’orifi zio causando perdite di acqua.
8. Rimuovere il guscio in plastica di protezione del bulbo, prima di
mettere in servizio l’impianto.
Cura e Manutenzione
Gli sprinklers devono essere maneggiati e stoccati con cura dove le
temperature non superino I 38°C/100ºF e non devono mai essere
verniciati rivestiti, placcati o modifi cati in altro modo quando escono dalla
fabbrica.
Mai installare sprinkler che sono caduti o sono stati danneggiati in
qualsiasi modo.
Le istruzioni di installazione delle normative richieste dalla Autorità
competente, contengono linee guida e tempistiche relative alla
manutenzione, per assistere la proprietà a rispettare le proprie
responsabilità nell’assicurare che gli sprinklers e i sistemi sprinkler siano
manutenuti in modo da garantirne la perfetta effi cienza.
Garanzia
Il periodo si garanzia è di un anno dalla data della spedizione dalla
fabbrica. Per i dettagli riferirsi alla condizioni generali di vendita.
Ordering Information
Specifi care il modello, il diametro dell’orifi cio, la temperatura, il tipo di
risposta, la fi nitura e l’approvazione richiesta. Ordinare sempre la chiave
per sprinkler serie 20, per una opportuna installazione.

Descrizione
Gli Sprinkler automatici RD042/RD043 SSP e RD044/RD045 SSU, a
risposta Standard/Rapida con Bulbo di Vetro frangibile. Sono marcati
CE, approvati LPCB, FM e VdS, e inoltre listati UL, orifi zio largo per

Product Description
RD052/RD053 SSP and RD054/RD055 SSU are Standard/Quick
Response frangible glass bulb automatic sprinklers. They are FM
approved and UL listed, standard orifi cefi resprinklers for installation in fi e
sprinkler systems. Sprinklers produce a hemispherical water distribution
pattern below the defl ector. In a fi recondition the heat causes the
fl uidin the glass bulb to expand which shatters the glass and releases
the spring seal assembly. Water fl owsfrom the orifi ceonto the sprinkler
defl ectorwhich diffuses the water into a uniform spray pattern which
extinguishes or controls the fi re.

Installation
1. All sprinklers must be installed and maintained in compliance with this
document and according to the installation standards or local rules and
requirements which are specifi edby the authority having jurisdiction.
It is the installer’s responsibility to conform to such standards and
requirements, deviations from the requirements will void any warranty.
2. To ensure that the minimum fl ow requirement is met, the system piping
must be correctly sized.
3. To avoid mechanical damage the sprinklers must be installed after the
piping is in place. Any damaged sprinklers must be replaced. If there is
a leak from the sprinkler thread, remove the sprinkler, apply new pipe
joint compound or tape and re-install.
4. Always check that the sprinklers are the correct model, style,
orifi ce size, temperature and sensitivity ratings prior to commencing
installation.
5. Upright sprinklers must be mounted in upright position and Pendent
sprinklers must be mounted in pendent position.
6. Use only non-hardening pipe joint compound or PTFE tape. Apply to
external threads only.
7. Hand tighten the sprinkler into the fi tting, then use the correct sprinkler
wrench to tighten the sprinkler into the fi tting. Ensure that the sprinkler
wrench stays on the wrench fl ats while tightening the sprinkler. A leak
tight joint requires only 10 to 19 Nm (7 to 14 ft.lbs.) torque. i.e. a
tangential force of 6.35 to 12.7kgs. (14 to 28 lbs.) delivered through

Product Description
RD060/RD061 HSW are Standard/Quick Response frangible glass bulb
automatic sprinklers. They are CE Marked, LPCB, VdS, FM approved,
UL listed, standard orifi ce fi resprinklers for installation in fi resprinkler
systems. In a fi re condition the heat causes the fl uidin the glass bulb to
expand which shatters the glass and releases the spring seal assembly.
Water fl ows from the orifi ce onto the sprinkler defl ector which diffuses
the water into a uniform spray pattern in order to control the fi re.
Sidewall Sprinklers are designed for installation along a wall or side of a
beam beneath a smooth ceiling.

Design Coverage
For sprinkler coverage area and placement refer to NFPA 13, EN12845
or CEA4001 standards or other Installation rules for automatic sprinkler
systems as required by the authority having jurisdiction. The following
details are provided for information only.
Installation
RD060 & RD061 Sprinklers are designed to be installed only in the
horizontal position with the defl ector parallel to the ceiling. Theengraved
word TOP on the defl ector must be facing towards theceiling.
1. All Rapidrop sprinklers must be installed and maintained in compliance
with this document and according to the installation standards,
or local rules and requirements which are specifi edby the authority
having jurisdiction. It is the installer’s responsibility to conform to such
standards and requirements, deviations from the requirements will
void any warranty.
2. To ensure that the minimum fl owrequirement is met, the system piping
must be correctly sized.
3. To avoid mechanical damage the sprinklers must be installed after the
piping is in place. Any damaged sprinklers must be replaced. If there is
a leak from the sprinkler thread, remove the sprinkler, apply new pipe
joint compound or tape and re-install.
4. Always check that the sprinklers are the correct model, style,
orifi cesize, temperature and sensitivity ratings prior to commencing
installation.
5. Use only non-hardening pipe joint compound or PTFE tape. Apply to
external threads only.
6. Hand tighten the sprinkler into the fi tting, then use the correct sprinkler
wrench to tighten the sprinkler into the fi tting. Ensure that the sprinkler
wrench stays on the wrench fl atswhile tightening the sprinkler. A leak
tight joint requires only 10 to 19 Nm (7 to 14 ft.lbs.) torque. i.e. a
tangential force of 6.35 to 12.7kgs. (14 to 28 lbs.) delivered through
a 150mm (6”) handle will deliver adequate torque. Torque levels over
29 Nm (21 ft.lbs.) may distort the orifi ceseal and result in a leakage.

General Description
The Model RD107 Commercial Flat Concealed
Sprinklers are automatic sprinklers of the
compressed fusible solder type. These are
decorative and fast response. The frame of
the sprinkler hides the defl ector, gasket, etc.,
which is in turn concealed above the ceiling by
the cover plate assembly. The cover plate has
a fl at profi le,and its diameter is extremely small.
The push-on/thread-on, thread-off design of
the concealed cover plate assembly allows
easy installation of the cover plate. Therefore,
the Model RD107 should be your fi rst choice
when aesthetics is the major consideration for
ultimate appeal and unbeatable performance
is desired.They are to be used in wet pipe
sprinkler systems per EN12845 or as required
by the Authority Having Jurisdiction. The Model
RD107 has a 80(5.6) K-factor. For extended
installation fl exibility, the Model RD107
provides 9.0mm (3/8 inch) vertical adjustment.
This adjustment in installation decreases the
need for precise cutting of the pipe that drops
to the sprinkler and allows for a perfect fi twith
a range of pipe lengths. The heat sensitivity
and water distribution design of Model RD107
allows for an increased chance of occupants’
escape or evacuation in case of fi re. However,
fi re sprinkler systems are not a substitute for
fi re safety awareness or fi re safety construction
required by building codes.
Warnings
The Model RD107 must be installed and maintained in accordance
with the rules stated herein as well as in compliance with the applicable
standards of the National Fire Protection Association regulations and
the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. In the event of
this condition, consult the Authorities Having Jurisdiction for guidance
and approval. Failure to do so may impair the integrity of these devices.
It is the responsibility of the installing contractor to provide a copy
of this document to the owner or his representative, and in turn, it is
the obligation of the owner to provide a copy of this document to a
succeeding owner. The owner is responsible for maintaining their
fi reprotection system and devices in proper operating condition. The
installing contractor or sprinkler manufacturer should be contacted with
any related questions.

OperationIn case of fi re,the solder component that holds
together the Cover Plate and the Retainer melts
and as a result the Cover Plate is released.
The two Heat Collectors are exposed and
when suffi cient heat from the fi re is recorded,
internal components of the sprinkler separate.
This leads to the dropping of the Defl ector
into its operating position, allowing the water
discharge to be distributed over the fi re. (Ref.
Figure 2)
Design CriteriaThe Model RD107 sprinklers are quick
response / standard coverage for use in
accordance with EN12845 or other rules of the
Authority Having Jurisdiction. The installation
instructions of the Model RD107 provided by
the manufacturer / supplier must be strictly
implemented for safe and full results.
NotesFire Sprinkler Systems should only be
designed and installed by individuals who are
completely familiar with automatic sprinkler
system design, installation procedures, and
techniques. Several criteria may apply to
the installation and usage of each sprinkler.
Consequently, it is recommended that the
sprinkler system designer review and develop
a working understanding of the complete
list of criteria prior to initiating the design of
the sprinkler system. Questions concerning
sprinkler installation and usage criteria, which
are not covered by the following instructions,
should be submitted. Include sketches and
technical details as appropriate.In some
instances, the requirements of this document
may concern specifi cations which are more
stringent and which take precedence over
those specifi edin NFPA 13 or by the Authority
Having Jurisdiction. The Model RD107 must
not be used in applications where the air
pressure above the ceiling is greater than
that below.The spray from the sprinkler is
distributed radically outward and downward
from the sprinkler defl ector. Consequently,
the sprinklers must be located such that there
will be no blind spaces shielded from spray by
partitions, room dividers, overhangs or other
parts of the dwelling structure. The number
of sprinklers within each compartment (as
defi ned by NFPA 13) must be kept as small
as possible. Do NOT use more sprinklers than
necessary to cover a particular space. Use
only the Cover Plate provided with the Model
RD107. The sprinkler must be secured in
place by fi rmly fastening the sprinkler system
piping to the structure. If the sprinkler is not
properly secured in position, reaction forces
resulting from sprinkler operation could
alter its orientation and its water distribution
pattern.
Obstruction to Water Distribution
Locations of sprinklers must follow the
obstruction rules of NFPA 13.
General Service Conditions
The Model RD107 must only be utilized in WET
PIPE sprinkler systems per NFPA 13 or other
rules of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Operational Sensitivity Criteria
For proper operational sensitivity, the Model
RD107 must be installed beneath a solid
ceiling having a smooth or textured surface.
Heat Source Criteria
Refer to NFPA 13 for the requirements relating
to the prevention of possible activation of the
Heat Responsive Element of Model RD107,
due to exposure to a heat sources other than
an actual fi re.
Precautionary Warnings for Corrosive
Environments
The Model RD107 should not be installed
where they may be subjected to a corrosive
environment including the following:
1) Chlorine ion and Chloride
environment
Stress corrosion cracking may be caused by
exposure to environments with Chlorine ion
and Chloride. Exposure to this environment
may result in sprinklers operating under
Non-Fire conditions or Not Operating when
exposed to an actual fi re.
2) Sprinkler system piping with
Copper
Sprinkler systems should be constructed in
compliance with the applicable standards
and the requirements for the copper piping
when copper piping is used in the sprinkler
system. (Reference standards NFPA 13,
ASTM B813, B828, and CDA (Copper
Development Association) – Solder Joint)
All residual fl ux must be removed from the
interior and exterior of copper piping by
thoroughly fl ushing before installation of the
Sprinkler Heads. Otherwise, residues of fl ux
may cause corrosion and leakage in the
sprinkler system.

InstallationThe Model RD107 must be installed in
accordance with the following instructions.
NotesDo not use any sprinklers which have been
subjected to potential mechanical damage.
Do not use any sprinklers which show
deformation or cracking in either the Sprinkler
or the Protective Cap. Prior to installation,
sprinklers should be maintained in the original
cartons and packaging until used to minimize
the potential for damage to sprinklers that
would cause improper operation or non-
operation. The Protective Cap must remain on
the sprinkler during installation and until the
ceiling installation is completed. The Protective
Cap must be removed to place the sprinkler in
service.Use a torque of 7 to 14 ft.lbs (9.5 to
19.0Nm) to achieve a 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler
joint. A maximum of 21 ft.lbs. (28.5 Nm) of
torque is to be used to install sprinklers. If you
exceed the recommended maximum torque,
this could result in damage to the sprinkler
inlet, which may lead to leakage from the
sprinkler. In case of insuffi cient adjustment in
Cover Plate installation, do not try to overly
tighten, screw the sprinkler too loosely or
make any modifi cation to the cover plate
assembly. Readjust the sprinkler fi tting for a
better fi t.
Installing Procedure
Step 1
The installation requirements for the sprinkler
are as follows: to be installed only in the pendent
position with the waterway perpendicular to
the ceiling. Install the sprinkler fi tting so that
the distance from the face of the fi tting to the
mounting surface will be nominally 1- 7/8 inch
(47.6 mm) as shown in Figure 3.
Step 2
With pipe thread sealant applied to the threads,
hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler
fi tting. Then tighten it with the Sprinkler Socket
or Wrench & Socket Combination (Ref. Figure
4). The grooves of the Socket must fi t perfectly
with the grooves on the Sprinkler for proper
installation (Ref. Figure 4).
Step 3
If desired the Protective Cap may also be used
to locate the centre of the clearance hole by
gently pushing the ceiling material against
the centre point of the Protective Cap. Before
the installation of the ceiling, the sprinkler
installation can be started with the 2 inch
(50mm) diameter clearance hole (Ref. Figure
3). Use the “Tolerance Limit of Ceiling Level”
indicator on the Protective Cap to check for
proper installation height (Ref. Figure 3).
Step 4
Use the Protective Cap Removal Tool to
remove the Protective Cap (Ref. Figure 5) and
then push/screw a Cover Plate Assembly on
the Frame of the Sprinkler by hand until its
fl ange just comes in contact with the ceiling
(Ref. Figure 6 and Figure 7). Stop tightening
the Cover Plate Assembly once the fl ange has
come in contact with the ceiling. If the ceiling
has been lifted from its normal position in
the process of tightening of the Cover Plate
Assembly, readjust the cover plate assembly
as necessary. If the fl ange of the Cover Plate
Assembly cannot come in contact with the
ceiling suffi ciently, readjust the sprinkler
fi ttingas necessary. When properly installed,
there is a nominal 1/8 inch (3.2mm) air gap
between the lip of the Cover Plate and the
ceiling, as shown in Figure 6

Care and MaintenanceThe following instructions must be implemented
for the maintenance and service of the Model
RD107.
NotesWet pipe sprinkler systems must be maintained
at a minimum temperature of 40°F/4°C to
prevent freezing and bursting of the pipe and/
or sprinklers. Automatic sprinklers are not to
be tested with a heat source. Operation of the
heat responsive element can result.Absence
of a Cover Plate Assembly may delay the
response time of the sprinkler in case of fi re.
Install the cover plate assembly properly, as
shown in Figure 6. Improper installation of the
cover plate assembly may cause improper
operation or non-operation. If the ceiling is
to be repainted after the installation of the
Sprinkler, care must be exercised to ensure
that the new paint does not seal off any of the
air gap. Factory painted Cover Plates must
not be repainted. They should be replaced,
if necessary, by factory painted cover plates.
Non-factory applied paint may adversely delay
or prevent sprinkler operation in case of a fi re.
Do not pull the Cover Plate. Separation may
result. In preparation for maintenance of the
fi re protection system, permission to close
the main control valve must be obtained from
the proper authorities and all affected by this
action parties must be informed before the
maintenance session can commence. Do NOT
enclose any sprinklers within drapes, curtains,
or valances. Do NOT hang anything from
the sprinklers. Do NOT clean the sprinklers
with soap and water, detergents, ammonia,
cleaning fl uids,or other chemicals. Remove
dust, lint, cobwebs, cocoons, insects, and
larvae by gently brushing with a feather duster
or gently vacuuming with a soft bristle (i.e.,
dusting) brush attachment.

Notes ContinuedExercise suitable safety precautions in the use
and storage of highly fl ammable materials. The
rapid rate of fi re development and spread of these
materials can reduce the ability of the sprinkler
systems to aid in the control of a fi re involving
such hazards. Leaking or corroded sprinklers
must be replaced. Automatic Sprinklers
must never be shipped or stored where the
temperature exceeds 100°F/38°C. Automatic
sprinkler must never be physically altered, such
as painted, plated, or coated, once shipped
from the factory. If the sprinklers have been in
any way modifi ed, they must be replaced. Great
caution must be applied to prevent damage to
the sprinklers at all stages - before, during, and
after installation. Damaged units, as a result of
dropping, hitting, over-tightening, or wrench
slippage, must be replaced. When remodeling,
such as by adding false beams or light fi xture
or changing the location of compartment
walls, fi rst verity that the new construction will
not violate the installation requirements of the
applicable standards of NFPA. Alter the new
construction and/or the sprinkler system to
suit the requirements of this document and
the applicable NFPA regulations. The owner is
responsible for the maintenance of the sprinkler
system, including inspection and testing, its
compliance with this documents, as well as
the standards of the National Fire Protection
Association (e.g., NFPA 25), and the regulations
of any other authorities having jurisdiction. The
owner should direct any questions regarding

General lnstructions
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if the bulb is cracked or is a loss
of liquid from the bulb. With the sprinkler held horizontally, a small air
bubble should be present. The diameter of the air bubble is approximately
1,6mm for the 57° to 2,4mm far the 182° temperature ratings. A leak-
tight ¾” NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a minimum to
maximum torque of 10 to 14 Nm. Higher levels of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet and cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler.
lnstallation lnstruction
- Sprinkler may only installed by trained personal.
- lnstall sprinklers only with the special wrench foreseen far each sprinkler
type.
- lnstall sprinklers only in fully installed and fi xed pipe work.
- The threads (fi tting / socket) must be clean, free of grease and burrs.
Never install a sprinkler that has had their packaging damaged.
Never install a sprinkler that has been dropped or has suffered any
impact.
Always to align sprinklers turn clockwise only. Alignment on the opposite
side can create leakage.
Warning
- Sprinklers containing in the original packing have been manufactured
and tested according the requirements of the sprinkler authorities.
- Any modifi cation to the sprinkler in the form of painting, warp of
defl ector, will seriously affect the operation. This will lead to withdraw of
insurances approval and any guarantee.
- Sprinklers (brass and chrome plated) may only install in normal
atmosphere. For areas with aggressive, corrosive atmosphere or in
case of leakage current, use sprinklers with special coating or stainless
steel sprinklers.

Description
The Eurofi re sprinkler series offers high quality, European manufactured,
modern compact design, that meet the rigid test requirements set out
by the world leading approval authorities. The unique PTFE / double
groove seal in combination with high end heat responsive frangible glass
bulbs guarantee durable operation and reliable performance. The use
of precisely CNC-machined hot forged frames eliminates the risk of
porosity.
All manufacturing and testing processes are performed strictly in
compliance with our quality management system, certifi ed to ISO
9001:2008.
“WWHEC” sprinklers are manufactured in brass, fi tted with a stainless
steel defl ector, and available with QR-bulbs having release temperatures
of 57°C, 68°C and 79°C. GW “WWHEC” sprinklers are approved by
LPCB (UK) and VdS (Germany).
Application
WWHEC Quick Response sprinklers are used in fi xed fi re protection
systems. The WWHEC sprinkler is a special application sprinkler with
an extended coverage for protection of light hazard risks, such as
hotel rooms. Care must be exercised that RTI, orifi ce size, temperature
rating, defl ector style and sprinkler type is in accordance with the latest
published standards i.e. EN12845, CEA4001 or NFPA13.

Note:
Not all bulb temperatures and material options are approved by all
authorities. Please consult MEFA Italia for specifi c
Finishes available include chrome plated, electro nickel plated, white
painted (to RAL 9010). Custom coloured paint fi nishes are also available

The sprinkler range is complemented by a unique range of installation
effi cient colour matching single and recessed two piece rosettes
(escutcheons) and by other accessories such as guards, water shields
and spanners.

Installation
Install WWHEC type sprinklers in the horizontal
position. Horizontal distance between
WWHEC sprinklers shall be 3 - 4,5 m
Modern sprinklers incorporate highly sensitive
and fragile glass bulbs and the utmost care
must be taken during handling and installation
not to damage the glass bulb in any way!
Never install sprinklers that have been
dropped, damaged or fully or partly lacks glass
bulb fl uid.
Install only sprinklers in pipework that is in
place to prevent mechanical damage of the
sprinklers.
Use only Eurofi re sprinkler wrench or box-
spanner. Recommended torque to obtain leak
tight joint: 10–20 Nm.
Brass sprinklers should only be installed in
non-corrosive environments and environments
free of ammonia, chloride vapors and cleaning
solutions. Install sprinklers according to latest
edition of relevant sprinkler system design
codes – e.g. EN 12845, CEA 4001 or NFPA
13.
It is essential that the WWHEC sprinkler is
always installed so that the axis and defl ector
are truly horizontal, in order to ensure correct
spray distribution. This should be checked by
using a spirit level on a 15mm (½” BSP) length
of temporary pipe, hand tightened in to the
sprinkler female fi tting of the pipework.

Installation Rule Essentials (Cea 4001)
WWHEC sprinklers may be used for light hazard risks in rooms with a
fl oor area of up to 126 m2 bounded by partitions with a fi re resistance
rating of 30 min, and a maximum height of 4.1 m
The protected area per sprinkler shall not exceed 21 m². The sprinkler
shall not be more than 6.5 m from the opposite wall. In rooms more than
6.5m wide up to a maximum of 11m in width, sprinklers shall be installed
off-set on two opposite walls.
The sprinkler shall not project more than 300 mm from the wall. The
distance between any two WWHEC sprinklers shall be between 3m and
4.5m along the same wall, unless sprinkler shields are used. The distance
to the ceiling shall be between 100mm and 250mm. The sprinkler shall
be located at least 0.5m from the corner of the room. Minimum water
pressure at sprinklers installed in maximum room sizes shall be 2.5 bar in
rooms with ceiling height up to 2.8m, otherwise min. 3 bar (max. ceiling
height is 4.1m).

Maintenance
The sprinkler system should be inspected and maintained according to
e.g. NFPA 25.
Sprinkler heads should be inspected on an annular basis. Ensure that
the sprinklers are not used for hanging any objects, and do not show
signs of leakage or corrosion. Sprinklers found to be painted, coated or
otherwise altered after leaving the factory must be replaced. Also replace
any sprinkler that has a cracked bulb or has lost liquid from its bulb.
Dusty sprinklers can be gently cleaned using a feather duster – or similar
gentle method/tool.
Automatic sprinklers are recommended to be inspected, tested and
maintained by a qualifi ed Inspection Service in accordance with local
requirements and/or national codes.
Sprinklers are supplied in special purpose built Styrofoam boxes for
maximum protection – and spare sprinklers should always be stored /
kept in the original packaging until installation.

The Lofl ow K15 Sprinkler series contain fi ne water spray sprinklers (water mist) with automatic
quick response for fi xed fi re protection of on-shore, Maritime and offshore applications.
The sprinkler heads are installed in fully hydraulic designed wet pipe sprinkler systems.

Tankool Nozzle
The Tankcool nozzle is designed primarily for protection and cooling of
fuel storage tank walls.
Where possible, nozzles should be connected to the top of water lines,
with the nozzles upright. The placement of nozzles surrounding process
equipment is an essential feature of a water spray system.
The nozzle confi guration should direct water spray onto all exposed
surfaces of the equipment to absorb heat from the fi re and keep the
equipment at a safe temperature.
The right is reserved to vary or modify any specifi cations without prior notice.
Dry areas occurring because of incomplete nozzle coverage can result in
the development of “hot spots”.
Overheating of metal at hot spots reduces metal strength which might
cause a pressurized vessel or pipeline to rupture, or a structure to
collapse.
For system design guidance refer to e.g. NFPA 15 (National Fire
Protection Association) or API (American Petroleum Institute).

Thermospray Medium Velocity Nozzle
General description
The Thermospray medium velocity nozzle is designed for directional
spray applications in fi xed water spray (deluge) systems. The angle of
the external defl ector determines the direction and shape of the water
spray, consisting of low to medium velocity droplets.
The Thermospray nozzle is available in a variety of K-factors and materials
to meet most land based and off shore design application requirements.
Also available with protective plating – e.g. ENP (electroless nickel
plating). Consult MEFA Italia for available options.
The Thermospray nozzle is effective in covering exposed vertical,
horizontal and irregular shaped surfaces in a cooling water spray to
prevent excessive absorption of heat from an external fi re, protecting
e.g. structural steel constructions from damage and preventing potential
collapse. In some applications the Thermospray nozzle may also be used
for fi re control and extinguishment, depending on water density design
requirements.
System design and installation
The Thermospray nozzle is designed to be installed in accordance with
recognized installation standards, e.g. the latest published standards
of NFPA, FM Global, LPCB, VdS or similar organisations. If in doubt –
consult the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) prior to system design
and installation.
The system design of water spray fi xed systems should only be performed
by experienced designers who thoroughly understand the capabilities
and limitations of such systems and their individual components.
Deviations from the standards – or any alteration to the nozzle after it
leaves the factory including, but not limited to: painting, plating, coating,
or modifi cation may render the product inoperative and will automatically
nullify the approval and any guarantee made.
1. Handle the Thermospray nozzle with care, and store it dry in its original
shipping container. Never install a water spray nozzle that has been
dropped or damaged. Never re-install previously installed nozzles.
2. Corrosion resistant nozzles must be installed when subject to corrosive
atmospheres.
3. Nozzles must be installed after the piping is in place, to prevent
mechanical damage.
4. Before installation, make sure that appropriate nozzle model and style,
with correct K-factor, spray angle and material is selected for the job.
a. Apply a small amount of pipe joint compound or tape to the
external threads of the nozzle, taking care not to allow a
build-up of compound inside the inlet.
b. Hand-tighten the nozzle into the fi tting. Do not use the
defl ector to start or thread the nozzle into a fi tting.
c. Use a suitable wrench to fi nally install and tighten the nozzle,
applying a min. to max. torque of 9,5 to 19 Nm. Higher
levels of torque can distort the nozzle inlet with consequent
impairment of the nozzle.

Inspection, test and maintenance
The owner is responsible for maintaining the fi re protection system in
proper operating condition. For minimum maintenance and inspection
requirements, refer to relevant standards – e.g. NFPA 25, that describes
maintenance and inspection of sprinkler / water spray systems. In
addition the AHJ may have additional maintenance, testing and
inspection requirements that must be followed.
1. Spray nozzles must be inspected on a regular basis for corrosion,
mechanical damage, obstructions (plugging of water way), paint, etc.
The frequency of inspections may vary due to corrosive atmospheres,
water supplies and activity around the nozzles.
2. Spray nozzles that have been painted or mechanically damaged must
be replaced immediately. Nozzles showing signs of corrosion shall be
tested for proper operation, and/or replaced immediately as required.
Care must be taken to ensure that the replacement nozzle has the
proper model, style and K-factor. A cabinet should be provided and
stocked with a suitable wrench and extra spray nozzles of each variety
used for replacement purposes.
3. The spray nozzle discharge pattern is critical for proper fi re protection.
Hence, nothing should be hung from, attached to, or otherwise
obstruct the discharge pattern. All obstructions must be immediately
removed or, if necessary, additional nozzles installed.
4. Fire protection systems that have been subject to a fi re must be
returned to service as soon as possible. The entire system must be
inspected for damage and repaired or replaced as necessary. Spray
nozzles that have been exposed to corrosive products of combustion
or high ambient temperatures, should be replaced.

FYRHED High Velocity Water Spray Nozzle
General description
The Fyrhed high velocity nozzle is designed for directional spray
applications in fi xed water spray (deluge) systems.
The Fyrhed nozzle produces a soild, uniform and highly robust cone of high
velocity water spray, generated as the pressurized water passes through the
internal swirl plate, rotating/spinning the water jet as it exits the nozzle orifi ce.
The Fyrhed nozzle is available in a variety of K-factors and materials
(see page 4), to meet most land based and off-shore design application
requirements. Also available with protective plating – e.g. ENP (electroless
nickel plating). Consult MEFA Italia for available options.
The Fyrhed nozzle is effective in covering exposed vertical, horizontal and
irregular shaped surfaces in a cooling water spray to prevent excessive
absorption of heat from an external fi re, protecting e.g. structural steel
constructions from damage and preventing potential collapse.
Typical applications are special hazards, such as:
• oil fi lled transformers
• circuit breakers / switch gear
• diesel engines
• storage tanks
• fl ammable liquid storage areas/buildings
• conveyor systems
• petroleum and chemical processing equipment
• lube oil systems
• oil fi re boilers
• air craft carriers
In some applications the Fyrhed nozzle may also be used for fi re control
and extinguishment of oil fi res, as the high velocity spray can penetrate
the fi re plume and reach the surface of the burning media with high
impact energy – thus effectively controlling/extinguishing the fi re by the
effects of emulsifi cation, cooling and smothering.
Strainer
In compliance with FM requirements all Fyrhed nozzles are fi tted with an
integral inlet strainer to protect internal waterways smaller than Ø5mm
diameter from clogging.

Sprinkler Guard & Shield
Product Description
Sprinkler Guard with Shield is recommended for sprinklers installed in
areas exposed to high level of mechanical activities, in multilevel fi re
protection systems to ensure proper operation of lower level sprinklers.
The guard encases the sprinkler to protect it from physical damage and
the shield provides protection for the heat responsive element of the
sprinkler from direct spray of water from the neighbouring sprinkler or
from the run-off water from the sprinkler installed above, both of which
could delay or prevent the sprinkler from operation. Rapidrop Sprinkler
Guard with Shield is for use with upright sprinklers.

• Install the sprinkler, refer to appropriate installation instructions.
• Slide the Locking Ring towards the baffl e plate
• Spread 2 halves of the guard apart and carefully slide the guard onto
the sprinkler. Make sure the base plate of the guard slots into the
groove above sprinkler thread.
• Slide the Locking Ring onto the guard until it locks in position.

Sprinkler Guard and Sprinkler Shield FM
Product Description
Sprinkler Guard encases the sprinkler to protect it from physical

Sprinkler Spares Cabinets
Product Description
Sprinkler cabinets are designed to store spare sprinklers and a sprinkler
wrench. Appropriate authorities having jurisdiction specify minimum
number of emergency sprinklers that need to be kept on site. This
allows for an immediate replacement of damaged sprinkler or sprinkler
that have operated. Sprinklers kept in the cabinet should be identical
(type, orifi ce,temperature rating) as sprinklers installed in the sprinkler
system.
